Nationals vs. Royals Game Highlights (8/13/25) | MLB Highlights

And here’s Seth Lugo who has been very tough on right hand batters this year and there is only one right hand batter in the Nationals lineup today. There’s a great swing by wood taking one the other way. Can you say six game hitting streak with 10 base, a two hit game including a triple and an RBI last night. Here’s the pitch and Abrams wanted to swing checks his swing of the ball up and hill head down to first base with a four pitch walk. So the Nationals have things pretty well set up. So now it’s Luis Garc-a, the next pitch, there’s a ground ball, Then he’s going to go to second for the force out throw back to first wisely held by wit and so Josh Bell draws a walk to load the bases. So uncharacteristically, Lugo with two walks. First four batters take advantage big spot for Nathaniel Lowe. This is a tough matchup for sev , given how his season has gone. The left handed hitters have had a lot more success against him and the Nationals have a ton of left handed hitters in the lineup. Today, we had a fly ball deep right field back toward the corner and this is a grand slam. See you later, Nathaniel Lowe. It is Lowe’s first career grand slam. It’s the nationals first grand slam since April of last year. And the nationals with one swing take a 40 lead. Here in the top of the first. Here’s the pitch, a line drive for Lyle and a base hit to right center field, Isbell cuts it off in the alley. Lyle will turn and hold with a single. Here’s Drew Millis hitting catcher batting at 324 in his limited big league time. A fly ball well hit right center field for Millis chasing back Yrs. He can’t get to it. This one bounces on the warning track and off the top of the wall. Lyles tearing around third, he’s going to score and Drew Millis stops at second with a booming RBI double to right center. The Nationals have five on the board here in the top of the first inning. It’s 50. Command wise, what he’s been trying to do is pitch away away away from all of these left handed hitters. And when he’s missed arms side, he’s fallen behind in the count. And Then when he’s trying to get back into the count, he’s missing over the middle of the plate. And that’s where the nationals have been feasting fly ball right field, but right at Mumsy who makes the play and the inning is over the 66 right. Jake Irvin coming off a start in San Francisco were early, not great but found a way to finish strong five and one third innings. Eight hits, two home runs given up five to nothing. Your team just handed you a five run lead and your answer is a four pitch walk. Bobby has three hits and two walks in this series and reaching and he pokes it out into left center field and that will drop for a hit and the Royals have two on with nobody out. The Royals are in business up comes Pasquin and one night he had last night five RBS and that bounces away from Millis and now put two runners in scoring position. Vinny gets a little more excited but he’s happy to be up there another run producing opportunity, ground ball to second. That would be a double play but instead it’s just an out at first STRS scores. Witt goes second to third. It’s 5 to 1. Washington 1st and 3rd and now he’ll have to deal with Frazier. Adams batting average, 267 grounded left side and Frazier comes through with two outs and the Royals get two runs back. He’s the last guy you want to have up in a situation like that. Those guys will peck you to death and foul off all those pitches and wait for a little cookie 1 to 2 from Irvin fastball. Popped him up right side. Nathaniel Lowe looking up into the high sky drifts to foul and makes the catch of the pop up. The inning comes to a close leadoff single four pitch walk and Irvin has walked three and all three walks have been on four straight pitches. The Royals in business as the lineup turns over to mike Jastremski in the leadoff spot on the hands. Slow hopper. So Lowe has one play but a productive out for the Royals moving Rave to third is Bell to second. Rave to third and is second. Now N is at the plate right field base hit Rave scores. Isbell didn’t get a great read. He will advance to third but it’s a two run game on Bobby Wood Jrs second hit. The tying runs are on base. Here’s the cat and mouse game here, Pa Quentin looking to elevate for at least one RB I Jake Irvin trying to get him on the ground. He has hit into eight double plays this year grounded right side low backhands. He throws to second for one Abrams to Irvin at the bag for the much needed double play. 361 and one pitch. After the mound visit, Irvin Jogs off the mound with a 361 double play. The Royals are down 5 to 3 in the top of the third inning. Both pitchers have struggled vitally with their, that puts runners on 1st and 2nd with one out for right handed hitting Brady House and a bouncer right through. There will come around to score Miller stops behind him and the Nats will add at least one on here. And Brady House Cashes in RB I number 19, the Nats on top 63, Robert Hassell the third who fly to right field his first time up. Here’s the pitch curveball lined in the right field. Yastrzemski Darts in slides makes the catch. He took away a hit from Hassell , a taste of his own medicine after yesterday. That’s a big second out for Lugo here in the third inning and Lugo’s already at 80 pitches today. The one slur loop down the right field line. Yastrzemski angles over reaches out, makes the catch thigh high inning. Couple of nice grabs from Mike Yastrzemski helps get Seth Lugo two of the three outs in the inning runners on 1st and 3rd. Now for Kansas City, here’s Jonathan India. Can jake Irvin spin another double play ball. The pitch swinging a bouncing ball left side House to his left hand to second for one. Garcia to first to a stretching low. It’s a double play to end the inning. We’ll see as the Royals look to challenge, see if they will. I think they had him in time and they will not challenge. It’s an inning ending around the horn 543, double play started by Brady House National six Royals three and CJ Abrams will lead it off for Lugo. He’s now thrown 82 pitches 44 for strikes. He gets under one right field line fair or foul cu later for CJ number 16 and that is inside the foul pole. And CJ Abrams puts Washington in front 7 to 3. Not sure if Lugo probably wouldn’t say, but he’s definitely having some fatigue issues, in my opinion. Long season this time of year, some guys sometimes get a little dead arm syndrome and he just not locating his pitches like he used to breaking ball hit in the air straight away right field. Mike Yastrzemski is underneath it. He drifts to his right. He makes the catch and that ends the inning. So Lugo allows a leadoff homer again, Then gets the next three without too much issue and it will be two on two up for Pasquin. It’s up to the Royals to capitalize and Pasquin steps to the plate to right and the Royals trail by one on Vinny’s second three run home run of the series. He’s got four RBIs today and the Royals are down 7 to 6 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Eight combined walks and one hit batter between the first four innings. And so stu we go to the fifth, the Royals have made a pitching change. They trail 7 to 6 and Daniel Lynch, the fourth is on the bone , the pitch line drive sharply hit to left field for a base hit. So Brady House has two hits plus a hard line out. Good to see House after a couple of days off, get locked in and make solid contact. The batter now has first pitches , high runner goes off, first throw to second in time. Bobby lays the tag on House. He says not in my House. He throws him out that ends the inning and Daniel Lynch puts up a zero bullpen has given up six runs in this series. So far, Connor Pilkington will get the call here. Now the pitch home fastball strike three called at the knees and now rei will contest the call with ryan added to the home plate umpire. So a leadoff won and now a hit better runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out for Bobby Witt Juniors been on baseball three times today. Now the pitch swung on hit of the year to right field deep. Lyle, moving back has a play now onto the edge of the track on the track makes the catch both runners throw heading to second , not in time, Cole Henry on the pitch big spot facing by garcia , the Royals clean up hitter with runners 2nd and 3rd 2 out bottom of the sixth inning for his pitch. Swung on and hit in the air to left field. Playable for James Wood back a couple of steps drifting to his left, he puts it away and Cole Henry throws one pitch batter now will be Jonathan India, the the first base line, a spinner pass Lowe, it sneaks down the line into foul territory. A fair ball and flies around first as helmet comes off, he’s in his second with a two out double Henry to the belt kicks it. Here it comes, swing and a miss , he struck him out with a curveball and the inning is over. Nice job by Cole Henry. That’s his first strikeout. But the Royals have the tying run at second base and that Bobby Witt with two singles pitch there goes Tolbert to third strike is called and no throw to third base. So Tolbert has stolen second and now third, I mean, Tolbert has 29 at bats and he has 17 steals. So now is just a fly ball deep enough to the outfield and to right center field and now a battle for who wants it. And Hassell cuts in front of his right fielder and to slide in with the tying run, a game tying sac fly, the Nationals lead is gone. It’s the nationals seven and the Royals seven bringing Luis Garc-a Jr hitless with a walk and four plate appearances. A ball hit out to the gap and left center twisting its weight away from Tolbert. The new center fielder Luis Garc-a will check in second hit of the series and a one for four salvage with a walk a little earlier the rookie day and lile to the play big spot for him, see if he can poke one through and bring in garcia fires a line drive right field line that’s down for a base hit. The Nationals will take the lead. Garcia scores Lowe stops at second day. Lyle delivers a go ahead RB I single in the top of the ninth against a reliever with 30 saves on the season nationals in front 8 to 7. So Randall will get his shot with the tying run at first. He represents the winning run with the nationals in front 87 and that’s a in and out of his glove and that gets India to third. Abrams raced out, raced out, dove headlong toward James Wood , the left fielder who was just out of his reach. Heck of an effort but a pop fly single at the big league at bats , he’s hit 2 41 7 hits with a home run at third winning run at first and a ground ball to short Abrams on the charge out at second game over and the Nats salvage one, Dalen Lyle, the winning hit Jose Ferrer nails down the win.

  1. Every sense we resigned Seth lugo he has sucked we would of won this game if he didt give up that grand slam and if we didt ground into a double play twice with 1st and 3rd but still let’s go sweep the whitesox and take 2 out of 3 from the tigers and then sweep the whitesox again
