Can’t win when you put all your marbles in on pitching because your offense sucks. Bound to have some bad outings at some point.
Using this to justify Chandler coming up is ridiculous. He has a 4.5 BB/9 in AAA. The big league hitters would feast on that.
Team ERA is over 4.00 for the season now, 17th in MLB. Pitching’s a lot more volatile than hitting, for both good and bad.

Even before this, I thought it was premature to say that the Pirates have all this pitching depth and that they have the pitching side figured out. Jarred Jones had a good first half of last year, but then, in the second half, he fell off. Keller seems to always struggle in the second half. Oviedo hasn’t really pitched since 2023. Hopefully, he can get back to his 2023 form eventually. Harrington has not looked good in his short stints at the MLB level. Braxton Ashcraft has been pretty good. Chandler should’ve been up by now but has struggled with walks and pitch inefficiency at the AAA level. Hunter Barco looks promising but still has to make that jump the MLB just like Chandler has to. The only success that the Pirates have had is Paul Skenes, but they didn’t really have to develop him too much.
