REKAP: ⚾️ Chicago Cubs 4-1 win over Toronto Blue Jays: 🚨🚨🚨Owen Caissie is getting called up!!

Welcome into the recap of the Cubs much needed 41 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday evening in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I’m David Kaplan. It’s brought to you by our great partners at Winrust, the exclusive home of Cubs Checking. Get your very own Cubs checking account at winrust.com/cubs or click the QR code that’s right there on your screen. We’ll get to the ball game in a moment. We’ve got big big news, folks. What have we all been screening for last night on the recap? All of your comments bring Owen Casey up. Well, guess what? He is coming up. He will be on the roster Thursday for the ball game against the Blue Jays, the series finale. The Cubs top prospect is being recalled tonight. So imagine what he’s doing right now. Okay, how am I getting from wherever I was to Toronto? They’ll get him there and he will be available. We’ll see if he’s in the lineup. Unfortunately, it comes at the expense of an injury to Miguel Amaya. Severe ankle sprain. X-rays negative according to Craig Council after the game, but Amaya’s headed back to the injured list when he beat out an infield ground ball. Now, let’s get to the rest of the news tonight. The rest of the ball game. Also brought to you by our great partners at Tasty Trade. Stocks, crypto, futures, options, whatever you trade, do it at Tasty Trade. tasty trade.com. Cubs needed to score first. When they score first, they relax. You’re facing a really good pitcher in Kevin Gosman. You’re throwing a really good pitcher in Cade Horton. And guess what? In the third, Michael Bush takes Gausman out to right field. his 23rd. It’s one- nothing Cubs. In the fifth, Matt Shaw, who’s been their best offensive player since the All-Star break. Matt Shaw, home run to left. It’s a two nothing ball game. We go to the sixth and with one out in the sixth inning for the Blue Jays. Kate Horton has a no hitter going. He gives up a base hit to Andre Jimenez. And then a 10 pitch at bat. Give Bo Bashette credit, man. He grinded. He spoiled some really good pitches. And Bob Bashette walks. Craig Council, give me the right-hander Andrew Kitridge. I would have left Kate Horton in. I would have, but Council said, “Hey, we’re not going to just tax this guy with crazy numbers of pitches.” So, he went to Kitridge. He promptly gives up a double to Vlatty Guerrera. It’s a two-1 ball game. And then he gives up a long fly that Ian Hap tracked down deep in left field that I thought was gone. I thought it was out of here. I’m like, you got to be joking. But it stayed in the ballpark. We got a man there. And they caught it. Inning over. 21 Cubs. And then in the eighth, Michael Bush sack fly. Matt Shaw scores. Sea Suzuki base hit. Welcome back, Seiya. And that brings in Reese Maguire who was in to run for Amaya. and the Cubs take a 41 lead. Let’s get to our starting pitching matchup because that’s the story of the game tonight. It’s brought to you by our great partners at Hooters 11 Chicago area locations. The original Hooters.com Kane Horton 7 and three now five and two/3 of one hit, one run it’s earned. He wasn’t even in there when the run scored, but it was his base runner. 8Ks a careerhigh two walks. Kitridge, Theoar, Keller, and Palencia finish it off for Palencia. A perfect inning of relief with 1K. Nine pitches, all strikes, six of the nine, 101 miles an hour plus. That is throwing it and getting it done for the Blue Jays. Kevin Gosford, who I really like. I’ve been saying for a while when the Blue Jays were not playing well that maybe they would trade him. Now they’re in first and they would never move on from a veteran arm like that. He takes the loss. It’s 89 now on the season. Seven innings, three hits, two runs there earned. Both the solo home runs, threeks and one walk. And they use three relievers to finish it off. But the Cubs win a very, very important ball game cuz the Reds won. You don’t want to look up and go, now we’re only four and a half out the wild card. Big win, big hits in big spots. I will tell you this, they only scored four runs. I thought they swung the bats well tonight. Kyle Tucker had a strikeout in his last at bat, but he had three hard hit balls. One I was listening to Blue Jays broadcast with my son. We’re watching on my phone and we’re listening to Dan Showman and Buck Martinez and they thought that ball was gone that Tucker hit and it died at the warning track. But it was a much better swing. He got some turn into it. Looked like maybe he’s feeling better. I don’t know. We’re going to find out. We’ll see if he’s in the lineup tomorrow with Owen Casey making his major league debut on the roster tomorrow. Player of the game. I could go a lot of ways, but I got to go Kate Horton. Kate Horton is our apt player of the game. He was simply magnificent. Now, what’s up next? Up next is our Studio 41 look ahead. Studio41.com 13 locations, home remodeling showroom. They did this beautiful kitchen. They should do yours, too. Uh, tomorrow, 207 first pitch. Cubs can actually win the series. As ticked off as we all were last night, they can win the series with a victory tomorrow afternoon. Matthew Boyd against Max Scherzer. Let’s see if they can get it done. Let’s flipping go. Find a way to win a baseball game. get a good night’s sleep, grab a cup of coffee, get to the park, and find a way to win a baseball game. Cubs really need it. They really need to take this series. Then they come home on Friday, and they open a three-game set. No Paul skins all weekend. They get the Pirates Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And then a five-game series with the Brewers begins on Monday. Have a great rest of your evening. Owen Casey’s coming up. I’m telling you, they’re listening to all of us. Owen Casey on his way. Let’s go. Take that.

Right after the Chicago Cubs beat the Toronto Blue Jays, BREAKING NEWS came out that top prospect Owen Caissie is getting called up to the major league club after Miguel Amaya severely sprained his ankle and is headed back to the IL.

As for the game, the Chicago Cubs got a much-needed victory against the 1st Place Toronto Blue Jays. The offense finally looked like a competent group that put together good at bats and hit the ball well throughout the night. Michael Busch hit a towering HR to kickstart the Cubs scoring. Cade Horton is quickly becoming the Cubs best starter. Kap says so but but the stats back it up. Horton took a no-hitter into the 6th and finished his night after 5.2 innings allowing just a hit and a run. He’s been absolutely spectacular for the Cubs and easily could be their game one starter in any playoff scenario. The Cubs can get a series win tomorrow afternoon in Toronto before coming back home to Wrigley Field to host the Pittsburgh Pirates where they will not face superstar, pitcher, Paul Skenes.

Take That!

  1. Meh on the win, the inconsistency gives me cause to pause from now on. I'd rather focus on how spectacular Cade has been, the kid has been the best pitcher in the majors over the past month. 4-0 0.32 ERA in his last 5, is filthy work.

  2. Which team will show up tomorrow?
It's not like we hit the cover off the ball.
Cassie just another strike out in the order.
    Get well, Miggy.
    Come on, Kap

  3. No one wants to lose a job or look like the weak link! Organizational Competition encourages urgency, focus,… and most likely better overall baseball! If O-N-KC has an ounce of success he makes all the outfielders better=Happ, Tucker, Seiya, PCA! Lets Go!

  4. Cubs have the same number of losses as the Blue Jays. In Toronto they are talking about the World Series. In Chicago they are whining like a bunch of children.

  5. Feel terrible for Amaya. What is it with the Cubs and first base? Swanson misses it and Amaya has a disastrous fall over it. JD was particularly sympathetic on the broadcast. Very sad for him. Caissie hopefully gets some playing time.

  6. Honestly shocked they're calling him up. I thought they'd be holding him back because they are assuming there will be a lockout in 2027, nuke the season and they want hold onto Cassie longer.

What needs to happen is that Cassie needs to play. If the foursome of Happ-PCA-Tucker-Seiya are your biggest strugglers, then Cassie basically rotates from LF-CF-RF-DH-rest then repeat and you basically have to sit one of those four when he plays. And if they're upset about losing PT, Counsel's job is to make them okay with it.

  7. So the big news you’re excited for is Owen Cassie is being called up? Just 2 weeks ago you were screaming for the Cubs to go all in and trade for 3B Eugenio Suarez and a starter…and if the cost was Owen Cassie and other top prospects you were all for it.
Well they did get a starter(Soroko)…but even a casual fan would have been very hesitant to trade for him if they had the prior knowledge that Jed Hoyer and the Cubs had on Soroka…knowing his injury history and that his velocity was down 3mph in his last 3 starts. This doesn’t get the criticism it deserves…either Soroka was showing signs of an issue or he was fatigued…and that’s who Hoyer targeted as the starter the Cubs needed?
And since being traded to Seattle Suarez is 5 for 41 with 1 hr 17k’s and 3bb’s. In comparison Matt Shaw since Aug 1st is 7 for 26 4 hr 7k’s and 3bb’s.
So now you’re hyped that Cassie is the savior?🙄
1 move the Cubs SHOULD HAVE DONE is trade Tucker at the deadline and get whatever they could in return. Because 1) he had been struggling the entire month of July (1 hr .218 avg) and if it’s not just a slump but injury then even more reason to cut their losses because 2) the Cubs know if they are going to resign him next year…and there is no way they were ever going to pay him 400+million. So that was the time to trade him and then bring up Cassie.
The other issue that Counsell should have handled weeks before the trade deadline was straightening out PCA. He was amazing and the biggest reason for the Cubs success in the first 3 months…but the run of hitting home runs did more harm than good. Now he sees himself as a power hitter and that mindset has impeded his progress…since July 11th he has 2 hr’s with 29k’s and 0bb’s. And what compounded the issue was his rise in celebrity. Since the All Star game he basically ran to left field to try and make the catch on what was a lazy fly ball to the LF Happ…has wildly overthrown the cut off man by throwing to home when there was no chance..and while becoming less and less disciplined at the plate(that every fan has noticed for at least 3 weeks) he continues to throw his bat and helmut game after game. Now why does that matter and why does Counsell get a lot of blame for this…because keeping PCA centered and aware that he’s playing for 25 guys and not just himself is the discipline and priority that is needed to guide young players when they are first getting success. The slump at the plate is obvious but what I have noticed for awhile is his outbursts that Counsell has totally ignored. It’s been a lost opportunity for crucial teaching at this phase of his development. And that’s the stage he is in..developing still..unless this is the player fans want him to be or PCA wants to be…a player that can be red hot for a stretch but then becomes a total non factor at the heart of the order and swings for the fences at bad pitches repeatedly and is allowed to.

  8. Good win. Horton looks great. Caissie coming up is awesome. Brewers still looking like the '37 Yankees. Not just winning. Putting up huge offensive numbers in almost every win. We have our work cut out.

  9. Cool. Idk if that's the guy I would of picked. (Johnathan Long reminds me of the old school Red Sox Corner IF when they won WS) But cool. He's gonna boom some, K some I'd want Owen following Tucker all day everyday tho.

  10. The last time the Brewers lost was July 30 to the CUBS. They're undefeated in August. 12 wins in a row. Can we ship some calendars to the Brewers that just show September so they forget its August?

  11. Keller one of the arms being totted around took 6 against the brew crew maybe they were right to stay with Cade? Anyway for the most part it has been lack of offence post all-star break rather than bad pitching think we are 22nd with an average of 4 the brewers are obliviously 1st with an average of 6.5. We just need a run maybe not 12 but 6 would be nice or 8.

  12. Caissie gets brought up but the problem with this staff, guy plays one or two games then sits for a week. Lets hope he gets lots of time in the lineup.

  13. I’m starting to think management has something to do with the Cubs negative approach this season, lots of key players not looking good for awhile now. Not a good sign for this team. Epstein was a leader. Maybe Hoyer isn’t?

  14. Yeah, KAP, since Mr. Ricketts offered ZERO in the way of help at the trade deadline what else is there to hype except the vaunted pony league players like Caissie called up? The ones that cheap ass Cubs ownership rely on instead of buying bona fide major league players? It’s actually sickening to see you this excited, but I understand you have minutes to fill and have already pushed back on Hoyer, Ricketts etc.. on this same program. Amaya’s injuries somehow keep benefiting the Cubs so we’ll have to see. His absence wasn’t missed. In reality, he’s about a career .199 hitter and could never throw anyone out. His being on IL probably saved the Cubs about sixty runs. Obviously, the Cubs need a spark to stay relevant. Might as well try the farm since that’s all the Cubs ever do-farmin’.

  15. As frustrating as this season has been, it’s worth considering that the Cubs have found some really valuable places. For one, Matt Shaw is their 3B, and they have a legit starting P in Cade Horton and possibly Colin Rea.if Steele comes back healthy they have a great starting rotation.

  16. I’m sorry CC won’t play him because he is not part of his regular lineup what sit 27 or Happ no freaking way. Where are all the Cubs fans who were screening for Shaw to sit because he wasn’t hitting and wanted that Buster from Arizona how is he doing in Seattle

  17. ABT is a joke of a place! I used to work there and tore my lower biceps tendon! Human resources department was lying about everything! The people that work there are not honest! Totally disingenuous!
