New York Islanders Trading Card Wall Series: Josh Bailey

Is there literally everyone who has played one
game has a card on here? That’s pretty cool. Timmy Jackman, great guy. We roomed together on the road. He used to
call me Little Cub. He took care of me.
He was, he was awesome. Obviously, Oky. I mean, tons of good memories
with Oky playing here. Still great friends today. He was,
he was always kind of an old soul. Even when we were younger, he was, he was the guy
bringing the paper in the morning. He’d have his crossword and his coffee,
even at 20 years old, so. Dougie Weight. One of the best. He was one of those guys I mentioned, for sure that I knew he had my back
and kind of funny playing with him, then he was the assistant coach,
then he was our head coach. But we’ve always had a great relationship. It was it was kind of weird for me
because I was always really into hockey but as I was like a teenager,
he was a big time name. And I remember getting drafted. They flew me in to do some press
conference thing and it was him, Billy Guerin, and myself. And I must, I probably said
two words, I was so nervous. Chimer. Jason Chimera. Awesome teammate. Hilarious guy. Jokingly, we’d call him the Ice Cheetah because he was so fast. He was like 38 years old flying around. We had some good battles with him I remember when he was in Washington,
we were playing them it was in the playoffs for sure. And, I was never a guy that was really chirping a lot,
but I remember the one game he had done something
and he was coming by the bench and there was like four or five of us, can’t really use all the words but we
were calling them an old you know what. And he was, he didn’t like it too much. But getting to know him after was,
was a lot of fun. He was, he was great. I mean, I feel like I keep repeating
myself, but I mean, all these guys, you’re hard pressed to find one
bad guy on this wall, at least that I know. And one of my favorites, Johnny Boychuk. I don’t,
I don’t have many pictures in my phone for for contacts, but I had to put
the one of Johnny on there. So when that pops up it usually
brings a smile to my face. I think now being done playing, that’s the thing I really take away from
everything is all these relationships and friendships. And, he’s certainly
one that will be a friend for life, so.

Josh Bailey Reflects on His Legacy at the Islanders Trading Card Wall.

As part of a special moment at UBS Arena, longtime New York Islander Josh Bailey was invited to view the newly unveiled Trading Card Wall, a striking installation that features every player in franchise history. Standing before his own trading card among the 586 players represented, Bailey took a quiet moment to reflect—and then shared stories from his remarkable 15-season journey in the blue and orange.

Bailey’s eyes lit up as he spotted familiar names and faces—teammates, mentors, and friends who shaped his career. From his NHL debut in 2008 as a fresh-faced 19-year-old, to his unforgettable playoff overtime winners and leadership as an alternate captain, Bailey recalled pivotal memories that defined his time with the Islanders.

“It’s surreal,” Bailey said, taking in the wall. “To see all these names, to be part of that history—it means a lot. You remember the games, sure, but it’s the locker room moments, the fans, the friendships—that’s what sticks with you.”

Fans watching Bailey’s reaction witnessed not just nostalgia, but genuine pride and humility from a player who gave everything to the team. The Trading Card Wall isn’t just a tribute to statistics—it’s a symbol of legacy, and Josh Bailey’s place on it is well-earned.
