its far better than angel. W all around
Nerves maybe? It would be interesting to see some of her stats from Minor League games to see if they are similar.
About what you’d expect from a debut. She seemed really sharp after that initial miss, but then a few errors seemed to compound around the fourth inning.
Unfortunately there were a lot of borderline pitches near the top of the zone, which is the hardest to judge, as it changes every pitch.
I don’t like these “ump scorecards”. They falsely claim the strike zone is a rectangle and static. Part of the game is the fact the umpire is not going to be 100% perfect and players need to make adjustments as such. If you look at this it’s pretty clear she was favoring inside pitches on RHH.
Not a great performance, but acceptable for first time out.
So a terrible zone causing many fans to pull their hair out. Women truly can do anything men can do.
Nearly hitting the batter is a strike. Is this Banana ball?
It’s unnerving to be making history in front of thousands, so there would be many missed calls. See if she improves the more time she stays up here.
I’d like to see Angel Hernandez accuracy.
So….rookie ump was a tad below an average ump?
That actually sounds better than a lot of rookie umps. And a few longtime umps, not gonna name names
With a n of 1 – let’s not get carried away one way or another re her performance.
Pretty consistent. That’s all you can really ask for.
I’ve only seen the highlights to the game but the stats here aren’t too bothersome particularly with it being her first game. I’m sure nerves played a big role in the missed calls.
93%! Great start.
lol 87%
The reality is that she needs to be better than average to avoid the haters.
She was pretty consistent and I’d love to have her as a full time ump. Game was called fairly for both teams, which is half the battle, and she’s better than bucknor or Hernandez.
I’ve seen others that were this bad this year too. Its all umps man. These umpire scorecards have been a thing for years and years now and this year is easily the worst I’ve seen.
So, pretty fucking average.
Man that opening call from the announcers immediately followed up by a terrible first call from the umpire was hilarious
The announcers did say that throughout her career she has consistently missed those calls in that cluster to the left of the zone, so at least the consistency is there which is still solid and what players and coaches like to see. You can definitely play a game knowing that side of the zone might get stretched out a bit by the ump, but if the ump is wildly calling pitches wrong all over the zone you can’t really work with that.
And you decided to focus on her card because she’s new??
It’s a sample size of one game. I’m not going to judge her on it. Come back to me when there’s at least a full season’s worth of games to judge her on.
That first call was brutal. Buckle up boys, there will be turbulence
I am sure sure will be a good umpire, but it will be an interesting day when the first manager to get in her face and tell her what an awful job she is doing that day calling strikes/balls (like any male umpire gets from mangers )
If we take the computer’s word that a call was wrong, why isn’t the computer calling balls and strikes to begin with?
As long as CB Bucknor is still calling games, she’ll be just fine. No need to overanalyze this.
In the grand scheme of things, a quarter of a run favor for 1 team doesn’t seem horrible. Yeah, 93% is bad, but if it’s consistently bad for both teams, it’s probably within the realm of semi-fair.
My question is, where on this spray chart is that 1st pitch that was a ball about 5 inches inside called for a strike?
I be forgetting this sub hates women lol
Women. Pfffft. Am I right?
Well, at least the overall favour column is looking good
She was 2nd worst on her first game. So some seasoned vet was worse than she was last night. That’s a disturbing thing.
I haven’t seen this bad of a performance behind home plate since that California Angels game that the Queen of England attended. That game is probably better known as the game that Reggie Jackson attempted to assassinate the Queen. But, right before that incident, the ump was making ridiculous calls.
Good start, minimal impact, just below average, ATL bats helped out.
I’m not too worried about her ability. Even if her performance isn’t elite, we may be seeing some scratching and hair-pulling fights between her and some of the player WAGs in the crowd.
Good for her. If she’s qualified for the job, which she seems to be, no one should have any issues with this.
HOWEVER, purely from an entertainment standpoint, the players and managers will 100% be less likely to argue/get in the face of women umps. Which is a bummer.
It would be interesting to see how her debut lined up with other umpires who made their debuts. Would most people consider this a success? Average? Or meh?
