Michael Irvin on Dallas Cowboys Preseason Opener vs Rams

Hey, what’s up locker room? I am back home now. I left the casino. Had a great time. Great time at that appearance, but I’m home after church. Just want to talk about that game right quick before I go get on the airplane and head to LA for the premiere of the documentary. But let me tell you guys about yesterday when the Rams beat the Cowboys 31-21 in the first preseason game. and we’ll do a lot of commentary on it and everybody will because that’s all we’re waiting on. We’re waiting on information to try to determine a situation. That’s what analyzations are. That’s what analyzation is. That’s what I do. I get information. I get and I determine a situation by seeing what’s happening, drawing on my experience and knowledge about things and then try to assess things as we move forward. Let me tell you something just just for me. Just for me, guys, especially now, I’m going to say this and then we’ll talk about things for a minute. I throw You got to throw out the first preseason game. It it’s it’s no bearing of anything, you know, because now nobody gets to work and the work is all so is so shifted. Used it used to be everybody went into camp, they were already in great shape. You got in shape to go to camp because we were going to be hitting in camp. Now these guys, they go to camp to get in shape. That first game is literally nothing. I saw guys huffing and puffing, you know, trying to breathe out there. So, it’s hard to get a determining factor on talent when it’s so scattered on conditioning all across the NFL because it’s just the first game, you know, and and and these guys don’t work like Jimmy worked us. So they don’t, you know, they work themselves into shape over the preseason. So I threw out the first game, but it’s still knowledge. It’s still information that you have to take in. Like like we know right now what we saw yesterday is okay, those weren’t the main players that were going to be on the field on Sunday. But what we did see was some passes being given up on the secondary and some time being given to the quarterback of the Rams and then those plays being made up the field bums away and some sense. Okay, I take that stuff because that wasn’t that wasn’t Matthew Stafford, Devonte Adams, and Puka Lua. You had their second and third guys, and and they got our second and third guys, and they were running right by those guys. So, yeah. Yeah. And I understand. That’s what I’m saying. This is what I’m saying. You going against a guy like Shawn McVey, who’s a just a brilliant guy. I expected this defense to to not be ready for this brilliant guy even in the preeason and the way he called plays. I expected them not to be ready. So So that’s not a big thing for me to see that. But it is a prelude to what could happen if those two dudes don’t be on the football field. The two dudes I’m talking about is Trayvon Diggs and Michael Parsons. We got it in a preseason game, but I want you to extrapolate in your mind. That’s what it’s going to be like in a regular season game if you don’t got Michael Parson to get to the quarterback or Trayvon Diggs to knock to uh to get to the wide receiver and knock down that football. I’m just letting you know that’s that that’s what I’m taking from that game yesterday. It’s all you can take because he’s a brilliant play caller and it was Shotti’s first game. I wanted I know I’m sure you worried about the logistics of everything, managing everything and and yeah, it wasn’t game plan for game plan. So, we could throw that out. Now, the second game I think gives me more information because okay, you you you should be getting in a better situation, a better play, better especially even if the backups the Rams backups look good. They were playing hard. So, you know, this Yeah, this this will be interesting to watch. It’s going to be interesting to watch. I can’t wait to see the second game. I’m not I’m not going into Milton or I’m not bothering Milton. The only thing I said said about Joe Milton is man the dude he has he’s athletic, very athletic. But one time, man, he kind of lowered his shoulder. Dude, you you can’t be doing that. You know, if they’re going to decide and try to develop you, they’re not just talking about developing shoulders down and your ability to throw a football or run a football. They got to develop your shoulders up. And you got to understand, you’re the quarterback. You’re the quarterback. You’re not a fullback. You don’t get in a muncho battle with people and try to run them over with your right shoulder. That’s your money maker. you know, you don’t you don’t you don’t do that. So, so there there’s a lot of work to do there. There’s a lot of work to I I don’t even know how to grade it. Wouldn’t be a good grade on the first game, but I’m giving leeway because of how guys train now in the NFL. And let’s go look forward to game two to see and make more of an assessment to what we have to what we have. This does worry me because, you know, I I want those other guys, second and third guys, to play with their hair on fire like we got to prove to other guys that we belong on the field. That’s what I got out of the Rams, but not out of the Cowboys. Still though, guys, me for tomorrow, Monday, I I’ll be in LA. All I want to see is what is going to be the conversation. You know, Shadur Sanders and the way he played. I I I don’t know if people they’ll still draw from it, but they won’t draw a whole bunch from the Cowboys losing in the preseason opener like that. But those will be the conversations. Now, I’m going to tell you how some people should place this conversation. And and honestly, cuz I had the appearance last night and and I went to church this morning, I haven’t had a chance to rewatch it. I’m going to watch the Tennessee Titans game on on the airplane. I’ll rewatch it on on the app and just cuz I want to break I watch every throw from Cam Ward and and what’s going to happen cuz I I p Cam Ward was definitely a number one pick. Definitely a number one pick. And and what we’re talking about is Shidor Sanders. If people are going to put these two, if they are smart in analysis because Shador Sanders play says he belongs better somewhere better than a fifth round pick. Now the determining factor is where does he belong? We already recognize that he got shaded. that was not a fifth rounder in his first game and you saw a first pick in his first game. People will compare those two play to determine where Shadura from that one little information, one little game, that little bit of information or where Shador should he have been drafted? Should he have been draft? Even if you say he he should definitely he should you know Cam Ward is a number one quarterback in the draft. He should have been drafted number one. Even if you say that you can’t say when you do a comparative analysis of the whole week one situation at least Shidor Sanders should have been drafted. Number two, when you do those compar comparative analysis, you’ll come out with that assessment should have been like what we talked about Cam W should do Sanders at two. That’s the argument that everybody’s going to be debating for the for for the for the near future of Shadore Sanders. And since we only have one week of information, I want everybody speaking from the standpoint Shadora one, the other side zero cuz he won week one. on all places in all spaces.

  1. Sure. Diggs hates to tackle and Parsons sucks against the run. Two conceited players with delusion of grandeur. We could be and will be fine without them. Neither of the two are bigger than the STAR.

  2. What's Up. Thanks 🙏🏿 for Praying for Cowboy Prescott 🏉💙🖤🤍♥️ 🪖 because it's going to another long 21 more week's. We're in Bad SHAPE. 🫁 Never Smoka's. SORRY 🕹️🕹️🕹️ 💙🔵💙🔵💙🔵 We were born to sing the blue's. There's always Maverick City 🌆 God Bless Tarrant, Texas Forever. Can't win with (R) Mayor JohnsonBouyer. 🗑️🛃 🤧

  3. Jimmy Johnson always says "Fatigue will make cowards of us all". The Cowboys have no defensive line, because management for years does not see value in improving it. So you will get the same thing. Can't stop the run and no pressure in the middle when passing. Hopefully they will discuss this while they are watching the Super Bowl this year.

  4. The only thing that will turn around this franchise is an empty stadium week after week. A full stadium is affirmation of the Jones way of running the Cowboys. Fans don’t have to eat the crap burger. The Netflix documentary only inflates the ego. “The Gambler” isn’t really a gambler at all. What gamble is associated with buying the world’s most recognizable football team?

  5. Playmaker! Analyze, situationally, and determine going forward that you have to analytically say.. the cowboys will never live up to the cowboys of old. There is no discipline or accountability. Just say what the problem is. Yes the man that paid you and countless players. Is he a bad person or business man? Hell no! He made people millionaires that would never had the opportunity to become that if it weren't for their ability to pass, catch, run or hit. Now, is he developing a winning culture? No. Please admit that sir. The cowboys looked like trash last night and they will this season as well. I'm a DIEHARD COWBOYS FAN!!! But I can't turn a blind eye to the issue. It's a culture of financial success and me first mentality rather than winning, such as it was when you were winning. Am I wrong Sir? Jimmy didn't play that, Troy wouldn't accept that, and Barry was gave that.

  6. I don’t wanna hear Schotty say shit from now on about competitiveness. Freaking Mahomes was in the Super Bowl and still plays in the preseason . Also Mazi is done dude can’t defeat a single block against a second teamer

  7. Maybe Sanders should have been #2 but what if the didn't need a QB? I think Sanders hurt his own draft stock, maybe rubbed people the wrong way. Is he talent hell ya, should it have happened, well shoulda, coulda, woulda, isn't how oblong balls bounce. Nothing but respect Mr Irving.

  8. Didn't see many Rams players out of shape. Coaching is the problem. Discipline should be from the 1st to 3rd stringer in a well coached team. Laundry fest all game.

  9. What’s crazy is, us regular people know the stopping the run was a big issue for years and they still didn’t address it they didn’t address it in free agency nor in the draft. I mean how stupid can the Jones be !!!

  10. Mike I am one of your biggest fans. I think that what you are doing right now is giving an excuse for the Cowboys. The RAMS were ready, why wasn't the Cowboys just as ready? Rams played there 2nd and 3rd strings, they looked much better than the Cowboys 2nd and 3rd. No more excuses for the Cowboys. Preseason is important for those trying to make each team in the NFL. Cowboys still can't stop the run. Believe me when I say this, this type of play carries into the season. The cry for the Cowboys should be as you put it PLAYMAKER……WIN AT ALL COST!!!!!

  11. Every year is the same with the Cowboys i seen Mahomes playing and many other QBS,and The Cowboys rest Dak every year? This year is going to be the worst year for Dak ,new Head Coach, new OC. And i don't see this new Coach taken the Cowboys to a Superbowl.

  12. It's simple math we have to get 8 wins that shows any improvement now how quick do we collect that So we will see at the bye week after dealing with Detroit I'm hoping for all players to stay healthy do their jobs and enjoy the good lord and his blessings

  13. Michael, their backups are better coached our backups. What i see is we don't have the talent, and we don't have the coaching to overcome the lack of talent. This team is not going to win many games. I've been a Cowboys fan since 1970. It looks like i am going to go to my grave before the Cowboys make an SB appearances why because the ownership sucks.

  14. The pre-season tells us a lot about the coaches.
On some teams, backup QBs are looking like they should be starters.
While on other teams, starting QBs are looking like they are going to struggle through the season.
    lol
