Dallas Cowboys Winners & Losers vs. Rams + What needs to change next week… w/@Footsdaking

Yo, what’s going on guys? It’s your boy Foots and Zack on the screen. As promised, we are going to be doing a recap after every game. We’re starting with the preseason. Quick housekeeping note, next week I’ll be out of town, so the recap you’ll see. I’ll be I’ll have some nice weather behind me. I have this old goofy mic ready to rock, Zack. But we’re still going to stay consistent with our recaps. Zack, how you doing, bro? I’m good. I’m good. Uh, you know, excited for football to start back and then, you know, reality set in a little bit. Reality set in, but I’m good. I’m doing good. I’m excited. Let’s jump right into it, Zach. Uh, we were talking pre-show and obviously the Cowboys just played the Rams and they scrimmaged the Rams earlier and the whole bit, but let’s start with the amount of people that didn’t play tonight. Um, I know I had a problem with that. People are going to say, “F, you’re nitpicky.” I’m just going to speak for myself and I want your thoughts. I didn’t like it. I think this is one of Shotti’s though it may be small. I kind of think it’s a misstep here. Um Tyler Booker should have played. I don’t think there’s any excuse for a lineman who needs to be physical who if you don’t play him in this game, you’re not going to play him in the last preseason game. Maybe the next preseason game, Zach. But you want his first live work to be against a Philly Dline that gets after it. They’re going to, I’m pretty sure, get Jaylen Carter matched up with Booker at times. So, I didn’t like that. I didn’t like um I I just didn’t agree with that many starters not playing. I’m 100% with you. I thought I thought BB should have played too, at least for a little bit. Like there were guys that weren’t even dressed like I mean they there was no chance they were going to play and I think I can’t remember I think it was Todd Archer posted the tweet of like these guys aren’t playing and the list goes on and it was just all 240 characters taken because there wasn’t might have been one two maybe guys that are going to play significant. They even sat Ka Elum and I get that he’s had a good camp that he’s done some good things here and there, but like those dudes need to play, you know, like you said, new scheme offens offensively and defensively. So, yeah, maybe we’ll see some more next week. You know, you don’t really want to play them in the third preseason game and we were talking about this pre-show as well. Jamar Chase, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes was out there. So, it’s like I don’t see a reason. I get you’re scared of injuries, but there’s 17 games in a season. These guys got to stay healthy regardless. So, just to see him out there and get get, you know, one or two drives, I think, would be good. Let le let’s talk about the bad, Zach. And let’s get right into it. Um I like to, you know, the good, bad, and the ugly. Well, we’re going to go the bad, the good, and the thoughts. Um to me, we’ll jump right into it. I thought it was a mixed bag from Joe Milton. I I saw people kind of taking a victory lap either one way or the other. Oh, Joe Milton can’t play. I told you guys to relax on Joe blah blah. Then it was like, you know, he had obviously had the overthrow to Foi. That was bad. Like that was like the the touch in the red zone could have been better. Stuff like that. I also did not think the offensive line played well at all. Like awesome. Richards, I don’t even know if I’m in on him anymore. Just like what are we doing? You’re not lining up correctly. took away points I feel like because Phil Mafa, we’ll get to him. Had a good game. Uh, Zack, he had a really good game. I thought that um, you know, the defense was just okay. We’ll talk about some good on the defense, but I thought those those were that was the headlining piece of it to me. Joe Milton could have been better. Now, he did throw a touchdown or Yeah, he threw or had a touchdown. Y um, did he throw a touchdown? Yeah, exactly. He threw one. Yeah. Um and actually ended up going out with some type of a shoulder deal. Um he was grabbing at it up at that. Yeah, he was grabb Yeah, grabbing it and then Will Greer comes and throws the interception. But what did you think about Joe? I I don’t think it was the worst I’ve ever seen. No. And honestly, people were saying like, I think this is worse than Trey Lance last year. With with Milton, though, it’s like that was the player he was coming out of Tennessee. Like he was an up and down guy. But I think early in the game he got rattled with the play calling. It was they come out with three passes. I’m pretty sure like it was like five or six in a row and you know get the run game going a little bit settle him down you know but and people are going to say oh well it’s a vanilla offense and this and that and Shotty has said that. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen that comment but it’s like you to to evaluate your receivers you got to give something to the offense if if it’s so vanilla that the it literally cannot operate. I don’t know how you’re facilitating anything. He was up and down. The accuracy was was off. Um I thought he was holding the ball just a tick long in the pocket. But we saw the arm talent. That’s no problem, dude. He was rolling left and threw it 60 yards off of still rolling left like never squared his shoulders up or anything. So that’s there. And then some of the bad was just I I thought Jaytoya got pushed around. I think he was in there earlier in the game. Now I’m gonna go back and watch the all 22 in the morning. I think he was in there earlier in the game and then he didn’t play for a little bit and he got put in at the end as well. I just don’t think Dallas has figured out figured out what they’re going to do on the interior. Like Perion Winfrey, I thought he looked good and maybe we’ll talk about him, but with Mazy and Toa, I’m not sure Dallas has a legit one tech on this team and early on and late in the game, they were getting gashed. Yeah. On the ground. And that’s double teams. If you look at the clear difference in the staff and the philosophy now, obviously Shawn McVey wasn’t calling this game, but his staff, right? Let’s get Stson Bon in there, let’s run the ball, let’s settle him down, then let’s build play action. Dallas was doing stupid stuff like calling play action. They had never ran the ball. Like, it’s little things like that. I I I I do not understand why head coaches call an actual play action and they haven’t established any run game. Then they’re they’re going back to shotgun run. Now I know why you do that because you have the RPO option of Joe Milton keeping it. But I just don’t think it’s a downhill physical run. It doesn’t set that physical tone that the Cowboys said that they wanted to be. Again, this is not me and Zach panicking in any way. This is not but these are observations that it’s like okay and again none of the really starters played but even the backups especially on the offensive line Zach it was just very uninspiring to me and I feel like that’s a lot of pre preseason play for a lot of different teams like it’s hard to find five good offensive linemen so when you start dipping into you know eight nine 10 11 it starts getting really rough out there you’re not going to really be able to facilitate your offense with those guys either. I got to mention this. You mentioned Austin Richards. I think he lined up off sides or lined up off the ball completely wrong two times in a row, not just one. Two. I just thought that was funny. That was funny. The the right tackle, whoever was playing it at the time because it was Lyall Collins got some burn there. Um the rookie got some they were getting beat. I mean, there was a few players I’m like, this could have been a holding call. So, that’s the bad. We don’t want to be negative nasty. Let’s get to the good. I thought for my money I don’t even know why Maris Leafoul played more than the first uh series. Like that was nuts the way he was flying around making plays clearly moving at a faster speed, better speed than anybody on the field. And I thought that Phil Mafa played good. I thought Phil Mafa to me showed his weight and go in the NFL. Physical. every time you get hands on him or you touch him, it’s going to be a car crash. And I just I just liked his vibe. I you know, with Deuce, I don’t know if Deuce is ever going to get going. Malik Davis has some nice runs, but I don’t know if we’ll ever get Deuce Von going going. And I just I like Phil Maf. Who’ you like tonight, Zack? I’m with you on Maris. Uh they had him running down on special teams I think like the third drive of the game and I’m like, what is he do? Get him off the field. get him off the field. He was between the offense and defense the first two or three drives that he played, he was the best player on the field. He’s playing at a different speed. He looked completely different. And that is a guy that we’re talking about that is going to make a difference in 2025. Like he’s going to get legitimate burn in the regular season with Phil Mafa. I’m with you on him, too. Like he just looked different. He’s 230 pounds and he moves really well. And every single time someone tackles him, it he’s punishing and I think he could be that short yardage back. I think he had one opportunity on the goal line if I remember correctly. I think he slipped, but he could be that short yardage guy. He, you know, didn’t put the ball on the ground, looked good, had a little bit of burst to him. I thought he was the best back. Malik Davis as well. Lastly, Israel Aquamo had the interception. I feel like every single time Izzy’s on the field, he makes a play. He might give up a play, but he makes a play. It’s happened ever since he got on. He got drafted in 2021. Every every year somebody tweeted there’s uh the preseason can officially start. Israu has an interception. Like that’s just how it feels. I you know that’s a guy that could play the nickel. I want to see him play. I want to see him play. So I was happy for him. Yeah. No, I mean listen, Zach, I I think you hit those names on the head. And what I wanted to ask you was, okay, this next preseason game, I’m looking for Joe to settle down. I’m looking for these other receivers to get going. I thought Fenoi did a good job of getting open. Just him and Joe weren’t on the same page. But what are you going to be looking for in the next preseason game? I know it’s just early, but just give me one thing. Is it, okay, Shotty, just settle the game down. Let’s get some runs called, stuff like that. What What are you looking for in this next game? So, this is Shotti’s first head coach gig ever. He has never had to go through a training camp, go through preseason games, and get to the regular season. I think he’s going to figure it out a little bit more. I mean, he’s been the offensive coordinator. He’s kind of seen how other coaches do. He’s trying to find his own groove on how how to get to the season healthy, but also get these guys to where they’re ready for the season. Maybe a little bit of an overreaction sitting everybody early on. Maybe next week we see Shotti kind of get the starters in there for a drive or two, get the the energy up a little bit and then Joe get in the game and like you said, hopefully a more settled down Joe. But I’m looking for Shottenheimimer to have a plan in week two. What are you doing to get ready for the season, but also keeping guys healthy and just putting it all together and and getting the vibes up for week two? Getting the vibes up is key. And I love our vibes, Zach. And I think that if you guys stay with us, you guys will get the vibes. So, keep this in mind. All right. This is We’re still in preseason, too. Right, Zach? Yeah. Um, we’re going to be doing recaps after every game. Um, and we’ll actually be going live, so we’ll give you guys we’ll try to get to like an hour. Just depends on the game or like like I know week two, we have a one:00 game, so we’ll be able to give you guys more of our time. Week one may be tough because again, it’s Thursday night. The game will probably be over what? At midnight, Zack, maybe one o’clock. You never know. And so, that may be tough. I may be on the like this. So, um, but you guys, thank you for trusting us. Um, thank you for rocking with us. And this is kind of like the preview of it. And again, it’s preseason. Don’t jump off the bridge. Don’t, you know, the Cowboys are going to go zero and 16. No, it’s preseason. They didn’t play anybody and they did keep it vanilla. We just want to see things a little bit different. Yeah. And there’s nothing wrong with critiquing here and there. Like, we’re all Cowboys fans here. Everybody sits at their TV and yells at it. But if you’re a real diehard, it really is hard to not watch the preeason and internally start freaking out. Like I know how that feels, you know, but yeah, it’s preseason. We just sharing we’re just sharing our thoughts. We want to see every guy out there. We want to see the Cowboys score 100. So yeah, that is what it is. We want to see all our Hey, Tra Holding had a nice catch up this team. Like you said, we we want to see all our guys make play. So it’s your boy Fister King.
