Steelers-Bucs Joint Practice THOUGHTS, Run game cold, WR stands out, DBs battle | Steelers Rewind
What’s going on everybody? Welcome back to Steelers Rewind here on Pen Lavnick Farball here with you guys. I am down on the field. We just wrapped up Steelers Buccaneers joint practice. Um, obviously I can’t report all the specifics to you. I can report what the Steelers players said to me um and what their narratives was and just some basic uh observations I had about players that I’m going to editorialize. So, let’s get into this. Here’s the thing. From what players told me, I think it’s comfortable to say the Buccaneers won this practice. I I do think that um the run game in particular was a place where Caleb Johnson and Zack Frasier both said they really wish there could have been a little bit of improvement today. Um you know, Frasier pointed to uh the blitzes that the Buccaneers were sending. Apparently, they were sending a lot of blitzes that were really hurting the Steelers’s ability to get to the second level. That’s what he said. Caleb um is kind of focused on his game slowing down a little bit and he thinks it is. And that’s what he thought happened in Jacksonville was the game got a little too fast for him and he was thinking a little too much. Um but they think there’s also positives in that this offensive line is coalescing together. Uh pass was something that they were really really impressed with. Um I talked um with Pat Fman who thought the pass was really good. Um, Zack Frasier said the same thing. They said that they thought VVEA and those guys were neutralized for the most part. A lot of blitzes, but it was to be expected today from this Buccaneers team. So, that was something I thought that stood out. Also, this offense won the the seven shots period. Um, Pat Ram said six to one. Um, that’s an impressive number no matter what. So, they did win that. The two-minute rule was a little different. Patmouth said uh they went four and out, which meant four plays and that was it. Uh, so not as impressive in the two-minute drill. Um, and then of course throughout the team drills, it felt like it was a little bit up and down. One thing that I got through talking with Brandon Eckles and Deshawn Elliott was that the secondary really did play well. Mike Evans gave them some trouble, which is not surprising at all. Um, Brandon Eckles referred to that as a big dog fight. It was Ramsay against Evans for the most part according to him. Um, and they said that was a back andforth HOS match that lived up to that expectation. Um the secondary feels really confident coming out of this. That’s a really good group of Tampa receivers. And they don’t even have Chris Godwin yet, but Jaylen McMillan, Sterling Shepard, and Mech Eggbuka, plus Mike Evans, and then you add Godwin in there. Really good crew. Um and the Steelers defense felt like they did step up. Now, Patrick Queen did say they allowed the touchdown in the two-minute drill. Something they really want to improve upon. They feel like the communication’s there. They feel like uh there is a lot to build upon um with this defensive group. and the defense felt like they slowed down the run, felt like they got into the backfield a lot. Um, when I talked to DK Metaf as well, Metaf mentioned he felt he and Rogers were feeling it today on the offensive side. Um, they apparently had a really nice catch here in seven shots on a touchdown. Um, there were a few really, really good things that were building there. So, I do think the Buccaneers came out here and won this. I think Brandon Eckle said that they came out quote unquote flat. um which is something to think about given how many slow starts this have had coming out flat on this field um in the in this kind of setting. Not necessarily what you want to see. Um but we will kind of see how this goes about. So I would say Bucks probably won this practice. The O line looked good in past pro. It seems like the defensive secondary lived up to their name. It seems like the Steelers Dline played well and from talking around it feels like the Steelers felt like they could have come out faster, had a little bit more trying to impose their physicality. a lot of things the Steelers want to work on. Um, and it feels like among guys that stood out today, just a few names that I I would say caught my eye, Scotty Miller, uh, looked good. He continues to look explosive and make a lot of good catches. Um, I would say that Brandon Eckles continues to have a really good training camp. Um, I would also say Cole Hulkcom, another guy that has continued to play well. Derek Harmon, I think, is living up to his billing as a first round pick. So, those are some guys from my point of view that look good. Obviously, I can’t give you guys specific examples unless they were given to me thanks to the reporting rules. It’s kind of odd, but I’m trying to give you guys as much of a picture as I can here today where I do think the Steelers probably lost this joint practice. Um, but there were some positives coming out of this, and I’m looking forward to seeing some of it in the preseason game. Granted, we aren’t going to see most of the Steelers starters. All right, folks. Thanks for watching. Make sure to like, comment, subscribe, turn notification bell for

Thank you!
First
thumbs down for spinning like a top
Thanks Nick
god bless Nick
Not trying to be that guy but Sounds like the same old Steelers to me 🤣🤣 for five years I’ve always had higher expectations for the team but until they prove something, I’m not buying any of the optimistic reporting.
So much for the steelers might defense??? lol heard they got sexed all day! Another year same shit
Thanks very much appreciated
Man all i needed to know was that our o line looked good! Great reporting my guy.
👍
I love my Steelers regardless of who’s on the roster or who’s the head coach. I’m a STEELERS FAN! As long as no one in the organization is a racist, child predator, or just overall morally bankrupt I will always support my Steelers.
Stand still. Too much walking and spinning around.
Thanks for painting the picture..I can now see its the same Old steelers with different faces…what a disappointment.
Im a fan of both teams so I have mixed emotions
Win or lose, it sounds like the Steelers know what they need to do to fix it
Good work Nick
How did it go that well you say but the Bucs won the practice, cant just be the run offense wasnt great.
No signs yet through the entirety of camp that this team is gonna have any semblance of a run game at all. It's more than concerning, it's looking like an inevitability that it's gonna be a bottom 8 run game. Kaleb Johnson just has not impressed at all either
Coming out flat. We are in mid season form
6-1?? I'll take that
Steeler Nation 😤🔥
Ramsey is not "him"
I've had enough of the "run-first team that doesn't run the ball very well" archetype of the last few years. So far, no indications that's changing this year but its still early I guess…
Appreciate it as always bud!
I understand you can't share specifics, but I've seen various posts/comments implying that Ramsey got obliterated/wasn't remotely even competitive vs Mike Evans.
That has to be hyperbole, right? I understand that giving up plays is going to happen as a CB. Look what Pickens did to the DPOY last year. Was it akin to the Pickens/Sertain matchup? Better for Ramsey? Or worse? Just wondering where this is coming from.
Steelers coming out flat! Why am I not surprised. 🤦♂️
By what u saying the practice sound pretty even to me sound like both teams got good work in 💯
Fire Hot Garbage Mike Tomlin. No OL for 13 years
Cant spell Steeler Fans without OVERREACTION 😂
Thank you sir 🖤💛
How lose? 6-1 on 7 shots…line did well, D line did well, Holcomb did well, DBs did well, 2 minute not good….HOW LOSE?
Tampa fan… subbing just because it’s hard to find reasonable nfl fans. Good luck to you.
DK Pittsburgh sports said it was all yellow… how did Bucs win the practice
If you're trying to work on the run game then the Bucs probably aren't the team you want to practice it against in preseason lol.
Thank you
We won seven shots
"Flat."
Typical Mike Tomlin, Steelers team.
Sounds like the Bucs destroyed the Steelers.
Ty for information, nice to get more than 1 perspective. However it was making me nauseous watching the background shaking and bouncing around behind you, especially those black and gold stripes.
coalescing,to grow together,to unite into a whole : fuse
So short version, The OL still "Sucks got it thanks
That's okay. Get the flaws out now, before the season starts proper. The only way to lose a practice is if people got injured. The rest is just figuring out what needs to be worked on
