Devin Booker DOUBLED More Than Almost ANYONE π³
You look at all of these names on this list. Mhm. And what comes to mind for me, all double teams are not created equally in any capacity. No one saw double teams the likes of Nicole Joic on this list. He’s in that top S tier, if you will. 841. Yes. On volume, but also in the exotic nature of it. You’re not going to ever send a double team the exact same way every touch for him. after after Joic honestly maybe Giannis to certain extents depending on where his touches were coming from. Mhm. But no one saw the types of doubles that Deon Booker did. And what I’m saying by that is who else is getting pressured 94 ft right on this list of players. Shots are so funny. These are almost all big men. Correct. Yeah. So, my point in bringing that up, if he’s getting pressed 90 to 94 ft and then tries to get into a primary action and as a secondary layer to the extreme pickup point, he’s now being doubled. There’s a layering of process in that that is only coming second to Nicole Yokis

And yet folks have the nerve to say Book is trash. FOH.
Bro it is true. I traveled to NY Nov/26/2023 to watch suns @ Knicks. He was doubled that whole damn night AND he scored the winning shot in the final seconds of the game!
This is the first bit of analysis where I finally see an angle I might be able to buy into for the Jalen Green pairing working.
If Green is often tasked w/ the "PG" responsibility of bringing the ball past half court, it cuts down on the exhaustive amount of doubles Book needs to deal with game to game in a way the pairing w/ Beal + KD never managed but the CP3 pairing prior presumably did.
If I'm understanding that chart, the Shot % for Book out of doubles means he wasn't ending up shooting the ball even 1/5th of the time when doubled, which is a huge outlier among the rest of that group. It's worth considering that getting that 19.4% more in line with the others will mean that even if the overall # of double-teams is high for him, he's being more effective because instead of being forced to give up the ball quickly he is able to get into actions and take a handful more shots rather than putting that onto the plates of less capable shooters (which was the case beyond KD last year & likely to be the case A LOT this year)
Everyone who says he's not a superstar, this proves he's a superstar. If you're getting double-teamed more than any other player in the league, you're one of the best players in the league. Michael Jordan rules. You know who has Michael Jordan rules? Luka doncic, no I'm not disappointed that we didn't draft him, if he played in Phoenix he wouldn't get the foul calls he gets and he wouldn't get away with the offensive fouls he makes on every single f**** play. He would foul out of the game in 3 minutes if he played for the Suns.
Well thatβs why Jalen Green is in town now. Heβs not Kyrie but he can definitely help get Booker get some open looks
