Washington Commanders Waste No Time Making Changes After Ugly Loss

All right, the Commanders waste no time making changes after that preseason game. If you’re new to the channel, uh we are Detroit Lions fans, but this channel’s fully dedicated to teams that are overlooked by the national media and the Commanders were that for a long time. Of course, you’re getting attention now. You went to the NFC Championship game, but we were on you before. You were good and then you beat us in the playoffs and um All right, here it is. I I love that you did this. So basically he said, “Okay, here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to release Dominique Hampton, Foko Jr., and Allan George. Goodbye.” And we’re going to bring in three new players. Bassie Hamilton senior and Duke Riley. We’ll get to Duke Riley here in just a second. But um Hampton was a pick that you had. I think he was Yeah. fifth round pick last year’s draft. Tried to make it work. Didn’t work. Fine. See you. And that’s just the world we live in now. Um, well, the NFL world we live in where if you it’s just it’s just like it’s time to go. See you. I mean, we’re just not going to wait around. And whether that’s fair or not, I don’t know, but it’s it’s just the way it is. So, fifth round pick, easy. See you. And Duke Riley comes in. Now, Duke Riley, he was the guy in the thumbnail. He’s been in the league since 2017. He was a third round pick selected by the Atlanta Falcons. Now he reunites with Dan Quinn who was previously at Atlanta. His leadership and special teams ex expertise are expected to contribute positively to the commander defense and special teams. Si.com reported. So he’s like, “All right, enough of this young guy stuff. what we need to do, go out, get a veteran guy in and a guy like Duke Riley who’s been around the league a little bit, been in the league for quite a while, and let’s just settle down here a little bit because that preseason game was wild. The Lions preseason game, their first preseason game, same thing, was just like, oh my gosh, this was brutal. I mean, the Lions fumbled the opening kickoff. Couple plays later, the Chargers score. The Commanders, oh my gosh. I mean, brutal. Just Well, didn’t didn’t the opening kickoff um didn’t they take the opening kickoff back or you know, special teams was was brutal. The committers had 15 penalties. It resulted in about a 100 yards. It was tough. It was tough to watch. So, I love making changes like this. I I don’t think you can go wrong by just saying, “Okay, you three guys who have no chance making the roster, why would we just kind of keep sending you out there? We watched on tape some just brutal mistakes, you’re gone.” And so, here’s a couple things that came out of this. Um, obviously I don’t want to spend a lot of time on this, but I think it’s really interesting is that Jakori Bill Kroski Merritt, I don’t know why they call him Bill, 32 yards on eight touches, but you could see it. I mean, the stat line doesn’t really show it. And so, um, his best play, a 16-y reception, was wiped away because of a penalty, but he’s able to make a quick juke. You could see it. So, you’ve got positives from this game. And again, this is what the Lions had the same thing. Their first preseason game was so hard to watch. Um, we know it’s preseason. We get that. But just be encouraged that there’s it’s fine. The other thing that I love is that special teams struggled. And this goes to the point of this video. Why sit around even in preeason and just like, well, I don’t know. It’s like if they can’t do it, they can’t do it. They’re gone. And you bring three more new guys in. Maybe they can be special teams guys. Maybe they’re just going to be camp bodies. I don’t know, but we’re making changes. I love that. And then finally, um Josh Connorly had some solid snaps. So again, first preseason game, you want to get Crosky Merritt, you want to get some of these guys that are going to play, um that are new that are going to have some meaningful snaps. Connelly is one of them that you like, all right, let’s just see what you have. So we had strong joint practice on Wednesday. that one over here. Protection to his side felt strong. It It just felt like clean for him. Perfect. Love that. And then finally, it’s never great to lose a game by 30 points. Again, I think the Lions lost by 20 something. Um, obviously a lot of guys didn’t suit up. And you know what? You know what the other thing too that and I would love to know this and I don’t know the answer but I think offensive coordinators right if you were just to go out preseason versus preseason and and you had to win the game you’d call the game so much differently you’d do a lot of different things but it’s like all right now we want to see on third and eight if you can do something that we probably wouldn’t if we were trying to win the game we’d probably run a play that would get us five yards and then go for it on fourth down right but it’s like all right nope third and Hey, we’re going to run this play. It’s going to get us 12 yards if we hit it. We want to see can our quarterback and he can’t and then you got a punt and you know what I mean? It’s just like and it’s hard too when the quarterback’s kind of struggling and you can’t really get in a rhythm offensively and then defensively you know penalties turn ball. It’s just it’s rough. It’s rough. So don’t worry commanders are going to be just fine. Lions are going to be just fine. preseason starters aren’t out there, but at the same time, when you see your team, your team, your helmets, your uniforms out there, TV, they’re there’s officials out there going against another team and they’re just getting killed. It’s like, oh my gosh, this is brutal. But all good. And I think I think the Commanders um you really look because because again, the Lions had that extra preseason game. The second one looks so much better. There’s just a lot of the mechanics of a play that just looks so much better, quicker, faster, sharper. So, I think the commanders will be the in the same. We all understand it’s preseason, but at the same time, it’s like, let’s let’s look good. Like, if we’re going to be out there, we’re going to be on TV and we’re going to show this. Let’s make sure we’re good. Um, another thing that we we’ve been talking about on this channel, again, if you’re new, make sure you subscribe. Commanders, nothing nothing but five, six teams. And so we do a commander video for sure once a week, couple times a week. Um, we we’ve been talking about how 40% of the league and the AFC, 40% of the NFC gets into the playoffs. So the Commanders taught me last year that couple things. Number one, you want to win the division to say that you did and you know all that 100%. But don’t freak out over losses. I mean, get into the playoffs. You have no idea once you get into the playoffs. Is that other team injured? Is are they going to have a bad week? Are you going to have a good week and they’re going to who knows? Just get into the playoffs. So, don’t stress when you lose two in a row, right? If you’re like, “All right, lost to the Eagles, then we lose to the Browns or something weird and you’re just like, “Oh my gosh.” Week by week, get into the playoffs. That’s what the Commanders taught me last year. Go up against the team, you’re hot, they’re not. that you have a good day, they have a bad day. Couple plays here, interception there. Next thing you know, it’s like we we went in to this like one of the craziest places to play in Detroit and walked out with a victory. I love it. I mean, I know I didn’t love it obviously, but I love just like, hey, there’s a lot just keep playing. It’s about enjoying the games as far into the season as you possibly can. So, it’s like make the playoffs and make it happen. So, let me know your thoughts in the comments. Make sure you subscribe if you haven’t. If you’re new to the channel, got to hit that subscribe button. Just means you’re going to get our videos shown to you when they come out, hopefully. I mean, I don’t even know what being subscribed means anymore, but appreciate you. Let me know your thoughts and we’ll see all of you on the next

  1. NONE of our starters played. They were on the sidelines in t shirts doing interviews. I understand the Patriots did play some of their starters. I suppose this is DQ's way of evaluating rookies and those third and fourth on the depth chart and maybe second. Well, even under Joe Gibbs they often didn't do well in preseason.
