Why the New Orleans Pelicans need to EMBRACE the Rebuild!!!!
The New Orleans Pelicans, a team that after acquiring Zion Williamson had thought they found the missing piece, the piece they needed to become a legitimate contender for years to come. However, it seems yet again that the New Orleans Pelicans are stuck in a rebuild. After acquiring Jeremiah Fears, today we are back with another episode of the Rebuild Report to discuss what is this team doing and are they doing it right? And I think it would be hard to talk about the Pelicans rebuild without talking about the superstar that they thought they took number one overall, Zion Williamson. Zion Williamson and his tenure in New Orleans has been interesting to say the least. Throughout the entirety of his career, Zion has only had two seasons where he’s played more than 50 games. And of those other four seasons of his career, one he didn’t play at all and the other ones he made it to only 30 games. Zion’s health, I think, has legitimately ruined that rebuild. They had gotten Brandon Ingram, they tried to get McCullum, they had gotten Dejante, they had tried to do all these different things to try and, you know, facilitate their team around Zion Williamson being the future. ultimately his lack of health, his lack of availability. And then even the production has been good, but it hasn’t been out of this world like it was those, you know, that second season where he was putting up shack numbers and it was just like ridiculous. He’s been good, but I want to go out of my way to say he’s been remarkable and I think now you’re at a point where you’ve paid him and you can’t really move him right now. He his value as an asset is very unknown because he’s so injuryprone because again his production at times looks remarkable, right? He’ll be all NBA caliber and then he’ll have stretches where you’re like, “Oh, you’re cool, I guess.” And that’s where I think this rebuild is already kind of getting off to a rocky start because I think when you look into what this team tried to do with Zion, I commend them for it. But now they got stuck in purgatory where I don’t think they’ll ever be bad enough for a top pick overall. But they’ll also never be good enough to be like, “Oh my gosh, the Pelicans are really in the mix this year, you guys. They’re going to go for the title. They’re trying to get out the West.” And I think a big part of it is that, you know, on and off the court. Zion has not quite lived up to what he was supposed to be throughout the entirety of his career. Figured I’d say that before I get the wellster, you just I know he had that remarkable stretch. There’s no doubt about it, but it was a stretch. There’s also however many now seasons of bodies of work where it’s 30 games or less or he doesn’t play at all. That’s like it’s a production he’s giving you even that. The dude’s never played in the playoff series. They’ve been in the playoff/playin two times. He played one playin game, couldn’t finish the game, right? Cuz he got hurt and has never played in the playoffs since. That’s hard to call your building block for the future. So, I think this rebuild kind of gets off to a rocky start, but I do think they have young pieces that can salvage the rebuild through different means. And the first piece I want to talk about is Trey Murphy, who I made a video about a long time ago, and people finally seem to be coming around on him. Trey Murphy is a player that I was high on, I believe back in his rookie or sophomore season when I made my video on him, and I genuinely believe he’s been a remarkable player. Seeing his growth just really take a leap in this season has been awesome. Now, he’s going to be 25 next year, and I’m not sure if there’s much more to him at this point in terms of, you know, what he’s going to give you. He’s a good two-way player, a remarkable shooter, and he’s actually found a way to diversify his game even more. So, when you look at his cleaning the glass, his mid-range efficiency, all is going to look the same, right? You’re going to go, “Well, Mster, these all look the same percentage.” However, the frequency is where things get interesting, right? He took a 10% leap in his mid-range shot, and he also got to the rim the most in his career as well. He actually shot the three ball a little bit less while still being I mean 36 or 37% on eight threes a game is still elite for a shooter. So, you might be saying, “Well, this sounds really good.” And if he stays around as a part of this rebuild, that’s awesome. But I also think it might be the perfect way to keep the rebuild going by trading him. Now I think if you’re the Pelicans, you have to ultimately embrace the tank. You have Jeremiah Fears, you got Derek Queen, you got Jeremiah Fears, and I think ultimately right, you’re trying to go younger. That’s just how it’s kind of meant to go. But then they also went ahead and got guys like Jordan P and and Cavon Looney. and this team feels like they’re setting up to settle when I think if you trade away someone like Trey Murphy and you get that value while it’s at its best. You’re telling me a team like Denver, the Bucks, uh the Thunder even, you’re telling me some of these teams aren’t willing to take a two-way elite sniper and give you some draft capital? Absolutely they would. I think if you’re this Pelicans team, you need to embrace the tank. And I think while Trey Murphy is a remarkable player, he is 25. When you look at what he’s dealing with, I don’t know if he’s going to match their timeline. Now, he could be their vet. If if you in the comments go, “Well, Mster, he should stick around and be their vet.” I’m not against it. I’m not even necessarily saying they need to trade him or they’re done. But I think it’s becoming clear that this team needs to rebuild. And Trey Murphy either needs to be a a legitimate centerpiece in terms of like this is our vet. this is our guy that can help build this culture, build the locker room, and we can go from there and he can provide what this, you know, this league is really calling for, which is two-way, you know, three-point play. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if they said, you know what, some team offer us two to three first rounders. Two of them are unprotected. We’ve got to take that because who knows how good this team will be. And one more guy who I think actually can be a central part of the rebuild is Eve Messi. Eve Messi is a very interesting player for this team. I mean, he really came out of relatively nowhere. Uh, being towards the end of the first round, again, a player that I don’t think a lot of guys were hyping up from Baylor or anything like that. He had a legitimately really, really good season um for this team, right? He’s giving you 9, eight, and one with about a block and a steal a game or half, so about a block and a half a game. I think what he provides this team is really good. And I think it’s also important because he is quite young. I mean, he’s just turned 21, right? He will fit your timeline for the rebuild. He’s 6’11. You can help build up his defense. I do think his defensive side of the ball will get better. I think it’s hard when you lose to Jonte, Herb Jones got hurt for a big chunk of the season. So, it’s kind of you, Trey Murphy for a little bit, CJ McCullum, those games with Zion and Zion’s not that good of a defender. I think he kind of got stuck in a in a in a tough spot. Now, do I think if a fully healthy Pelicans were around that he’s going to look like Rudy Goar? Absolutely not. But I think his defensive stats, when you look at on off and all those things, I think it would look significantly better if he just had a little bit of defensive help around him because again, like I think some defensive skill is there. It’s just got to be developed and got to be put around the right teammates so that they can actually experience the fruit of that labor. And I really think that this guy can be something really, really nice. like I think he can be their, you know, their like cornerstone center like how I thought Mark Williams was going to be for the Hornets. Now, obviously that’s different. You know, the trade happened and everything, but that’s what I sort of thought it was going to be. Like I do believe Eves Messi can be their, you know, like for the next 5, 6, 7, 8 years. That’s their starting big unless, you know, they get someone crazy in the draft, in which case, I mean, it is what it is. But even then, that’s a guy who could be a part of the culture. And I think seeing guys like Eves Messi drafted by the Pelicans is telling me that they are doing good at scouting. Like I do think they are a good developmental team because Trey Murphy’s turned out to be really good. Jordan Hawkins has had good stretches. Ease Messi is really, you know, again, I get it. He’s a first round pick, but still not all first round picks are the same. Seeing what they have been able to do from the draft, I think has actually been really good. So again, that’s why I’m calling for them to embrace the tank because the rebuild as of right now is struggling because they’re in the middle. They’re in my Chicago Bull situation and we’re going to make a video on that. Don’t you worry. But finally, we need to get to the best part. What is the Pelicans grade for this rebuild? I’m going to give this grade for the rebuild F because here’s the thing. I love the young pieces they have drafted. That is very true. I don’t love that you traded for Jordan Pool and then drafted Jeremiah Pierce. That doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially when DeJonte Murray’s going to come back. Then in your trade, you gave up a unprotected first round pick to get Derrick Queen, who has similar issues to a Zion where he’s a good mobile. Obviously, he’s not as good as Zion. Don’t get that twisted. But can’t really guard four man. Like I mean, he can, but you know what I’m saying? Like the defense is lacking. The offense at times looks good, but it’s a little li it feels very odd. and you gave up your future pick for next year in what a lot of people consider to be an even better overall draft class. You gave up your stake in that. And that to me is where things get ridiculous. That is a poor move. That is thinking that you are something that you are not. This team is not contending. This team is not really looking to be that competitive. When you look at the league top to bottom, do you genuinely believe in your heart of hearts they will even end up with a better record than the Portland Trailblazers? I don’t think so. I really don’t. I think this team made a lot of moves as if they were like a Denver Nuggets where they they’ve tasted victory or they’ve tasted a championship or getting close or the second third round and they just got him to get that one last guy, but they’re not. I think if this team embraces the tank, they can very easily be one of the best rebuilds in the league. Trey Murphy, Jordan Hawkins, Eves Messi, those three alone, like that’s a good start, right? Like the Wizards, is it necessarily going to be your franchise trio? No. But those are great pieces to fit along whoever you find as your superstar in the draft. That’s what I think this Pelican team needs to do. Embrace the tank. That’s what this F is really for. If you are not embracing the tank and realizing that what you’re doing is not going to work for actual success, buddy, you you got to change. But as always guys, this was answer. Let me know what you guys think down below. Do you guys think that this rebuild is even a rebuild? I know there are probably some people who don’t think that the Pelicans are a rebuilding team. I would call them one just because I think at this point it’s clear Zion’s health and now off the court stuff. A lot’s going on with Zion at all times. It has never not been. There’s never been a point where Zion is just sort of playing and there’s not a problem except for about last year. And even then, what did it end with? Him getting hurt again. So even then, there’s always something. So let me know what you guys think down below. As always, this was Mos Hoops. Don’t forget to leave a like, comment, subscribe. The New Orleans Pelicans are a team who due to very unfortunate circumstances year after year seemed to fall short in the “Zion Era”. With another shortened season from the player they thought would be their saving grace, it has become clear that this team must embrace that rebuilding is what they NEED To do. Today we bring a different kind of rebuild report, because while this team has not necessarily embraced the tank I think it is clear this team does have a outline for a rebuild that can still feature Zion due to his value being all over the place! Let me know what YOU guys think about the Pelicans, should they rebuild, try another season with Zion, or do you think they are rebuilding already but just do not want to tell their fans?? #neworleanspelicans #zionwilliamson #lebronjames #kevindurant #nba #basketball #stephencurry

The Pelicans have rebuilt around Zion and in spite of Zion. You just can’t see it. Jordan Pool had a superstar caliber season last year. He is a legit star player and should not be looked at as just a cog. The guy can cook. If anyone is traded it’ll be Dejounty Murray.
Derrick Queen is not called the baby Jokic for nothing. He has some of the best foot work ever for a young guy his size. He’s just 19 and has the potential to be the best player to replace Zion and be a super star.
Nobody on the roster is over 30. Looney may be the oldest player. But there is no need to rebuild for them. Fears, Queen, Missi, Trey Murphy, Pool, Herb Jones are all good young players. They just need 1 player to evolve into a superstar. Fears and or Queen could be that. But you gotta let these guys play before you just write them off.
You may not be wrong. But this video is way too early on calling for a gutting of a young roster just to draft more young hit or miss players. Nobody in next year’s draft is going to save the Pelicans.
