Detroit Pistons 2025 Offseason Recap – Is the Rebuild Finally Over?
Hey everyone. So today we’re be doing another NBA offseason grade and today we’ll be doing the Detroit Pistons. Do they do good this off seasonason? Do they do bad? Are they a playoff team once again or not? So let’s get started. So the first thing we’ll be talking about is major moves and additions. So the Pistons made a lot of moves which very impressive because we don’t really see the Pistons make moves during the off season. Well, pretty much at all. And it’s really rare, but this offseason they shook it up a lot. And uh this is what they did. Sign and trade for Duncan Robinson. Acquired Duncan Robinson from Miami. Uh sign and trade sending Simon, I can’t pronounce last name. In return, he uh they add Elite Shooting to help space the floor. Sing guard Caris Levert. Levert joined on a two-year $29 million deal, giving Detroit a crafty playmaker and scorer aimed uncertainly around Malik Beasley, which we’ll talk about him really soon, drafted Chaz uh Laneir, Laneir, my apologies, number 37th in the NBA draft. The Pistons picked sharpshooter Chaz in the second round. Uh a targeted addition who was impressed in workouts and could contribute right away. and they resigned. Paul Reed, kept their defensive minded based on a 12 on a two-year deal to maintain frontline death. Can’t believe I almost said 12-year deal. That would never happen. Uh well, if you’re an all-star, uh added two-way death uh back their def uh back their development pipeline by signing two-way contract with Dennis Jenkins and Colby Jones while waving Ron Harper Jr. Let’s go over there. This is my thought on this. I’m going to say that I like the fact he bring Duncan Robertson a really good three-point shooter. Yes, last year and the year before Miami wasn’t the best, but when he gets going, he gets going. And I think he will need, you know, a new scenery. He was drafted in Miami. You know, he’s been there mostly his whole career and I think him having a new scenery will help him with his career. Uh, so I think adding him to the Pistons roster will help not only him but I think the Pistons as well because as you know Malik be uh Beasley might be on the team anymore and that’s why they brought in Caris Levert. I think Eddie Levert’s a little bit of a gamble kind of not really but like he is somewhat of injuryrone type of player but when healthy he is pretty good. Uh we just got to see if maybe he’ll play mostly all this season. Who knows? Uh the draft that they got, Chad Laneier, heard a little bit about him. Uh you know, I just don’t know about him. I’m not sure if he’s going to be starting. I highly doubt it. Think he might be bench player more likely. Maybe, you know, the end of the bench. If that’s the case, he’s definitely going to be on the team, not in the G- League for sure. Reign Paul Reed, solid uh frontline death. Definitely need uh defensive players. Uh, and then you got two-way death on some of these other players. So, um, not bad. Not not bad. I feel like, you know, they had to shake up the roster because of Millie Beasley and I think they want to add one more key player, but Malik Beasley was kind of the reason why I think the Pistons made these move. Next, the departure and unsettled situation. Malik Beasley deal fall through. negotiate collapsed after Beasley became entangled in a federal gamble gambling investigation Detroit with due potential $42 million offer uh traded Dennis Sher uh sent Dennis Sher to uh Sacramento in a signing trade deal that brought back a $14.2 million trade exception and a 2026 second round pick and let go uh this one other player Hardway Jr. and shoulder and waiters. The third these exit trim rotation minutes and open financial flexibility. So pretty much let’s talk about Malik Beasley. This one is the reason why they brought in Duncan Robinson and Caris Liver. They add they wanted to add more uh snipers on the team so that they’re able to still keep that three-point mojo going on. That’s what Malik Beasley brought to the team which was awesome. but gambling investigation he’s in right now which is nothing to play with. You see a lot of these players in the MLB and the NF I don’t know about the NFL but MLB and NBA are getting in trouble. You saw I think a year or two ago, three years ago, a former Toronto Raptor player got banned from life on gambling. Then you got two MLB uh relief pictures and closures like both of them are relief pitcher. Uh class A if I’m right and another player are right now being investigated by the MLB and it seemed like there definitely might be banned for life for sure because they’re both seem like they’re connected in this. So Malik Beasley seemed like he’s been betting on NBA games this past season and it looks like more likely he’s not be back on the team anymore. update. By the way, it’s going to be four or five days later, three days later when I post this video. Just know that three or four or five days before this, uh, today pretty much Malise Beasley could not pay his rent and he was evicted out of his apartment. Yeah. So, I don’t get it. You’re a million dollar ball player and you’re gambling and you’re just you can’t pay your rent now. It’s ridiculous. But hey, everyone grew up differently. Everyone, you know, see money, they don’t know what to do with it. Hey, but how can you not pay your apartment? That’s the crazy part. You’re a million dollar player. Very interesting. Uh but yeah, we have that. I can go on and on about Malise Beasley, but it’ll be a different story uh later on if this all settles out next week or the week after or so on. traded Dennis Sher. Uh, this one is a little bit interesting because I like Dennis Sher on the Pistons. He brought some grit, some defense, some good playmaking, but for some reason the Pistons didn’t want to keep him. So, but they got some money back. So, they were able to sign Caris and Duncan Robertson on top of the whole Beasley situation uh because the extra money that they got back and then they let go some of the players. Hardway Jr., I’m a little bit shocked. I feel like Harway Jr. He he was so good like in the beginning beginning of his prime. I feel like he was just a really good shifty player and for some reason teams are just passing him along like you know like you’re passing along you know I’m not going to say I can’t say cuz the YouTube guideline but it’s like how you get rid of a player like him but he does have some consistent moments injuries a little bit maybe shifted his career a little bit but I mean you got to let go him and two or three other players in order to get extra tremendous opening up for other players as well as financial flexibility which is another key reason why they’re able to sign Duncan and Levert. Um now uh strategistic uh I can’t pronounce it as you see overview I can’t pronounce it I’m sorry smart measured approach front office are continually trying to uh have internal development over a risky splash move building around youth with Kate Cunningham at the center uh piece of the franchise Pistons at around their core Ivy Durant without you know pretty much ruining the chemistry Capsavvy execution, no major financial uh over extension, cap space uh focus for internal balance rather than star chase 100%. Now, final take is that the Pistons 2025 offseason wasn’t flashy, but it was smart, which I agree. They retained core stability both around their franchise young nucleiers and added interesting teeth to boost shooting and death. While missing on Millie Beley was a setback, the team stayed disciplined, keeping development and cap health and focus. It’s steady progress, not grand leaps. Uh I like this a lot for the Pistons. So this is my whole thought about the Pistons offseason. Like I said, I agree. It’s not a splashy off seasonason for Detroit, but it’s a smart off season because Malik Beasley, if it wasn’t for you, my guy, I think they would have done all this extra stuff. They would done a little bit a little bit extra, but they wouldn’t have done the whole roster shake up. Now, if he was if he was on the team still and didn’t have to have all this issue, I think they would have done a little bit extra. maybe added another like a little bit of a star power, but you can see it. You can see in them that they have potential to be a really good playoff team. Um, now it’s kind of it’s kind of iffy with the Pistons. I can’t really give you because it it the reason why is that you’re taking a team that was competitive last year who did really good who shocked the whole world and now you’re trying to think all right are they going to be the same team as last year or are they going to be a little bit different because Malik Basley was like the guy that pretty much helped the team with the whole chemistry part. Now, without Beasley, we’re not we’re not sure. You know, I’m not going to say Durant and Ivy and other guys are not going to be that chemistry guy, but Beasley when he came in, he changed a lot. So, now let’s talk about are there going to be a playoff team once again or no? Um, wow. Like I said, it’s a little bit tricky without Beasley. We’re not sure Duncan Robertson can be back in his old form. We’re not sure if Caris Levert will be the same player he once was. um a playoff team/play team. I’m not really sure what’s going to happen because, you know, a lot of times when a player gets into a situation like this, it can sometimes ruin the chemistry of the whole team. But we’re not sure how big of an impact Beasley, you know, had on the team. So, if Beasley off the team right now doesn’t hurt them, then definitely a playoff team. If it does hurt them, then a play team more likely. Like I said, the East is wide open. The Pistons have a chance to be in the playoffs, but without Beasley, it might be a little bit of an iffy because of the two players they added, we’re not sure if we feel confident in them to being what they should be for the team. Now, grade of this offseason, A being really good, F being the worst. I am going to say I’m going to give them a D. Once again, I know another team with a D grade. The reason why is that I’m not sure about Duncan Robinson. I’m not sure about Carver who’s gonna stay healthy. Um and then the other players, who knows who steps up. So, I’m not sure how this is all going to work. Um it’s it’s very up in the air right now for the Pistons because of Malik Beasley situation. So, I got to give them a D because we’re not sure those two additions on the team are going to contribute like how Malik Beasley does. And yeah, guys, comment down below. Do you think the Pistons are gonna be a playoff team this year once again or not? And what would you grade their off season? A being the best or F being bad? And I’ll see you guys in
