VIKINGS-TEXANS RECAP: WINNERS & WINNERS!
[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? Uh, Sunday. Uh, so sorry for the delay getting Vikings Texans recap winners and newsers out. So, uh, sorry, daddy has to live his life sometimes. And also, I don’t know why these Oh, there’s Rhonda Moore injury. Hey, so we’re rewatching the game right now. I I don’t know why people get married during preseason football season. I don’t know. Marriage ain’t going to last. I’m just playing. All right. Uh anyways, uh we we are back and it’s the only scheduling conflict that we’ll have in preseason or regular season. So, here we go. But and of course, everything is about JJ McCarthy and his debut. We’ll talk about too. And what we were going to do winners and losers, but sorry, winners and loers. That one felt good. Damn it. We’re back, baby. We are back. But turning over a new Leaf trying to be more positive if that’s possible. That was good. Uh losers on the day. The the the starting defense. Basically just got dog walked all the way down the field by Davis Mills as 9 foot neck. For shame. For shame. Just miscommunication, missed tackles, not keeping contain. It is frustrating. Frustrating. Right. But uh the Vikings second and 13 units. They got things done later on. There were some studs. Uh so here are winners from the game. That was First up is Khif Halassi, a raised hail and praise Dale. That’s right. So Hassie a third thirdyear prospect trying to make a name for himself trying to get on a rooster. Two interceptions, three passes broken up. Had a good nose for the football. Uh you know, second one off a deflection. And Hassie has made some plays in training camp beginning some decent run as of late. And horse performances like this will generally help solidify things. Now, maybe not make the rooster uh but definitely has a chance to uh make the practice squad, right? And Halasia can also play corner as well. Ambry Thomas had a nice interception, too. So, all all these things are coming together. Kind of good to see. Also, second man of the match, Gabriel Murphy. That’s a Gabe Mur. I feel like we should have gotten his twin brother, Grayson. We could have had a twofer. Uh but uh Gabriel Murphy who was the real driver of the pressure unit at UCLA, not saying I’m just saying. Uh five pressures, one and a half sacks. Uh split one with Hey, Bo Richtor. You know, Bo Richtor had a nice game, too. And Murf, this is kind of great because Murf had was dinged up with a knee injury last year. or so didn’t really get the full freight experience of training camp preseason and now we’re seeing why the Vikings were so interested in him as the UDFA. Gave him a big time guarantee, kept him on the practice squad all last year. So Murf, yeah, I think Murf definitely makes a push and I think he makes a 53 uh this time around. Same thing with Bo Richtor. Uh next, Xavier Scott. We talked about Xavier Scott earlier in the week and I I think that he has a legit chance to be running back three for the Vikings. got uh seven carries for 40 yards, 5.7 yards per carry, strong like bull. He’s he’s an unorthodox running back certainly because you he does have receiver and running back experience uh from Yukon and Maine. Go Bears. Only time I’ll ever say go Bears. Uh as well as a catch on screen for 11 yards. uh plus was really uh good in pass protection where Scott like he’s an upright runner like he he looks a little little weird running you know uh where I’m trying to describe it like like he’s a stouter Latavius Murray where he is an upright runner it’s almost like he’s like a rugby ball carrier uh back there but yeah Xavier Scott plays some good special teams I I I definitely think that he is the inside track for a running back three uh behind Jordan Mason and a Ron Jones. So, I I like seeing it. All right, Trey Stewart showed some wiggle as well, Ty Chandler. I don’t know. I don’t know. Next up, winner number four, slinging Sam Howell, aka Korea’s quarterback. So, Howell, you know, this time last week, there’s a lot of questions and legitimate questions because how had not played well, right? Even though he had done fine during OTAAS’s uh in camp when the Heat gets turned up, it wasn’t looking good. And you know, the thing with how is that, like, yes, he has a full year starting experience with the 2023 commies, but you know, he led the league in interceptions, also led the league in sacks, by the way. Uh, but he can sling it and he’s not afraid to sling it. Uh, but the thing with Kevin McConnell’s offense is that take care of the football and go from there, right? Also, I misspelled Lucky Jackson. Oh, well. Uh, but how the pride of UNCC was solid yesterday. 11 of 13 for a Buck05, 100.3K fan rating. uh snuck in a touchdown and he was quick, he was decisive when he got moved off the spot. Uh he kept his eyes down field, wasn’t careless with the rock and del delivered a good ball. So I I think that’s exactly what you want and need uh from your backup quarterback. Also, you Bromer who we’ll talk about looked good. Brett Ripen, but I think Hal finally reestablished himself as quarterback, too. Not not just the game, but also uh this entire week of practice, he he looked pretty good. And I think that um how can really sew this thing up next week uh with a good showing in joint practices. Also, he probably get some uh good run uh in the last two pres season games as well. Uh next up, winner number five, Lucky Jackson. Lucky Jackson. Uh so, three catches for 30 yards on four targets. The fourth target just just missed, you know, that that shot from JJ McCarthy would have been beautiful. And Jackson, you know, low-key, he’s been one of the stories of camp, you know, because the third year player coming out of Western Kentucky. Woo. Love to see that. And the thing about too is like, hey, players can develop. Players can get better. Like Lucky Jackson is a super clean route runner, has good hands. He’s what you want in a receiver, right? And I I know that, you know, people are sort of poo pooing the wide receiver depth, but when have you known Quy not to be aggressive going after needs for the team, right? And it’s pretty clear that Quy Mardle, Kevin McConnell, like they feel good about guys like Lucky Jackson, Deshaawn Jones, The Thomas, uh Ty Felton eventually as well, where you know they’re not freaking out. They’re not just snap signing an Amari Cooper or whatever, right? And lucky, remember, Adam Thielen wasn’t Adam Them till year three and Jackson is now in year three with the team. And don’t sleep on, hey. All right. So, a player is on the practice squad, blah blah blah. But being in the building every single day, coaches and Quacy and evaluators see how a player reacts, how he responds with within a team, how, you know, he he prepares, uh, even if he’s running scout team. It’s like all those things like add up to, hey, this guy could be a a really solid part of this team down the line. I think Clark Jackson could get a shot. Uh, next up, winner number six, Max Brazmer. H, the pride of University of Minnesota Golden Golfers. Uh Minnesota, Minnesota. Hey Minnesota, we need a better rouser. Come on, man. Uh but Brazmer, so 58 for 47 yards, touchdown to Miles Price. We’re 31 catching touchdown. Yeah. Uh 118.2 quarterback rating. And some of Brazner, like I know we’re the patron saint of Vikings backup quarterbacks. We’re like, “Hey, the Mormon missile. Hey, Kyle Slutter. Woo.” That’s right. But with with Brazmer, I’m not saying that he’s going to be a starting quarterback anytime soon, but Brazmer like, this is what I always look for. Like, are you a deer in headlights or are you calm? Are you an operator out there? And Bromer is definitely an operator. Like, he’s accurate. Gets rid of the ball quick, which is good. Goes through his reads quick as well. Has solid footwork and mechanics downfield. And I feel like, hell, Brock Pury was the dead last pick in the seventh round. And now if you if you watch the channel, you know I I respect Brock Pury, but I don’t have any love for him. I I I don’t think that he’s an elite tier one quarterback. But is he a starting quarterback? Yes. Do do I think Bromer could have some of those traits? Not be a starter, but could be a high-end backup for McCarthy long term? Yes, I also believe that. Yeah. Next up, winner number seven, rack guard Will Fry. You know you want him. So I I I know that he played limited snaps. was 13 snaps in the opening drive. But some of the clips like obviously he and Ryan Kelly have good communication, but also um our guy Sean Borman put put out a really nice clip of Fry and Brian O’Neal just seamlessly, you know, picking up a TN stunt. And it’s something that’s so basic, but we’ve the Vikings have had so many problems with that over the last couple years, mainly the guard spot. and Fry and O’Neal haven’t had a lot of live reps together either, even in practice, but they’re communicating at a high level, and it’s only going to get better. So, it’s good to see that. Uh, eight quarterback JJ McCarthy, of course, it’s all about JJ. JJ JJ, no treble, right? And as we said, JJ’s series was a roar shack test. Like, I don’t think it changed anyone’s mind about things, but if you supported JJ, you’re in. If you’re a hater, JJ, you’re you’re also in. Sure. Uh but McCarthy 407 for30, smooth, operated the offense, multiplatform uh throws, including that first boot action uh to the left throw to Addison, which I think was a little bit behind, but then leading Addison on the crosser for the first down on third down, uh as well as the deep out shot where only Addison could get. It was good to see. All right, so ball placement was pretty good. pretty sol. Like we said, we graded his outing a B+. You started to drive at the 12, you ended up with points. I mean, that that’s pretty good. Oh, but his quarterback rate was 67 and and whatever. Uh do you throw a pick? No. Do you throw he throw interceptable interceptable ball? No. Uh does he want that throw Lucky Jackson back? Yes. All right. And also Charlie Skidle, you know, picking up that first uh first down on fourth down with his legs. Good to see. But just the the Kevin McConnell always talks about the soft skills like getting out of the huddle, scanning the line of scrimmage, communicating with the center uh on the protection and just looking like you’re not going to be rattled back there. Like he he got a couple of pressures uh sure, but he kept his eyes downfield, wasn’t panicked, wasn’t a big thing, right? And now especially imagine what he’ll look like with Darasaw and Justin Jefferson back in there. Woo! It’s going to be good to see. Fantastic. Uh next, wide receiver Jordan Addison. So Addison along with Gernard is probably having the best camp of any Viking out there. Addison three for three uh uh uh uh three catches for 33 yards on four targets. Yeah, free three. The movement is there. And with Addison, you it’s clear that yes, it was the Texans second team defense and he was just a man amongst boys out there. And Addison, I think he’s a top 20 receiver in this league. like he’ll be a number one for so many teams and yes it’s going to suck uh without him during his suspension but just keep in mind like hey Vikings got to weather three games I I think that obviously Jefferson is going to step up Naylor hopefully won’t drop things Lucky Jackson can be that mix plus it’s not act like the Vikings are running four and five wide receiver sets run the oop-doop uh the first three games no I mean Vikings probably won’t even run a ton of 11 personnel uh with Hawinson and Oliver in there plus I think the Vikings going to run a lot more two running back sets especially early in the season CJ Ham and even both Mason and Jones at the same time man but once he gets back from suspension like the connection between him and McCarthy is legit so it’s something to keep in mind uh next winner number 10 center Michael Jurgens so what really sucks is you know Zeke Coral you know broke his ankle um he had been pushing Jurgens for the backup center spot and Ryan Kelly a little bit older and also you know we’ve already experienced uh some of the injuries where backup center is going to be paramount this year and Jurgens uh he played well in preseason last year kept McCarthy clean in the Raiders game last year. Uh kept um slinging Sam how clean uh this time around and just solid comms picking up games um picking up stunts inside picking up blitzers. I feel like Jurgens he settled in like and does have center and guard flexibility and overall a good showing by it puts a lotion on skin. Winner number 11, Will the Thrill. So, had been a minor concern. Uh, but two for two, long of 48. He’s back hopefully. Yeah. And also, winner number 12, wide receiver Ty Felton. Uh, two two for 14. Uh, two kick returns for 36 yards. Uh, one call back on penalty. Now, he does have some juice, right? And, you know, sort of treat this as a red shirt year for Felton. Uh, coming as a third round pick, but you could tell like there’s there’s definitely something there when he has the ball in his hands. like uh coach Hack called him a ballin hand type player which is for sure like there’s a lot of wiggle there’s a lot to like uh with Ty Felton and it might not be this year uh but offensively I feel like he’ll be a contributor I think he’s u uh has inside track for kick return uh potentially punt return now with uh with Rond Del Moore getting dinged up uh so overall it’s like it’s going to be interesting plus he he’ll get a lot of run in preseason and I think we haven’t even seen the best of Ty Felton yet so far uh but that’s it That’s at 12 winners, no losers except for the the starting defense. Come on. Come on. Let us know your thoughts. Our thoughts comment section. You guys have to do skull production value.

Tai Felton is one more injury away from being a starter.
has anyone mentioned Tai Felton laying the BOOM leading to a fumble!? that was awesome to see
Thanks for wearing the Joey browner Jersey!
Instead of "losers" you should say "Needs improvement".
SKOL VIKINGS ! Can't wait for season to start
While of course we don't want our defense to look bad at all, I'd like to point out that they didn't make waves in preseason last year either, it also wasn't much of a starting defense since, if I'm not mistaken, we only had 2 starters out there, Okudah and Jackson (who played okay imo). One could argue it was 3 starters if you count Turner which is fair since Flores himself said he sees Turner as 1 of 3 starters on the edge.
tldr: the defense is hiding schemes and not showing off the full lineup, just like last year and that worked well. We're in for a treat this year.
13:00 Forgot about Felton's forced fumble at gunner
Personally Brosmer should be higher than QB4 on the chart, not saying he should start over JJ but at least to this point (pending preseason games 2 & 3) there’s no way Brosmer is making it through waivers to land on the practice squad.
Not having Jordan is going to suck
Ambry Thomas deserves some love too
They need to figure a way to keep Elijah Williams #99. He looks good
Sam was very impressive. He and O’Connell could have potential.
I cant lie as a fan Andy after the vikings play a game your opinion matters 😂 i be waiting but i understand you have a life
Did I hear you bring up T-Train? Not gonna lie, I kinda forgot he played for us.🤣
Rondale Moore an unfortunate loser. But I think it just makes the wr room complete. Jets, 3, nail, tai, lucky.
Murph I thought was 1
Losers: Brett Rypien (I feel so bad for him but jesus christ)
Winners: Pretty much everybody else
Thank you Andy😎🙌🏼🤣
Jurgens sucks he’s terrible. You gotta quit hyping him up should be cut
Sweet jersey, been wearing #47 for decades. Wishing Joey the best.
I watched the NFL highlights of the game and Ty Chandler…nope. He's just kind of a nothing RB. He's fast, but touch him and he falls down. No power, balance, moves, or vision. Strictly average and he doesn't look any better from previous years. Vikes should move on.
Always miss the W&L’s videos in the off season. Glad it’s back.
