Milwaukee Brewers look to tie club record in series vs. Reds – Dan Plesac reaction | MLB Network
the story that has just gone everywhere. Here it is officially from the George Web official X feed. It finally happened for the third time in history. We’re giving away free burgers at all locations on August 20th from 2 to 6:00 p.m. Congrats to the crew on 12 straight wins. Let’s keep the streak alive. So, they’ve had this thing going for years. You win 12 games in a row uh and everybody gets a burger. Here are the three occurrences. In 1987, the first time it happened, when Dan Plesak’s Brewers won 12 in a row, including the Easter Sunday Miracle, 168,000 were given away. In 2018, 90,000. If you do the math on what they’re going to absorb on the 20th of August this year, $800,000 burgers are That’s going to take a hit on if you’re stocking George Web funds right now. Oh. So, we we have this this great occasion to talk to a guy who was integral when the uh when the Brewers won 13 in a row to set a franchise record in 1987. They still talk about that run you guys had to open the year, the Easter Sunday miracle. Just just go. Well, part of it was we were picked to be last place cuz the AL East, the Brewers then were in the AL East, but we had a really good team. some young players. Teddy Haggera, Robin Ya, and this was the 13th win in old Kamiski Park. We beat the White Socks and the Easter Sunday game. I’ve done a lot of great things. This was the greatest single game I was ever involved with. This was a 105 game that got pushed back to 2:00 because the huge walk up. Down two runs, ninth inning. Rob Deer ties it up. I’m warming up. Tom Treble Horn called down, said, “If it stays tied, you’re in.” That ball went into the bullpen as I was warming up and all I could see looking through that space between that little shack was Dale Swain standing with his arms in the air and I looked up and the ball was coming into the bullpen. I’m going to tell you, Matt, it was the only time in my big league career if you could have had a camera inside that that clubhouse, it was like a bunch of grown men acting like we just punched our ticket to Williamsport. Like high-fiving. couldn’t believe what was happening. The fans wouldn’t leave. We had to come back on the field. 30 minutes after that game was over, Matt, nobody had left. Amazing. It was incredible. And they still talk about it. It was It was It was the first really nice spring day. Yeah. In April cuz that’s why they had the big walk up. Yeah. That’s why the huge walk up. And so the next night, Monday night, we played the White Socks in Old Kamisky Park. And I I’m guessing this the crowd was somewhere between 18 and 20,000 and 12 to 15,000 had to be Brewer fans. It was like we were playing a road we were playing a road game but at home like it was the coolest thing ever and I was so happy to watch that yesterday. You and I have, you know, have a history with Milwaukee. It’s one of the darkhorse great cities to play in. It’s a magnificent summer city and this team is kind of a perfect fixture for Milwaukee. Blueco collar, take advantage, win games on the margins. They’ve got young players they’ve infiltrated. Andrew Vaughn’s come over. He’s changed everything. And you know what we talked about at the beginning of the show, opening season against the Yankees. All I could think of, I was watching opening day in the gym here at MLB and I thought, how are the Brewers going to do this with no Willie Adams and and no Devin Williams? Like, so you take their best, their most reliable everyday shortstop who plays every day. He signs with the Giants, you trade Devin Williams. So now the bullpen takes a hit and all they’ve done is developed, in my opinion, one of the best right-handed relievers in baseball in McGill. This guy is a beast. And he comes in and he he fits Milwaukee. He comes in. You could just see like his neck is bowed, his just ready to go. And he gets that last out. He’s a little bit of Brad Lesley. He’s a little bit of everybody that’s ever gotten that ninth out, that last out in the ninth inning, that 27th out, which is so hard to get. And they’ve got a good thing going right now. I just hope I hope they’re not peing too soon. Like teams go through these magical runs and then you wonder like are they going to hit a little L where okay they come back to earth you know I mean at one point Matt I mean they’ve run away and this is a good Cubs team I know this Cubs team they’ve had a tough time hitting they blew an opportunity today second and third nobody out at the Rogers center in the eighth inning they had a chance to win that game it didn’t happen and they had the right guys coming up in the order they had Hap they they had Kyle Tucker and and and they had a chance there and they didn’t get it done. It’s a good Cub team. The Cubs have to figure out some way soon to get PCA going again. Get Kyle Tucker hitting for power again. And they wasted a really good start. I’m going to tell you, Matthew Boyd, one of the best offseason signings, pitching signings in baseball. He’s been that good. If we peer forward a little bit, the Brewers trying to win 13 in a row, uh, and tie that franchise record. They’re they’ve got the Reds. They’re going to be in Cincinnati with Jacob Miseroski coming off the IIL to pitch at Cincinnati abbreviated start probably I would guess somewhere around 45 to 50 pitches maybe three or four innings. So don’t expect the Miz to go out there and go six innings. Right. And the Cub Show Otani pitched uh it was his ninth appearance on the mound since getting over the injury that cost him the chance to pitch last year. Season long four and a third. It’s still just four and a third. What do you make of Otani pitching? And is there an argument that says his inclusion in the rotation is actually detracting from what the Dodgers are trying to do? Yes. And and this is why Glassnau spent a lot of time on the IIL. Kershaw began the season on the IIL. Snell has spent a lot of time on the IIL. Gonzland a lot of time on the IIL. Sasaki a lot of time on the IIL. So, in a normal world, if the Dodgers Dodgers starting rotation had been healthy, you could say, “Okay, we can use an opener once every four or five days.” The problem with the Dodgers is they’ve used the opener a lot. And they’ve thrown more innings than any other National League team out of their bullpit. And that is a recipe for disaster because what happens, this is a team that had a 9-ame lead in July. But you start to look at the workload and you take a look at that graphic of Otani, it’s great. I think long-term once the Dodgers get into the postseason, which they’re going to get in. They’re on a bad little run right now. The problem is that bullpen that’s worked so hard. And if Big Blue wants to win this National League West, they trail the Padres’s right now. those relievers that have been overworked and overused, they’re going to need those guys in the next five and a half to six weeks, if they have visions on winning the NL West. So, I get it. You have no choice with Otani to ease him back in. And in a perfect world, if Glassnau would have been healthy, Kershaw would have been healthy, Blake Snow would have been healthy, and when Gland came back and quite honestly, I think they were expecting a lot out of Sasaki even though he was a young pitcher. He made the team, pitched one of the two games against the Cubs in Japan. And I thought the Dodgers probably looked at their starting rotation, said, “Okay, we’ll be able to cover a lot of innings. Let’s hope we have a problem. They’re all good. They’re all healthy, and we’ll back them off. We’ll have them all ready for the month of August and September. We’ll amp them up and really have them like ready to go when it matters.” The problem is all of those starters have missed so much time that you can’t just expect Blake Snell you’re going to run him out there for 100 pitches and Kershaw you had to ease him in. Same thing with Tony Goslin. The same thing with Sasaki and in a guy like Otani. He’s basically an opener. But the problem with the Dodgers is they’ve had to use the opener sometimes two and three days in a 7-day starting span. Yeah. Well, I mean, they’ll tell you that they’re building him up, and they are. Four innings, two starts ago, four and a third last night. He’s, by the way, he struck out 15 and not walked anybody over his last eight and a third. That’s those last two starts. So, the build, we we see it happening. The problem in addition to what you just laid out, which is spoton, is you got another guy in the rotation uh who needs that extra day between starts. Yamamoto. Yamamoto and Otani now. Correct. So, you know, the other side of it is, and I’m sure this is what Dave Roberts has said because he’s been asked about this, we’d rather have Otani for three or four innings than not at all on the mount. He’s that impactful. It does complicate the rest of the animal. But look, they’re taking on water right now. Since the beginning of July, the Dodgers lead at top the NL Central has not only, you know, shrunk, it’s gone away. They’re looking up at San Diego now. The Padres’s have a full head of steam. So, they’re looking for arms and innings anywhere they can get it. And even if it makes it more complicated, I think the Dodgers are willing to live with Otani in the rotation because they need live bodies there. They do. This is the risk that is going to take place with the Dodgers for the next five and a half to six weeks. You’re always at an advantage if you can win the division and get out of that playin situation, right? Three games, you play them on the road. if you’re on the wrong side of of the of the record. A and so if you’re the Dodgers right now, do you continue to go all in? And if you continue to go all in, that means that you’re going to have to cut back the innings on Otana. You have to really be careful with Glass. Now, you have to be careful with Kershaw because you’re going to need those guys the last couple of weeks of the season. So, they’re in a tough spot and I know they won’t say it. They won’t admit it. And and I’ve looked at this from the beginning of the season when Blake Snell started on the IIL, Kershaw started on the IIL, Sasaki went on the IIL. Matt, you’re asking a lot. And listen, this is a team that can score runs and they’re they’re a good team. But I will say this, the Padres’s are on a heater. And I was kind of like not getting as excited because the last couple of years we’ve all loved this rivalry, Dodgers Padres’s. It’s the best rivalry. It’s taken over Red Sox Yankees right now. It really has. They don’t like each other. the fan bases don’t like each other, but this is the first time I feel that there’s a big advantage for the Padres’s because their pitching is in much better order right now than the Dodgers This.

Tie???? More like break
You can't spell higuera?
I guarantee you it doesn't cost 3.93 for a single burger 😂.
$800k is a lot for George Webbs but they've been marketed on every major sports broadcast for free, including ESPN.
That's millions of dollars worth of advertising they are getting for free.
Brilliant business campaign.
The burger is cheap…lots will buy fries or pay for cheese and a soda Etc etc. Shirts and other merch for sale. They're easily making a profit on this.
I am so excited for my Brew Crew- DO IT FOR UECKER & MURPHY
