Khaman Maluach speaks on his Summer League debut | Phoenix Suns Media Availability
under your belt. Just your thoughts on the first one, the first first summer league game and how’d you feel out there? I mean, it felt great being back playing out of five basketball game. Um, well, I was excited to be out there, especially with this group of guys and I had to figure everything out and it’s a new game. It’s a new playing style. It’s a professional game. More spacing different from college and I’m still figuring everything out. What’d you learn today? I mean, it’s just like different spacing and it’s really quick decisions. It’s like you have like half a split second like to make a decision right away. Coach was saying he’s going to keep encouraging you to shoot the ball off and you got some corner threes off early, finally knocked down a three at the end. Just how are you viewing that aspect of your game being able to shoot that? I mean I mean shots didn’t fall in the beginning of the game and it’s just like I can’t control that. I can’t control miss shots. So, I didn’t think about it much and I just kept on shooting. Also, set you up at the end there. What’s it like to play with is great to play with also cuz it makes my job easier. I know also has my back, but I have his back. So, it’s like it’s easier and he makes my job easier to play. Were there any nerves at the start of the game? Did they calm down as the game went along? I mean, I didn’t really have no nerves cuz uh I’m I’m confident in myself. Um uh I watched a lot during pregap with Chris Johnson and Cory with clutch and just hoops. So I watched a lot. I know how much work I put in. So I wasn’t nervous about going when I thought about that. Your coach really praised your backline communication defense. Is that something that you’ve always had since you started playing well or actually kind of like that just how you naturally are? Uh man, it’s it’s it also has it probably has something has to do with my personality too because I like talking off the basketball court. So probably that’s why it translates on the basketball. How important is that for the center and that that backline communicator? I mean it’s it’s important like me talking to my teammates, let them know that I have them their back, I got that back. Um and it’s important too for them to talk to me while I’m on that island alone. So it goes the other way and it goes all the way too. How did it feel to put on the uniform, the Sun uniform, NBA uniform, and kind of have that dream become a reality? I mean, it’s a proud moment for me. Um, I feel blessed to be at this step with my jersey number, St. Phoenix Suns. So, I’m just I’m blessed. What was it like to have all the guys come come to see you guys play? Obviously, Dylan, Jaylen, Mark Williams, all sitting there watching you guys point out. I mean, it’s great to have our vets sit outside and watch us. And we’ll probably go back to the hotel later and they’ll give us some feedback on what they think and um tell us more and keep on teaching us and keep on guiding us. See more threes on Sunday. Is that the plan? I mean, if I’m wide open, I’ll shoot them. Come on. What’s it meant for you guys to have Ryan go so around the experience of a big leader? I mean, it’s it’s good to have them like a great guy. This is their second year, so they’re going to guide us through everything cuz they went we’re going to go through the same thing they went through last year. So, they have more experience than us playing in NBA games. So, it’s good to have them around so that they direct us. What do you think is the best piece of last one you got from both of those guys or any of the veterans on the team? I mean both of them both of them always tell me be you Ryan told me to be in the middle of the game also told me be you told me control what you can control 98% always keep that in my mind so how do you feel that the defensive side I mean it felt great uh being out there and knowing that also had my back too and knowing that if I got big also Some of Oso’s past teammates though call him annoying in the past. Would you would you agree with that? I don’t think he’s annoying. I doubt I doubt I don’t know. He’s such a great guy. So whatever is probably You’re a good teammate. You’re a really good teammate. Appreciate it. I saw.
Phoenix Suns top pick Khaman Malauch notched a well played game in the team’s 103-84 win over the Washington Wizards at Summer League. Khaman’s statline included 14 PTS, 5 REB, 2 BLK.

He is 18 yrs old! He had some shaky and some very nice moments. So glad you are here.
Heโll need some time to develop but potential is there. Good thing we have centers on the roster while he gets better
I love this kid. Heโs observant, humble, and knows what heโs gotta do. Thatโs how I feel about him.
