Autographed baseballs were given out to paying customers as they entered Dodger Stadium. In the bottom of the seventh inning, spectators threw their baseballs onto the field, interrupting the game. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Dodgers first baseman Eric Karros was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Dodgers batter Raúl Mondesí took a pitch, and thinking he had ball four, started going to first base when umpire Jim Quick called it a strike. His next pitch was outside, but Quick called it strike two. Mondesí then decided to swing, resulting in his third strike. Mondesí then argued with Quick, and Quick responded by throwing him out of the game. Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda then tried to tell Quick about the player ejections, but he also got tossed. The spectators then protested by throwing their baseballs onto the field, and the players headed to the dugout. The field was then cleaned up, but when the Cardinals returned to the field, another baseball landed onto the field, causing umpire Bob Davidson to forfeit the game to the Cardinals (who were not doing well that season). The final score was 1-2, and at the time, the game was the most recent forfeit since Disco Demolition Night. The MLB then decided that in future promotional giveaways of baseballs or any other throwable object, they would be given out as spectators exited the stadium.

Those called strikes were pretty far off the plate lmao.
Imagine being so pissed off that you throw an autographed baseball away to protest a call.
Either that, or it was autographed by some random guy. Or the ushers.
Craiggers!
Everyone looks roided out.
Is that last sentence accurate? I went to Busch III during its inaugural season for a game against the Rockies where they gave us commemorative baseballs at entrance (I still have it too).

Do you think MLB would ever allow a forfeit today?
Didn’t JD Drew get pummeled in the OF in the late 90s one time or did that I imagine that?
