Vintage Performance | Pasquantino’s Big Night Leads to Series Win

And now Michael Walka who over his last two starts has given up runs in the first inning and then nothing after that against the Blue Jays and the Red Sox and no walks. How about no walks against his last 63 hitters. Set to face James Wood. Tall left-handed swinging left fielder. So a four-game streak. Six RBI’s over that time. 02 pitch trying to drop a dip and he will and it’s a fivegame hitting streak for James with eight base hits. Last night CJ Abrams struck out in his first three at bats. Back to the middle. Junior is right there. 63 two down in the top of the first inning. So that turns the inning around and up comes Josh Bell who homerred in the first inning last night. One ball, no strikes, and now a chopper to second base. India to his left, but he makes the play. And down go the Nationals. Washington nothing. Royals coming up. And starting pitcher for the Nats tonight, 25-year-old left-hander Mitchell Parker from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Start number 24. 7 and 12 record. Outside leadoff walk for Muel Garcia. That puts a guy with speed on base. And now Bobby Win Jr. And he’s going and it’s tapped out in front of the mound. Parker didn’t get a great grip. And Mikel Garcia goes first to third. So terrific base running by Garcia. So that forces the Nationals to bring their infield in with Vinnie Pasquantino coming up. Vinnie 0 for four last night. And there’s the fly ball. It’s to left field and should be deep enough making the catch as wood. Here comes the runner home and the throw is offline and one to nothing Royals. Michael Walka has two outs on five pitches in the second. So runner at first, two down for Dalen Lyall. Backhanded stop of a sharp ground ball ends the inning. One hit, one left. Royals coming up. Bottom of the second, leading one to nothing. Two down, base is empty. One- nothing Royals. Long at bat here for Frasier. This will be the ninth pitch. The 3-2 swinging a miss. He struck him out. High fast ball at 94. So both innings tonight, Parker has finished with a strikeout. And after two, one- nothing Kansas City. Third inning, Luis Garcia Jr. will lead off. Michael Waka delivers to Luis Garcia Jr. He bunts the first pitch toward third. Garcia bare hand pickup. Throw to first in time to get him. A terrific play from Mike Hill Garcia to start the top of the third. That is a very quick one, two, three inning for Michael Waka. He goes through all three of the Nationals lefties in that inning. And we go to the bottom of the third. Royals one Nationals nothing. And Garcia takes high. That’s ball four. He’s on base for a second time tonight with his second walk of the night. So, a two-out base runner for the Royals. And that brings up Bobby Whit Jr. The pitch. Whit bounces it back up the middle. Garcia slides, gets it on the backand, bounces the throw to first. Not nearly in time. Whit saved with an infield single. And the Royals have two on with two out. And that’s their first hit. And another chance for Vinnie. The drive in a run. First pitch to Vinnie Pasquentino. And he lines it down the right field line toward the corner and gone. Just over the fence in the right field corner. A first pitch, threerun ambush home run from Vinnie Pasquantino. Pasquatch looking for that first good heater. The Royals take a four nothing lead in the bottom of the third inning. Top of the fourth inning. Base is empty. Two outs. Laka has been cruising so far tonight. He’s only given up two hits, both singles. He has not allowed a member of the Nationals to even reach second base. Payoff pitch to D. Young. Fast ball swung on and miss. Strike three. Michael Waka has got his first strikeout and he’s now through four scoreless innings tonight at Kaufman Stadium. Randle Gridic leads off the bottom of the fourth inning. Parker rocks and kicks. 3 0 swung on and hit in the air by Gritic to center. Back is Hassel leaping at the fence and he pulls it back in. What a catch. Robert Hassel the third climbs the wall and brings it back in. A spectacular leaping catch by the national center fielder Robert Hassel the third. He goes over he pulls it back. What an absolute robbery by Robert Hassel the third. Parker has his second. One two3 inning. The end of four Kansas City four Washington. Michael Waka is at it again. He is on cruise control and certainly has been lately. Three and two on low. Walk kicks and delivers and away and a miss at a fast ball up and he strikes him out. So he goes upstairs, gets the job done, striking out his second on the night. And here’s Riley Adams, the right-handed hitting catcher. 1-1 swing a ground ball toward the whole left side. That’s another base hit for Adams. Had the most recent Nationals hit. Now the next Nationals hit. So Mikel puts it away. And there’s the second out of this Washington fifth inning. Here is Luis Garcia Jr. He was out trying to bunt for a hit. He will rock one into right. That’s fair. These are deep corners here. Riley Adams heading for third. He will score easily. Garcia heading easily to third. Ditch a triples ballpark down the line here and the Nets are on the board with Garcia’s 51st of the year as Garcia with an RBI triple into the right field corner. That’s on the board. It’s 4-1 Kansas City. Bottom of the fifth inning. Nick Loftton, Tyler Tolbert, and Mikel Garcia coming up against Mitchell Parker. The 1-1 swing a line drive toward right center field. He’ll chant it that way as Hassel into a dive. He’s got it. A diving backhanded catch for Hassel. He’s everywhere in center field tonight. He’s robbed a homer. Now he robs Loftton on a diving catch. We go to the sixth in Kansas City. The Royals four and the Nationals won. Now Walk’s CJ Abrams who’s 0 for two. Abrams stays back and skies one to right center. It’s in the air for a long, long time. It’s up against the wall. CJ is already at second and with ease he will cruise into third base. Triple number five tonight. Bell has grounded a second and popped to short. Two low fast ball missing. Ball four and Bell has drawn another walking. The runner at first, a runner at third, one out and Paul D. Young coming up. Now the pitch and D Young swings and skies it in the air. Left center field shallow coming on. Tolbert the center fielder out is the shortstop wid and he dropped the ball. So now Abrams breaks for the plate. throw to second and Bell was going to get forced out, but Abrams comes in to score. It’s now the Royals four, the Nationals two. Well, the bottom of the sixth inning. Conor Pilgington is in the game the 10 time this season. Lead off walk is still there with two outs and that’ll bring up Randall Gritick. He delivers and Gritic punches it down the right field line. That’s a fair ball skittering into the corner. Wick can fly. He’s around second. He hits third. Wilson waves him home. No throw with scores standing opposite field. An RBI double from Randall Grinching. The Royals extend their lead. It’s 5-2. Runner on second with two down for Jonathan India. Now the pitch. India drives it high in the air deep to left. Wood gives it a look. It’s out of here into the Nationals bullpen. A two-run bomb from Jonathan India. Add two more to the Royals tally. It’s seven to2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sam Long got the final out in the sixth. He stays on for the seventh. It’s a two out infield hit for Hassel. Back to the top of the lineup and lefty James Wood. And Wood will drill one to left. That’s going to plug the gap and that will get Hassel home it appears. Here he comes. And it’s a 73 ball game. Here’s CJ Abrams breaking ball right side base hit. Here comes Wood. The Nets putting up a battle here and it’s 74 in the seventh. Runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Ascentino hit a three-run homer back in the third inning. Also had a sack fly in the first inning. Here’s the pitch. Fast ball ripped down the right field line. Hooking toward the corner off the wall. It bounced back into right field. Tolbert’s in to score. Pasquantino pulls into second with an RBI double. He’s driven in five tonight and he extends the lead in the bottom of the seventh. It’s 8 to four. Royals will bring on their fourth pitcher of the night. Right-hander Taylor Clark to take over in the eighth. Young at second with two down for right fielder Dalen Lyle. There’s a ball drilled down the right field line. Coming around third, Paul de Young. And the Nets continue to hang around here. It’s eight to five. Ninth inning. Royals leading 85. So it’s Urs coming on to pitch for the Royals. And they’re two down in the ninth inning. Eers gets the sign and in comes the 1-1 pitch and a fly ball into short center field and over comes the center fielder. Isbel makes the play to end the game. So a very quick and efficient ninth inning. Royals have made it two straight over Washington. Final score 85.

Vinnie Pasquantino had a monster night, driving in five runs to back Michael Wacha and give the Royals a series win over the Nationals!
