🔴LIVE 🔴Tampa Bay Rays VS Oakland Athletics / August 13 /Mlb Envivo/MLB the show 25
of this half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Tampa Bay Rays taking on the Athletics. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Coming up on the first pitch and on the hill in this one, Jeffrey Springs. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark, in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around. And we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Hassan Kim, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. It’s a one-1. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Yandi Diaz now. And that clips the inside corner. Let’s go. One down. Base is empty. Outside with a breaking ball. And there’s a foul ball. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Anytime you can punch out the top two guys in a lineup to start an inning, got to be feeling pretty good out there on the mound because when you think of just having a distraction, table setters on the base paths and all of a sudden you’re dealing with a number three hitter. Any distraction can cause you to serve up a cookie and instead of it being a solo shot, it’s a two or three-run homer. And now it’s Brandon Laauo swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Two down. Nobody on. That’s in there. No balls, two strikes. And that’s in the dirt. Down to the dirt, swing, and a miss. Langalers gathers, throws to first. That completes the strikeout. Inning over. We head to the bottom of the first. No score after a half inning. Back here with my pal Singi, our starter in this one, Ryan Pepio. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Lawrence Butler, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Joe Bole is forced to the mound after the injury. Gets an opportunity to square off against his former team. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out a little extra jacked up right here. right through there for a strike. That one to first and he takes it himself for the out. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. Not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games, Chris. Yeah, boo. That can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now and that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs. So, we’ll see if everybody can just relax, bring things together and perform at a level that they’re capable of. Brent Rooker stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. Poo, he never moved because he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Come on, Athletics. Out in front and fouled to the left side. One out. Base is empty. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. Batting third base. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. What a season it’s been for him. He has supplied a lot of power and that average. There’s a strike. Boille picks to first. Rooker dives back in safely. Now right back to the mound. Could be an easy two. Over to Kim. One over to first. That’s two. Nicely done. 163. And that will end the inning. End of one. And we’re still scoreless. And welcome back to the ballpark. Second inning, set to go. Now the third baseman, Junior Camro. Oh, he’s been having a great year this year and hitting home runs at a good clip and the matchup is very favorable. Springs back to work in there for a strike at the top of the zone. That fast ball, even though it’s up, that’s the velocity you want to go after. Low 90s a lot better than trying to hit the high 90s. And that one is inside. Mike Thillmore, our played umpire, very consistent with his zone, Chris, gets a lot of praise for that. He does, Boo. And I think that with any umpire, you really just want them to be consistent. Fillmore’s a guy that does a good job back there in that way. So, people around the league really appreciate his consistency. There’s a high chopper. Zips it to first. Leadoff man retired here in the second. Here’s the center fielder, Everson Pereira. Put that 600 slugging into context. The league average usually in the low 400s. That’s inside. And that’s ball one. Here 23 years old and they traded for him earlier this year. That one close rule to ball. Now 2 and 0. And there’s the strike. [Applause] That’s off the mark. Three and one. way out front for strike two. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action and he grounds one to the right side and foul ball. One down, base is empty. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Not too often you’re going to see a sub 90 mph fast ball get by a hitter for the strikeout, especially when it’s in a very hitable location like that. Makes me think he was either looking for something else completely or he tried to do way too much with that swing. Josh Low stands in now and watches strike one. Second inning here. No score. And ball one. One ball, one strike. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Makes the catch and that’s the third out. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And we’re back. Bottom of the second. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. Go, baby. Let’s go. And a foul ball. That’s off the inside corner and it’s one and one. Tampa Bay’s bullpen with some action. Mason Angler warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Jacks also throwing. Tap foul at the plate. And he hits a ground ball right side. Slings to first. That’s one out in the bottom of the second. Good slider inside right there. Batter fighting to get there. Just rolled over it. Got the ground ball. Tyler Soderstrom now at the plate. Chris, he’s definitely going to finish the year with a new careerhigh in homers. We just don’t know how many he’s going to hit quite yet. And that drops in for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Not even close there. Ball one. And a base hit up the middle. So they get a man aboard with a one out single all over that one right there. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. So up next, Daryl Hern misses outside. hit on the ground. Might be two and he can’t come up with it. Still manages a throw and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Fastball grew right down the middle. Usually a lot of damage done with that pitch. a hard grounder, but he wanted to get that ball in the air, maybe drive it into the gap. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position, JJ Blade. Up next for the A’s. It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate. It’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. A little bit high and that’s ball one. Two outs and one in scoring position. That one in triple digits. Back-to-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Inside two and one. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that one. Right through there for a strike. Ruer at second. Two down. Strike three. Got him swinging. And that’s the inning. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. Top half of the third inning. Now it’s the DH Christopher Morel. That one ripped but fouled. Hit hard on the ground to short. Tosses to first. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Oh, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. And stepping in for the Rays, Nick Forez. First pitch misses. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Top of the third, no score. The one-1 is fouled off. The wind, the kick, and the one, two, and a foul ball. He stays alive. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Oh, great stop from his knees. The throw. And that’s a great play for the out. A quick move to his left, fully extended there in front of the shorts stop to make the grab. Up with it, then a strong accurate throw across the diamond to complete this highlight play. Here’s the left fielder. Fast ball for a strike. and that’s down and away. One in the air out to center and that’ll fall for a base hit and that keeps the inning going. high fast ball even a little above the zone but such a good job of staying tall on the backside getting that barrel there to meet it just in time I tell you what it’s not easy to do and now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases next to hit Kim first pitch doesn’t find the zone if it were an average catcher behind the plate I’d say take second base but this isn’t a catcher you want to run on his quick release is unreal The next offering misses two balls, no strikes. Chris, with that distraction and the speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. Clips the corner and that is strike two. Snap throw to first and he’s back in easily. Swang at a highf fly ball. Well struck way back there. That one is gone. He’ll touch them all. Third home run of the season. It’s two nothing, Zigging. That’s his 50th career homer. 50 might not sound like a huge number, but it’s a nice little milestone that a lot of guys don’t get to. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spit on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Base is empty with two away. Yandi Diaz next to hit for the Rays. That one missed. Two outs. Base is empty. Next one is off the play and it’s two and one. Next offering is fouled back. Two outs and a popup right side. foul territory has room and he makes the catch, but two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. And it’s two zip ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now the DH Luis Aras. How about this one, Boo? In 2023, Arias hit grand slams for Boston in back-to back plate appearances. They happened on different days, but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940. Just missed. Well struck left field. That one carrying onto the track and he makes the catch. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. That one ripped. That’s back there. It’s a bomb. And they’ve got their first run. It’s 2-1. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. [Applause] Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. [Applause] So the lineup flips over. Lawrence Butler the next to hit. Grounded out. His first time up. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and0. One out. Base is empty and a run in as the Rays try and punch back down a run. And another ball. Boil maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, guys, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. And there’s ball four. Pretty easy walk right there. Her last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Now batting one gone runner at first. Now the number two hitter, Brent Rooker. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? No, partner. Every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. Uh, so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken out, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. And there’s a ball with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Pickoff throw. Butler dives and can’t get back in time. He’s picked off. Unless you’re really thinking about stealing second base, you should not get picked off by a right-handed pitcher right there. Got him swinging. Inning over. The A’s get one on this homer and it’s now a two-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. John Shambi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Brandon Laauo. Let’s go to baby. That’s outside and that is ball one. Well, these Rays showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. way high. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. Out towards right center. That’s well struck. And that one hops the wall and that’s a leadoff double. Oh, that’s how you respond. Leadoff man comes up, gets into scoring position. Now, there are several ways that they can get this run across. And here comes Mark Kat as he’s ready to make a change and go to the bullpen. Jeffrey Springs won’t go any further. Just never found his groove. Wasn’t able to settle in. New arm coming on. Back in a moment. Now pitching for the now. A right-handed arm out of the bullpen number 50. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Camero getting ready to hit. Grounded out his first time. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. Top half of inning number four. Clips the corner. One ball, one strike. Movement in the bullpen. Number 49 preparing to come on if needed. Bowden also getting ready. inside and it hit him. And now here is Emerson Pereira 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. That one carrying one runs in. bangs off the wall in to score from first and they’re up by three. Well, that was an important at bat in this game. So, a great job there stepping up to the challenge. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. Now up for Tampa Bay. Josh Low fly to right his first time. swing and a highf fly ball left field. Sodstrom sizes this one up, hauls it in, and there’s one away. Up next for Tampa Bay, the designated hitter, Christopher Morell. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. up and in. And it’s one and0. Right through there for a stride. just missed. Still only one out here in the inning. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Oh, that’s that slurp right there. He threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to [Music] that one down the line and that’s just foul. Pereira leads off second with one gone in the inning on the ground. fires to first in time. Now batting catcher Nick Forz. And now the catcher for the Rays, Nick Forez. First time up. He grounded to third. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. And they’re swinging a miss. I think he was sitting off speed there. Popped up. [Applause] Schuman makes the grab and that is that. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. It’s now 4-1. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Welcome back. And they turn to a new arm as we kick off the bottom of the fourth. Number 48. Still a lot of game left. And this game could go either way. So, this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Nick Curts digs in now. Curts, a very strong candidate for rookie of the year. He’s been a real story, one of the best young players in the majors this season. And that’s in for a strike. pitch misses and the count even one and one. Hit on the ground to the right side and he handles it himself for the out. Now betting catcher Shay Langalers. And now the catcher comes up to him. Shay Langalers grounded out his first time. Not close with that one. Ball one. And another ball. Two count. Great hitter at the dish. If you’re going to miss, you’ve got to miss outside the zone. You miss inside the strike zone, you’ll be asking the umpire for a new baseball. That misses the zone. Three and O. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball, but missed the spot. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. man at first with one gone. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. One for one with a single so far. Misses again. Five in a row. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. swing and a miss and it’s one and two. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge. Just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. Slider got him for strike three. Oh, we see it a lot more these days than we ever did when I played, but a slider in the 90s still catches your attention even if you’re sitting on the pitch. Good luck recognizing that tight spin and adjusting to the late break. Now it’s the shorts stop. Daryl Hern, he’s 0 for one. First pitch just misses. The Rays leading by three. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. swing at a ball lifted in the air left field pretty well struck and it’s a one hopper off the wall should be extra bases. Comes through with the RBI that pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. So runner at second, two down. Now it’s the right fielder JJ Blade. Struck out swinging his first time. Just missed. And the pitch and that one fouled off. Hern at second with two down and a swing and a miss. Wow. Good luck catching up to that one in the air. left side on his way over makes the grab and that will end the inning. A’s get one on the RBI double. It’s now 42. Major League Baseball is on the show. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Justin Sterner. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Now the left fielder one for one with a single and a run scored so far. Baby, let’s go. Sterner in his rookie season. He features a four seam fast, a curb, a slider, and he works in a sinker. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. And that’ll fall for a base hit. Had a good start to the inning. Now batting. Hang Kim now at the plate. He’s already homerred here in this one. Peanut come. And that’s too high. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game. He needs to pick his spot very wisely. Nobody out. Runner at first. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. Pitch is in for a strike and a count. Two on one. [Applause] outside low and it’s a full count. So, here we go. Base runner at first could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate. And that’s a fair ball and they’re at the corners with nobody out. I feel like I’ve seen more balls, and this is speaking as a a former outfielder, former center fielder, but more balls in this game, just out of the reach. Sometimes the angle’s not great. Other times, just got to give credit because the hitters hit the ball really hard and jumped off the bat. But one thing we do know, these warmer temperatures are very, very favorable for the hitters. So, digging in, Yandi Diaz. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. And ball one in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. Runners on the corners. No outs. Slapped foul. He’s getting the barrel to the ball. Just got to work on that timing a little bit. Swing and a miss. And he was fooled. Great spot to be in right here for the pitcher. You can either strike this guy out or get a ground ball double play. No outs. Runners at first and third. Highfly ball down the left field line and a foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Strike your fouled off and they’ll do it again. Fouls it back with two strikes. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. in the air right field. Leay under it. Brings it in. Runner tagging from third. He’ll score on the sack fly and they lead by three. There you go. Nice little RBI there. It’s a great at bat. Got the job done. Lao at the plate. One for two. just missed. Foul ball there. Throw over to first. Kim back on a dive on the ground. Could be two. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still fires to first and save. Couldn’t recover from the misplay. Uh, I think he just rushed that one. Great chance to turn two. And as an infielder on a play like that, I think guys can get a little excited and forget to make the play one step at a time. Could have been two outs. Instead, they get none. First and second, one out. And now Junior Camro. He’s 0 for one. Fouled off. He was late. Runners at first and second with one gone. Next one misses and it’s a ball and a strike. Ground ball to the right side and foul ball. One out. Runners at first and second. in the dirt but kept close. Two on, one out. That misses. Full count. Three and two. Line drive and that’s a base hit to right. Kim coming home. Here’s the throw to the plate. It’s offline. The run comes in. It’s 62. Love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Justin Sterner departs and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. So, a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Tyler Ferguson. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Two on, one out. Everson Pereira the next to hit. A chance for more damage right here. Couple of RBI’s for him in his last AB. And first offering is fouled off. Lao on second. Camero at first. One gone. and he’s down 02 as he swings through it. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. The O2 on the ground. Two ball. Good feed. That’s one. And that’s quick work out of the pen. One batter, two outs. Inning over. They put two on the board, three hits, one error, and one man left. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Rays six and the A’s two. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth. And taking over on the mound, Griffin Jacks. He’s pitching on two days rest. Number 22, Griffin Jack. Here’s Luis Oas fly to left his first time. The A’s in striking distance, but have some work to do. Boo, it starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. That clips the zone. It’s 0 and one. You know, these athletics just haven’t produced as many competitive at bats as I’d like to see in this one. They haven’t run a single count full in this ball game, and that’s just wild to me. That stat alone shows they’re making it way too easy to get them out. Got him swinging some high cheese for strike three. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone. But that’s one of the hardest things. But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch. When a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity, Schuman stands in here. Tried to hold back his swing there, but went around swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. rolled over to third. Camo handles, throws to first and a couple of quick outs. Now batting center fielder Lawrence Butler. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. And first off is fouled off. comes up empty. That’s strike two. [Applause] Next pitch is downstairs. Two down. Nobody on. And it remains two and two. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Breaking ball misses down and away. Wow, this guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch outside and that is ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. When you go that deep into an at bat, the hitter usually comes out on top. So, two down. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. A former first round pick and he’s really turned into a nice everyday player. Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Check swing and he went strike one. And one, two outs. That one called a strike and it’s 0 and two. Well, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat, if he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count. You got this. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. [Music] slowly on the ground to short fires across the diamond and that is the inning. The A’s strand one. They still trail it here. It’s six-2. And we’re back. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. And now the right fielder, Josh Low. And first offering is fouled off and that drops in for a strike and misses inside. Foul ball still a one and two count to third and it gets by him. Now batting designated hitter Christopher Morel. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. Has grounded out a couple of times. Ferguson checks over to first and he’s back inside. Just missed. Well, these Rays doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. They’ve done a great job finding holes in the defense. Exactly half of their hits have come off the bat less than 90 mph. So the ball isn’t exactly jumping off the lumber, but they’re finding a way to make it work. Two that one missed. There’s the strike and the count is three and one. Clearly taking all the way there in that 3 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. Slides, but he can’t come up with it. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Tampa Bay catcher Nick Forz. Nick Forz will hit next. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Right through there for a strike. First and second here. No outs. Rolled to short. Possible two ball onto second. They get one on to first. Double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Here’s the left fielder. He’s two for two. Chandler Simpson. Outside corner. There’s the strike. And it’s even up low at third with two away. Fast ball for a strike. [Applause] Fouls it off. Still one and two. Two outs. That one almost got him. Squirts away from Langalers and the runner holds. Two outs with a runner at third and down on strikes he goes. That’s the third out. So, it’s no runs on two hits, no errors, and one left on base. Hard of the order, 345 coming up. It’s the Rays six and the A’s two. Back now for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Garrick Clevenger. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Kurts. Bowl for two in this one. just missed. Bullpen movement for the Rays. Mason Angler getting loose out there. Baker warming up as well. The lefty the one. [Applause] And that’s a strike. Two balls, one strike. And that one fouled off. And that is downstairs and it’s three and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. [Applause] Swings through him for the K. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Up next. And here’s the catcher, Shay Langalers. Known for his rocket arm behind the plate. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. And there’s the strike. Yeah. And because he’s got the big arm, he pays attention to the running game and is sure to manage it. That’s a strike. 0 and two. Now, when you have a catcher that can throw like that, a pitcher doesn’t have to worry as much about the slide. he can keep his mechanics intact and have a better opportunity of getting that hitter out with a swing and miss. Two balls, two strikes comes the two- two swings and misses. It’s a strike out. The A’s down to their final out. Chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Fouled off left side. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. The Athletics down to their final strike and a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. Sometimes road trips can be tough. You’re away from your family, but when you can win, silence that opposing crowd. It makes things just a little bit better. Makes the road trip just a little bit shorter. And your final six-2 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB The Show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
