[Players Choice] Quinn Cook: “Kevin (Durant) wanted Steph to get that Finals MVP the next year so bad… Game 3 we were struggling, Steph was struggling, and Kevin just, like, accidentally walked into 40… He wasn’t even as aggressive, and he just accidentally got the Finals MVP back-to-back.”

  1. Steph was chucking like crazy in Game 4 to try and win FMVP it was kind of embarrassing

  2. …smh *braces for the Stephews creating 10+ posts on r/nba and r/nbatalk discussing gravity and whatever else

  3. This is the goofiest latest offseason discussion haha.

KD got the Finals MVP twice because he was the best player on that team in the Finals, twice. People including KD are now coming out making it a weirder deal than it ever was. We’re not talking about Iggy here, it’s goddamn Kevin Durant.

  4. You could see the Warriors wanted Steph to win the FMVP that year and CLE didn’t want him to. 😝

  5. this is the degree of deck stacking that occurred, that dude was trying to throw a FMVP to someone else ffs

  6. The ’17 and ’18 Finals were so boring that the Warriors had space to think about this dumb shit in real time, lol. Thank God we’ve moved on. ’15 wasn’t bad and ’16 was amazing, but those two were so predictable, obvious, and one-sided (and repetitive with the same teams four years straight) that you didn’t even need to watch. Even when Jordan and the Bulls won six out of eight, there was legitimate doubt and danger in every Finals series., Honestly, from ’91 to ’98, the only terrible Finals was Rockets-Magic in ’95. I’ve never had less interest in a Finals than 2018.

  7. Genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve seen in basketball. It was so damn blatant.

  8. As much as most of yall hate kd, he’s a good guy, unselfish player, and his teammates like playing with him

  9. I remember watching that finals and just thinking “man they’re really force things through Steph, and he just struggles. And here comes KD just shooting over people.”

I remember KD passing up some shots he definitely could easily make.

  10. warriors fans will act like they are unbothered by kd and its totally one sided like they havent been on a revisionist history campaign about these finals for a while now

  11. must be nice to have a team so good that you can try to manipulate who wins fmvp.

“Unfortunately we were somehow in danger of losing a game so KD had to actually try hard and he stole the MVP from Steph”

  12. KD is impossible to guard on a team with Steph Curry on it.

The attempt at legacy boosting is obvious though. Yes, KD was finals MvP. But the ability to score efficiently is not a criticism of KD, so..there isn’t a point here.

  13. It was definitely the ideal scenario for them but KD wasn’t going to slow down to give Steph the mvp. That is ridiculous! It is the NBA finals everyone is playing to win!

  14. Tbh KD absolutely deserved the 17 fmvp and 18 was a coin flip. I’m not upset that KD got it, he was really good that whole series but Steph was also really good. It’s just a question of if they’re both on average equally good do you prefer the consistency of KD or the higher peaks and lower valleys of Steph that series.

  15. And people really thought Steph was better than kd in 2018 when kd’s stats were better across the board and it turns out the dude was actively throwing too

  16. Steph never shows up in the finals it’s just is one major flaw to his legacy. Losing fmvp to iguodala was insane but losing it to KD even when he tried not to get it is comical

  17. Imagine having a roster so powerful, you have the ability to choose the FMVP you want.

  18. I just think it’s funny when ppl say Golden State would of never beat Cleveland again without adding KD and In the same breath want to discredit KD ‘s rings. Yall can’t pick a side

  19. Just how stacked were they being more concerned about who’s winning finals MVP than just winning the finals.

  20. Bron figured the Warriors out then they went and added KD. Does LeBron still go to the Lakers if the Cavs are able to squeak out 1 or 2 more rings?

  21. Posts like these are to bring haters.

Poole might come out tomorrow and say Curry cried in 2022 because he didn’t drop 50 and y’all would lap it up

  22. Him being able to walk into those 40 points is a pretty good example of why Steph was more important to their chances.
