Suns make SNEAKY good move…

The Phoenix Suns just made a sneaky good move as Matt Ishbia and Brian Gregory have added a new addition to Jordan Aunt’s coaching staff. And this one is going to be an amazing one as Mike Muscala is now going to be joining Deari Carol as two former NBA players alongside new head coach Jordan. and Mike Muscala’s game play and his style of play could be very intriguing for how the Suns want to facilitate their new offense and defense under a head coach in Jordan on. So, I’m really excited to break down what this move could mean for the Phoenix Suns and why I think it is a good one. We’ll be diving in and exploring all of this and more on this latest episode of Suns Digest. I’m your host, Bruce Veles. Without further ado, let’s dive in and let’s get into it. As I personally think this is a very cool move for the Phoenix Suns as they go out and they bring in like I mentioned Mike Muccala as he is going to be an assistant head coach according to Michael A. Scott from Hoops Hype. And after 11 NBA seasons with teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers, Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, and Detroit Pistons. Muscala becomes a coach at the age of 34. The Sun’s new head coach, Jordan Au, worked with Mike Muscala back in Atlanta, and I think this is very cool to see for Mike Muscala. I’m intrigued to see what this means for the Suns as they have now added Mike Muscala and Deari Carroll to Jordan Aut’s coaching staff and I think this could be very fun. We also saw that Jordan Au worked with Mike Muscala in Atlanta, he also worked with Deari Carroll over in Brooklyn, not only as a player but also us alongside with him with him as a coach. And Deari Carroll said that he really liked what Jonat was able to do to help him translate his game to be a little bit better in the later stages of his career. And clearly he already has some attachment with him and Jordan already has some a good attachment with Mike Muscala. This is great to see. Not only for the fact that we have former NBA players, guys who have experience and know what they’re doing out there on the NBA floor to mentor our now youth projects and younger guys. But I think that the Suns getting youthful in that coaching department is also beneficial. Them trying to get guys who can relate to these players more and bring that out of them is great to see. But not only just that, Jordan Aunt, if he’s getting former players like Deari Carroll and Mike Muscala to come back to him and coach with him or, you know, coach now with him after years being away from him, that just goes to show you that Jordan has great relationships with his players when he’s coaching them. Something the Suns haven’t had the last couple of seasons with guys like Mike Benhoer, Frank Vogle, and Monty Williams. And I do think that this coaching hire, even though it wasn’t that home run splashy big name, is going to be the one that I’ve said from the beginning. One that is going to help the Suns change that new identity and help them turn that leaf to get into their next phase and how they want to restructure their team now. They don’t want to be this big three juggernaut. They want to play as a cohesive unit, play on both sides of the floor. And I think this addition of Mike Muscala and Deari Carroll is going to help that. Specifically with Mike Muscala when you’re looking at this roster and looking at what the Suns have already experimented with Jordan A saying that he wants to play a little bit more defensively, aggressively, and potentially run some double big lineups and seeing what we’ve seen from Deari Carroll as well at the summer league with the Phoenix Suns using these double big lineups, utilizing Malawatch and Oso Gdaro and using them to shoot three-pointers. I think adding a guy in Mike Muscala who is known for being an offensive shooting big is going to be key for this roster. It’s going to allow Jordan Au to feel a little bit more comfortable, right? He was assistant coach last year with the Cleveland Cavaliers and his main goal was to develop Evan Mobley. And not only was Jordan not able to help Evan Mobley be solid on the defensive end, winning that defensive player of the year, it was also to help Evan Mobley translate his offensive game, help him be more of a three-point weapon and to get that consistency down a little bit more, able to stretch out that floor and be a better shooter. That’s what allowed Evan Mobley to be this transcendent big. Now, what we’re seeing with the Phoenix Suns is they now had that and want to build that within this team. They want that shot blocking, rim protecting big, but also Jordan said he’s going to bring some of his schemes over from Cleveland. We already know Devin Booker, Jaylen Green, kind of similar guard back court. I expect some lineups maybe not starting, but throughout the season to see some double big lineups as we’ve already seen it like I mentioned in the summer league. We already seen it from Deari Carroll and I think that we will see it now with adding Mike Muscala into this rotation as a coach to help develop that and to bring out guys like Kama Malawatch to be a better three-point shooter as we saw in the summer league. He was trying to get comfortable with learning that. I think we’re going to see that utilized a little bit more. The Suns have also wanted a stretch big for so long, dating back to the last couple seasons where they said Ysef Nerk was going to be this dominant stretch big and getting better at his jump shot. Clearly, that didn’t happen with Bogle. It didn’t happen with Benhoser. So, now the Suns want to find that in one of these other bigs. Maybe it is Oso Agaro getting a little bit better from the three-point line, being able to maybe transition into a power forward there for the Suns. Maybe it is common Malawatch developing a three-point shot and turning into that a little bit of an Evan Moley type build up that shot blocking rim to turn, but also someone who can stretch the floor and be an offensive beast from beyond the arc. Or maybe it is Mark Williams, the guy that they took the flyer on at the draft pro at the draft uh this year, trading away obviously two future first round picks to bring in Mark Williams. He’s dealt with some injuries. Maybe since he’s had a good free throw opportunities and been a solid free throw point shooter, he could develop a little bit of a mid-range and maybe even a decent three-pointer as well. Obviously, Mike Muscala coming in is going to be that guy that’s going to help develop that side of the floor. And I think that’s something that not only the Suns have wanted, but they desperately do need specifically alongside Devin Booker and Jaylen Green. Having the ability to have a a big that could stretch the floor, be able to run out the three-point line, maybe even be able in a little bit of a pick and pop action would be crazy for the Phoenix Suns and something that they haven’t had or Deon Booker hasn’t had in his realistically career here with this team. When there were rumors about Chris Porzingis, a lot of Suns fans were interested in it to have that ability of a stretch pick with this team. Now you obviously have not Christophs Porzingis but Malawatch’s potential to do that. Oso Gardaro’s potential to do that. Maybe Mark Williams’ potential to bring that out and they have now a veteran, someone who has had that experience with knowing that similar skill set in the NBA to do so. I absolutely love this. I think this screams a great hire, not only for the fact that it can help develop what the Suns want to build with their new identity, but it also proves that Jordan has great relationships with his former players. if he can get two from two different teams to come on and be on his coaching staff. I absolutely love this for the Phoenix Suns. Deari Carol, Mike Muscawa, Jordan bringing this relationship together and I think Jordan is going to be a better have better relationships, excuse me, within this youth development with these younger players. Devin Booker obviously really liked Jordan in the interviewing process and this was something that was a little bit of a distraction and disruption last season. So if the Suns can fix that a little bit, really get locked in to what they want to achieve this season as a team, as a cohesive unit, not as individuals, I do think that this team can be maybe a little bit better than some people expect and maybe take that leap and get out of this little bit of quicksand or dust in a quicker time. Thank you guys so much for tuning into this video. Let me know your thoughts on the hiring of Mike Muscala personally, even though he doesn’t have a lot of coaching experience. He is an assistant head coach and is a former NBA player who can have good relationships with those guys and has an understanding of the game. It’s not like a regular Joe Schmo like me coming in and going to be the head coach. It is Mike Muscala, someone who has excelled in this league for 11 seasons. So, thank you guys so much for tuning in. Like I said, let me know your thoughts on this signing. I personally like it. I think it’s going to be something that definitely could help out the development of some of these players, definitely in that front court, which the Suns desperately need. But thank you guys. Have a great rest of your day and go Phoenix Suns.
