Brodie’s Breakdown: Dmitry Orlov
Left shot defenseman Dmitri Orlov signed a two-year contract three days into free agency at the beginning of July. He now becomes the highest value player on San Jose’s Blue Line and not to get ahead of the coaching staff, but will likely play corresponding number one Dman minutes. And being surrounded by fellow incoming veterans like John Clingberg and Nick Ley should definitely help the Sharks shore up some of their defensive issues and onegoal losses from last season. I mean it’s important it’s all about experience all about emotion control your emotions you know and uh it’s come from more games you play more you understand so it’s uh simple that you know and I just make sure everybody believe in each other help each other you know and block some shots you know play smart don’t make risk plays in the certain areas certain ice time how long you get till the game ends you know so All these little things together make a difference and uh you know I think we should be better than last year for sure and I hope so we’re going to get build everything build a organization build a confidence and uh you know it’s going to be interesting for me you know I think I’m older player in the team so it’s kind of going to be good experience for me is now 33 years old he was selected 55th overall by the caps in 2009 he won World Juniors back in 2011 and then won a Stanley Cup with the Caps in 2018. He’s a very known commodity for GMs like Mike Greer. Someone we I’ve kind of always admired. He’s he’s got some bite to him. Um you know, a good puck moving two-way D. Um you know, they’re not they’re not not easy to find. Guys that can impact the game at both ends of the rank. I think he defends hard. Um and just his competitiveness is is um you know what we’re always trying to add to this group. Someone who’s got some competitive fire in them and same thing as uh I think Max Puffy’s won before. So these are all things that we felt were important and um you to bring him in our group and and he’s uh you know he’s a moves a p puck really well too. So I think it’ll help u help us get out of our end and help get the puck up to our forwards and so I’m sure that’ll help our forward group as well. Much as we can look at the stats and the track record of Orlov, who by the way has seen more than 800 games and scored more than 300 points, the real impressive thing are his 10 consecutive playoff appearances between Washington, Boston, and the Canes. Orlov has been a winner and knows what it takes to be a winner and hopefully can help guide a young Sharks group in that same

Very nice addition to the blue line ππΌππΌ.
Always thought Orlov was very underrated on the Caps and Canes π. Let's Go Sharks π¦.
Iβm still brokenhearted about SJ buying out my favorite d man, Vlasic. He was the last player of the dominant Sharks era. He was the best shut down d man in the league for a decade easy. The blue line just wonβt be the same without Pickles π’
On paper, this the is the best two way D for at least the last 5 years or maybe even more
