My Game Day: Chris Garagiola | Arizona Diamondbacks

[Music] Deep center field. Way back. Way back. This is good. [Applause] [Music] Leo, how are we today? [Music] It’s really special for obvious reasons. You know, it’s been almost 10 years since he passed and he didn’t get to hear me broadcast a lot. But at the same time, walking past it is like a great reminder that not only do I get to work a big league game, which is something that for a long time, like I would have done anything to have that opportunity, but also how much room there is to improve cuz I think he was at like the apex of broadcasting, World Series, game shows, NBC, all that sort of stuff. So, it’s just such a wonderful tribute that Debbex gave. Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing something new and other times it’s just a comforting feeling to uh you know see a loved one, see your grandfather. I think back then I didn’t have much of an appreciation for what like a general manager does. I mean the Diamondback’s first year was 1998. I was 6 years old and obviously four years later they win the World Series. to be able to come back and and work for my hometown team and, you know, remember some of the halls and and sitting in the booth down there. It’s really special to sometimes have him swing by and tell stories to all of us and just us talk about the game. Uh, you know, some 20 years later, we’ve got like 30 40 minutes until Tori does his press conference. We want to get down there for that. Both teams will have posted their lineups and then it’s just a matter of like filling out your scorecard. Corbin uh Carol on the heels of what he did last night, which in my opinion was amazing. Get excited, baby. Woo! Broadcasting live from Chasefield in downtown Phoenix, it is once again time for Arizona Diamondback baseball. The Kansas City Royals are in town. Hi everybody. Welcome inside the Greg Schulty radio booth. Happy 4th of July. Plenty of red, white, and blue on display. The first pitch of the ball game is taken for a strike. And we’re off and running at 641. Leftander ready. First pitch. Catelli swings, pops it up. Shallow right field. Out goes Pquatino. He gives up on it and that’s going to fall for a base hit. 3-2 pitch. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. And that one swung on. Tawa diving catch. Makes the play. Here’s a 3-2. Swung on. And that’s ripped to left. That’ll be a base hit. A two hit day for Purdomo. He reaches base four times. Yesterday when I was in the clubhouse, Ryan, he was like, “Hey, how come you haven’t talked about this much on the broadcast, the next strikeout you get, what do you want your call to be?” And he thought about it for one second and then said, “That’s some venom from the Sidewinder Snake.” I was like, “Are you serious?” His 02 pitch swing and a miss. And there’s some venom for the Sidewinder Snake as he posts a one, two, three. Top of the seventh. We send it over to Chuck Drago as we get ready for God Bless America. Well, that’s going to do it for our coverage of the opener. Enjoy the rest of your Fourth of July. Be safe and we look forward to talking to you again tomorrow afternoon. Take care everyone.
