And I believe I used this same joke uh last week, but to watch this Cubs offense right now, you need an energy shot. They don’t score. You can’t win by scoring one run. Matthew Boyd is going to get Sai Young votes. They’re going to be down the ballot. Sure. He And yes, he made a bad pitch to Vlad Guerrero Jr. on on Thursday. But the Cubs lost 2-1 to the Blue Jays Thursday. They’ve dropped three series in a row. They’re 68 and 52 on the year. The all the offense could muster was a solo homer. Uh Boyd did allow that homer to Vlad and 02 count, which was a little annoying, but that was all the Blue Jays got. The Cubs had runners on second and third, no outs in the eighth and didn’t score. Hap, Tucker, and Kelly all struck out to end the inning. We’re going to recap this game in full. We’re going to preview Cubs Pirates. We’re going to talk about Tucker’s continued struggles, uh, Casey’s debut, and we wrap up with four uh, listener videos. Sam, it’s uh, we we outlined a plan for the Cubs to begin their turnaround. Yeah. and it didn’t quite begin on continue or begin this series. Can’t say we’re not trying. Um trying to be positive today. I I I don’t know what else there is to do. Um Thursday afternoon’s loss summarized everything that that not only everything that’s been going on the last couple weeks, but everything, Matt, that’s been going on for years with this organization. And it dates back to the core. It dates back to the end of 2018, the Rockies game, the Brewers game, 2020, that Marlins series. This team I you almost have to look back and this is more of an offseason thing and just look back at like why does everybody struggle at the same time because it’s you can’t call it a fluke anymore. It happens every season. So there’s maybe there’s something philosophically they could change. Maybe we could dig into that in the off season. There there’s two separate conversations. Supposed to look into that. I mean, they all stink. Yeah. Well, well, Schwarber doesn’t. He did here. What would you like me to look look into? I I They They stink. Um there’s two ways to look at this right now. We We We could go We could go the direction of why is Willie Castro getting at bats against right-handed pitching? He’s here to hit lefties and that’s it. Why is Ian Hap, who literally hasn’t had one complete month, his best month of the season, he had a 738 OPS. Why is he batting second when you’re in a playoff race? We could talk about that. We could talk about the fact that, you know, they didn’t deliver in certain spots that there there’s little things to discuss. We could talk about why didn’t Justin Turner get a chance? Your your second best clutch hitter. Why didn’t he get a chance late in the ball game? We could talk about Craig Council, how I think he macro manages instead of micro. Meaning, yes, Sea Suzuki is a better hitter than Justin Turner and he drew a walk, but in that spot, I I’d rather have the specific skill set of a guy that could go the other way and put the ball in play. We could talk about all that or we could just talk about what really is the the the problem. You went out in the off season to avoid a stretch like this and got Kyle Tucker and he is having he is having the worst month and a half stretch for a player of his caliber I’ve ever seen. He has no extra base hits in August. He had one home run in July. He came up with the game on the line, second and third one out that just needed to hit a sackfly and he wasn’t even close. and he’s clearly clearly feeling it. And this is such an example, Matthew, of why numbers are overrated. You have to have a human element. There’s a mental part of this game. These are humans. They They are not robots. He’s feeling it, man. And I feel for him. I do. I don’t want to watch this. and and and and you don’t take that into account when you’re going, “So, on a 2-1 pitch, this guy’s going to throw a cutter in. You don’t account for mindset and pressure.” And the pressure right now is getting to this young man. And and and it is it is awful to watch. His numbers going into today were 167, 250, 167 for a 417 OPS in August. Add another 0 for4 for that. So he’s 6 for40 in the month and his slash line in July was 218 380 295. His OPS is essentially in the high 500s for the last month and a half. That’s one of the worst hitters in baseball. They pulled out the series win against the Orioles almost two weeks ago now. But I feel like ever since then the deadline they really have been pressing. ever since the deadline. And so you do backdate it to the Orioles series. Yeah. Yep. And the human element is Well, they won they scored one run in one of the games they won against the Orioles. One, right? And the human element is one of my favorite parts of this great game of baseball that I love and the the the folks that continue to be dismissive of it, I’m going to be dismissive of you now. Yeah. Good for you. Because you’re wrong. Yeah. and and and glass half full for me as as an optimist also believes the human element will prevail for this team that we know when they they are clicking. They can score. They can play well. So I I hope it can reverse course. But I do believe that they are pressing. If you want to backdate it to to the deadline, go ahead. I would just bump it up a t a smidge more. Um, what did they do in the Orio series to make you think they weren’t pressing? Did they Did they Did they Musual walk through that door? Ted Williams, Mickey Manel. I mean, nobody hit. They got a walk-off homer from Turner. Uh, uh, and then Friday scored one run. Well, they had the quit. They had the pitchers duel. They won Friday, heartbreaker Saturday. Okay. The bullpen was great up to that point. Now, ever since then, it’s been questionable. And then they got the walk-off on Sunday. They’ve been they’ve been sleepwalking since that Cincinnati series for sure. I don’t think they’ve played good solid playoff caliber. This is a good team baseball since the Boston series. Yeah. Which was the opening series out of the break. Yep. And the last time I remember there being an electricity was was that Saturday night game against the Carmines. And that’s the last time Tucker Homer. And that was almost a month ago here. Let let’s keep this going. But Kyle Tucker this month and actually, excuse me, this is entering today. What was his final line today? He went 0 for four today. Okay. He’s six for 40 this month with no extra base. No extra base hits. No extra base hits. And here is the the largest concern. Oh well, Matt and Sam, his on base. It’s so weird. Matt and Sam, his on base percentage is still in this stretch 400. No, this month he’s walked three times and struck out 12. And that’s when you know something’s really wrong with him cuz now he’s not even getting on base. We’ll be back right after this. Today’s episode is brought to you by All right, Sam, we were talking about Kyle Tucker Cubs losing two out of three to the Blue Jays. We’re really backdating this slide uh more than that. we know the second half record and all that. Uh but really, yeah, since since the whole month then since the deadline, uh I I could buy that that you know, it’s been a bigger struggle than even before. Good. Buy it. Buy it. Yeah. Well, they’re 42 games remaining. They’re five games up on the first team out of the wild card, which is the Reds. Are you concerned? Um, are you? Yep. Yeah, I still think they’re going to make the playoffs. Um, but I just I really want them to be at Wrigley, but I I guess I shouldn’t be greedy. Oh, yeah. I I’ll say this. If they don’t if Tucker continues to hit like this, they won’t. So, like, he has to either get out of this or they have to put him on the IIL. I I still think they’ll make it. I I I I I just can’t imagine him being this bad for another month and a half. Is there a path to him getting out of it without taking a step back? I don’t know. I’m not a hitting coach. It doesn’t It’s hard to grasp. Maybe neither is Dustin Kelly. What did you say about Dustin Kelly? I said, “Well, I’m not a hitting coach and maybe neither is Dustin Kelly.” Dang. Um, no. I I’m just kidding. You can’t just start blaming hitting coaches when it all goes bad. That’s they The Cubs always do that. It’s it’s so far beyond who they Well, the Cubs have had more hitting coaches. Well, you’d have to give me a reference, but they had a run there where they had a new hitting coach every year, so you’re not too far off. I’m concerned. I mean, the Reds have a really good pitching staff. The Cubs still got to go there for four. You know, they’re if they split that series in Cincy, they’ll make the playoffs. Um, you know, which is a pretty low bar, but they got, you know, you can’t, like I said last night, you can’t even think about that right now. You just got to get back on track and you know maybe they could do that this weekend. Yeah. Right. So I the Pirates haven’t announced their starters. Um but the projected starters right now are Ray and Ashcraft. That’s Braxton. The Pirates version of the Ashcraft. You see a lefty or righty. I don’t I’ve never I don’t know who that for I’m not sure. But uh of course we know Ashcraft on the Reds is Grant is uh Grant. I’ve never I’ve never not really familiar with Mr. Ash. He’s a right-hander. Okay. Uh, Imanaga Burroughs Assad Heeney. I guess Paul Skins will be taking the extra day given the Pirates had an off day, but Skins could in theory pitch. So, is Ashcraft just like an It looks like he’s like an opener. He He’s He He’s He’s pitched a bunch. He just Well, I got that from Fan Graph’s roster resource. He goes like two innings. Oh, okay. Well, maybe it could be a bullpen game for the Buckos on Friday. His numbers are pretty good. His numbers are pretty good. Besides the matchups though, and again, I’m just talking about on paper right now. On paper, the Cubs should win two out of three. And if they want any sort of semblance of momentum, given the human elements that we’ve discussing, they do need to they they do need to win three games this weekend. Yeah. Two out of three is the bare minimum. Um, I think they need a sweep, but I’m concerned about Friday’s game after a tough loss like this, flying in late. Pit Pittsburgh’s been in Chicago since Wednesday night. Uh, you know, because they just Well, so yeah, they’re just having a grand old time down. They just got swept by the Brewers in a non-competitive series. Uh, so yeah, I mean, I I feel like if they can win Friday, I I think it lines up pretty well. Um, but uh, you know, I I don’t know what more there is to say. I mean, it’s a very light-hitting Pirates team. I don’t know what the weather’s going to I know the weather’s supposed to be good. I don’t know what the wind’s going to be doing. Um, and look, if you want a piece of positivity, it’s a miracle. Let me let me just get make sure my facts are right. It’s a miracle that the Cubs are a borderline 500 team. Uh I think they’re right around 500 since July 1st with the way Tucker’s played. I mean I mean to give them credit. I mean he he’s he’s been a a bottom level replacement level hitter for for now going on his second month and you’re to be 500 that’s actually kind of impressive. I I don’t know. I mean you know um I I guess you could go with that. Um this team was built around him. it was built around him. The whole reason they moved on from Bellinger, who’s starting to have as good of a campaign, if not better than him, is because the Cubs needed an an extra level, a guy that doesn’t slump for this long. And you know, I don’t even remember Bellinger getting into a funk of this caliber. Oh boy. Um, I got a question for you. Yeah, they’ve lost seven of 11 since that pitchers duel game uh against the Orioles, right? Right. They’re only four and seven. Oh, they’re they’re four. Yeah. So, they’re four and seven. So, that means they’re they’re four and seven since they won that Friday game against the O’s, which means they’re five and seven in August. Yeah. So, they’re five and seven in August that Kyle Tucker is hitting literally like a pitcher. So, you know, the other one of the other great joy of of baseball discussion for me, Sam, is lineup talk. Like to me it’s okay to have lineup discussion. We we can talk about whatever we want, right? You don’t you don’t have to just because people make fun of us. We could discuss whatever we want. That that that doesn’t whatever. Let me tell you. Oh, don’t get Well, I I’d like to punch down right now, but I’m not going to name any names right now. Yeah. Yeah. But I could I’ve done it before. um the lineup on Thursday. Where is what’s the source of that? Is someone walking down the Rogers Center concourse and delivering that to council? Or is council getting the three options like David Ross did and Joe and Joe Madden? Sometimes the analytics guys would walk down with the three options. What analytics support Ian Hap batting second? I have no idea. Who Who’s printing out that piece of paper? But why is council penciling him in second? Maybe that computer’s broken. Well, it’s been broke since 2018. And I got to tell you, Willie Castro as a lefty makes Jr. Candelario, that acquisition from two years ago look like uh uh uh Harman Kibru or something. I mean, this is I I mean, why is Willie Castro Listen, was that a Twins reference? That was pretty good. Well, yeah. I mean, it was a terrible reference because Killer Brew is a right-handed hitter, but whatever. Um, let me let me tell you something. Willie, let me let me let me read you something. First of all, Willie Castro, I don’t understand. He If you want to give PCA days, just sit PCA verse lefties. Castro is a great get verse lefties. Have him play center. Yeah, that’s totally fine. But do you want to know his numbers coming into today verse lefties? They’re doing this thing where some reason they’re playing him every day. 227 323 361. So basically Ian Hap council wants him to be an everyday player. No, he’s never been quoted as that, but but that’s I’m just looking at the lineups every day. He plays every day. He’s not a good hitter from the left side. Well, then why does he play every day in all these different spots? I’m versatile, too. I can play any position you want. I’m just not good. Can I ask you a question? And Michael Bush at leadoff is still I you know it’s two solo homers this series. At least he hit a couple homers. We just we’ll take anything we could get. No, but but but but there is guys that are that for the for the pirate series. Move them up. Yeah. And and maybe you take that in the Brewers series. I don’t have a crystal ball. Maybe they can hit a Ramis cleanup. So what’s your question they’ve been wanting to ask me? Yeah, it’s a good really good one. And you’re gonna hear that question right after this. Thursday. We still need to get to that. Sam, what’s your question? My question is who from a Cubs fan perspective, who are you rooting for this weekend, Milwaukee or Cincinnati? It’s a good question, isn’t it? Well, it is. And and and uh I’ll tell you who I’m rooting for. It’s a shame that the playoffs are the goal right now. And so I do I I think I do want the the Reds to to lose. Yeah, I think you’re right. I don’t want the Brewers to sweep though because I don’t want them winning two out of three or something. I don’t want the Brewers winning 20 their 20th game in a row on our field. But the Brewers don’t mess around. They They’re They push back Peralta to to be the first of the five games on Monday. They They don’t mess around, dude. Oh, they want to embarrass us. They’re having a bullpen game Friday against the Red Legs just so Peralta can lead off the week at Wrigley. Second quick question. Makes sense. Where’s your frustration? Makes sense. Go for the jugular. Where’s your frustration level going to be? Well, and not only does it make sense, but they also would rather lose to Cincinnati. Like, they really don’t like the Cubs. So, I understand, you know, maybe losing to the Reds Friday, they don’t care cuz, you know what I mean? They might be punting and then they score 11 or something. And don’t for don’t forget, you know where Cincinnati goes to close the year? Uh, Milwaukee. Yeah. Okay. Don’t watch that. And the Cubs host St. Louis. Yeah. just if that matters, don’t be surprised if the Brewers get swept. We might be at the last game. Um, how upset w will you be if uh it comes out at the end of the year if Tucker was playing hurt? I’ll be Yeah. Uh I’ll be uh because what’s the point at this point if he’s like like like what? He he he he he’s playing bad so why is he playing? I don’t know. I’d be upset. Yeah. I’d be upset. I know better for it to be anger. Could you imagine? Could you imagine? It’d be sad. I know we’re going to get to these videos. Could you imagine if the Cubs are like a game up heading into the last weekend on Cincinnati, they take two of three from from the Red from the Cardinals and the and the Brewers have have first place clinched and and and the best record and they get swept at home. They would have to investigate it, wouldn’t they? Yeah, I’m not sure about that. Could you imagine that? I I could the Brewers ruin our season twice by overtaking it, being the best team, and then eliminating us. Could you imagine? I You’re asking me to imagine it, so I can, but but I I I get out of it quick. I get out of that vision. Hopefully, it doesn’t come down to that. Owen Casey, 22 home runs at Triple A, really good slash line, plays good defense, his strikeout rate has plummeted. He debuted on Thursday. Uh had some good swings. Even had one or two, one great one for sure. Um I hope he’s in there this weekend. I really do. Where would you like to see him start this weekend? Yes. All right. We put out a call for listener videos. Uh this one I actually have some audio from Bryce from Iowa. Take a listen. Hey guys, this is Bryce. Uh longtime listener, not first time caller. Uh, want to congratulate you guys on all the success that you guys have had with the show. Really excited for you guys. Happy for you guys. Um, just wanted to chime in regarding the Owen Casey callup. Um, Matt gave me the privilege to co-host uh the podcast uh before the season started this year. And one of the segments we did in that show was uh Prospect Watch. And I told him, you know, I was excited to see what Matt Shaw can do at third base, bias, Alcantra, Horton. But the number one guy that I was most excited for and and the guy that I think that really has the opportunity to be successful in the pros is Owen Casey. Just a class act, good kid, um hard worker. Um just really excited for him. Hope he really gets an opportunity. um hope Craig and the front office use him correctly unlike how PCA and Alcantra were used at the end of the year last year just you know very sparingly pinch runner here things like that I just really hope they give Owen Casey a shot um and even if he doesn’t have success right away we just want to make sure that we’re not stunting his development because he has got all of the tools to be successful um so just wanted to chime in with that and just real briefly Sam, I know you’re excited that Iowa Hawkeye uh women’s golf is starting up soon. So, keep an eye out for that. And I know you’ll be uh staying in tune for that. So, go Hawks and go Cubs. Go Cubs. Oh, Bryce, thank you so much. That’s been uh my privilege to have a few exchanges with him over the summer and uh always appreciate his check-ins. I think it would be irresponsible to have Casey on the bench even Friday. Why not? Why not have Hap take a day? Put Casey in left. I don’t know. Put Casey not Hap doesn’t have to. He’s not going to be a bench player. But Casey could play left. Why? Why? Well, why does he have tenure to not be a bench player? Council is not going to allow that. That’s why. All right. I want to No, you know what? I’m starting to Well, I want I I want to read you Ian Hap’s monthby-month statline this season and you tell me what Starland Castro was a far bigger name than Ian Hap in 2015 and he got benched for a month plus and it changed his whole season. If if he could get benched, why can’t Ian Hap? I I don’t understand. This is Ian Hap’s line, okay? In March in the the eight games. Cup. That’s why. So what? Uh he batted 179 343 321 in the few games the eight games they played in March or whatever it was. Then he had a his his only good month of the year was in April. He had a 288 353. He only slugged 385 for a 738 OPS. But I’ll take that 288. Then he went 243 341 343 for a 684 OPS in May. Then he went 208 298. Found some slug uh uh with a 481 slug in June. July 179 and coming into today he’s hitting 222. I mean he he’s been bad all year. Wh why does he have this tenure? I understand why Tucker does he’s a he’s when he’s right. He’s a star level player. Let Ian sit and be a bench roll guy for a week. Maybe it gets him out of it. you Casey’s a better option. Let him play for a week. I’m following what you’re saying. I just don’t think it’s not like It’s not like Hap’s in a small slump. He’s not having a good season. I just don’t see it happening. He’s slugging less than uh 400. Let’s get to Tim. Hey, Matt and Sam and Lockdown Cubs. It’s great to be with you guys again and all the regulars. Hey, listen. I I I I’ll admit it. It’s been tough. It’s been tough to watch the Cubs after the break and um watching guys like Tucker and Seiya and and PCA struggle. It’s not been easy. But on the flip side, it’s been fun to watch Shaw uh make so much progress after the break. Horton, unbelievable 29 innings of scoreless baseball. Amaya coming off the IR or IIL, whatever they call it now, busting his butt down the field, down to first base to the point where he hurts himself in order to score a run. I think I could stick in there with my guys. 68 plus wins. We’re doing well. We’re hanging in there. Uh we need to continue to put together good strings of baseball. But listen, we’re Cub fans. We were born Cub fans. It’s not easy to be a Cub fan and I’ve been watching the Cubs since the 70s and um there’s been some good years and some bad years, but always be in the heart of of my sports uh watching will be the Cubs. So, uh hang in there everybody and uh let’s continue to battle. Let’s continue to fight for our team. Let’s continue to throw positive energy their way. Let’s continue to watch them and uh let’s hope that they make a run here. Listen, the Brewers are playing unbelievable baseball right now. But the Cubs are still in a position to do everything that they set out to do. Thank you, Tim, for your contribution. If you couldn’t tell, Tim’s a a football was a really good football player. It was a great video. That was a great video. No, thank you for your call, Tim. it. And I’m like he he I’m just gonna do what he says because he intimidates me. Okay. You know, that’s that’s that’s that sounds like a football coach to me. I know Tim text, you know, messaged you, Sam, off air about perspective and and weather. And if you couldn’t tell, I don’t play football, but but yeah, I I yeah, I do I do try to keep keep I know I do, but just it’s it is difficult in the moment because I I there was nobody more positive than me last night. What more do you want me to do? I compare the team to the great one of the greatest athletes of all time. I’m doing everything I can. Next time they win, I’ll come back and I’ll compare them to to Sugar Ray Robinson. And then the next time they win, I I’ll do Rocky Marciano. Whatever it takes. Here’s Ryan. Hi, my name is Ryan. I’m from Australia and I’ve been a Cubs fan for about 10 years now. Look, my biggest take in the last sort of month or two is just how bland and boring these games have been to watch and so frustrating really. Like, so we’ll have one game where we just can’t must any hits. It’ll be three or four hits. We might score a run on like a Danby solo shot. That’s pretty much it. That’s all we get for the game. And then we’ll come out on like a second game and the offense will just be booming and we’ll score six, eight runs. Everyone’s hitting a home run. we’re just looking so good and we’re thinking to ourselves and we say it on the podcast like is this the game that’s going to put us back into like a good winning streak but we look back and it doesn’t like we’ll go to game three and we’ll have a pitcher if that’s Cade if that’s Boyd Shoda and they will just throw their hearts out they will literally throw like six innings of three hit ball and we can’t muster anything we no one no one can hit in the clutch no one can score RBI’s and It’s so tough to watch and whether we do win those games or not determines if we win the series and it’s just it hurts. It really hurts to watch like how good we were at the start of the year, you know, passing with flying colors and then to have a 6 and 1/2 games back on the Brewers now. It’s it hurts. It’s like they just came out of nowhere. Like credit with credit to they’ve been playing great, but as soon as they started playing well, we just lost it. we couldn’t we we haven’t been able to do anything and I’ve got to get up early for these games like sometimes 6:00 7:00 like I’m a uni student I like to sleep in um but it’s just tough when I have to get up and watch some of these terrible performances it’s just it’s really tough but credit where credit’s due our starters have been immaculate the last two months like Cage Shoda Horton even a little bit of Ray like it’s just been so fun to watch them pitch but it’s just been disappointing we can’t back them up in the offense fantastic a call. Yeah, Ryan from Australia. That was fantastic. First of all, it’s cold in Australia this time of year. That’s why he was wearing a hoodie and and and stuff. I think it’s probably my guess probably be in the 50s. Um that I can’t imagine. We have great listeners, by the way. I can’t imagine having to wake up and alter your sleep schedule of to watch this team right now because I remember the Japan series. How brutal. waking up at a quarter to five to watch them score a run and that those games, you know, it I mean that was brutal. He’s doing that every day. Can you imagine? At least the game started a normal hour for us, but that changes in a week or so. Yeah. Big big West Coast trip. Nine games, I think. That could be it. They might be 500. All right, we have a few videos still to get to and so we’re gonna play those next week. Okay. Shout out to Brian, Taylor, Brady, and Matt. Uh, we’re gonna get get to those. Let’s do Should we do one more, Sam? I got Let’s do one more. All right. Here’s Brian, one of our longtime Everydayers. Hey, Matt and Sam, just want to say big fan of the show and thank you for for having me on and doing this. I love participating in these. But, uh, overall, I something’s got to change organizationally with the Cubs. I mean, it unfortunately it seems to have stemmed from Carter Hawkins. He has to be the first one to go cuz they’re not going to fire counsel. They can’t. He’s on the contract. They just extended Jed. So I’m He’s on the chopping block. But to me, it’s just unacceptable as a a not only just a big market team in general, but one of the be like biggest sports organizations in the in in all sports. You know, they you can say the Shadow Cups anybody. And even if they don’t watch baseball, they know the Cubs. They one they’re one of the the big three. it to to have the trade deadline that they’ve had to be this brutal against the Brewers, have the Brewers be this much better than them, it’s embarrassing. And you know, even like, you know, Rizzo’s quotes about the trade gun, like that ruined my entire week. I was so excited to finally be in a position to where like, oh, for the first time in four or five years, we could look at buying, we can look at at buying all these players and then to d like it ruined my entire week. I can’t imagine how it felt for the players and how gut-wrenching that felt. But yeah, it was just they have to be better as a franchise and as an organization. And you know, hopefully they they go out and, you know, win a wild card series uh cuz obviously the division’s now wraps and so hopefully they can hold off San Diego um to to get the top wild card spot, but who knows? Hold off. LA biggest fan right there. And also Brian, the the the the trade the trade deadline the trade deadline started this. And with that, we’re going to close up shop for the week. Uh would would love to play more videos. I do think giving a voice to to you, the Cubs fan, is critical to what we do here. And thank you again for all your support. Bench Tuck!
Owen can do better!!!
Tuck needs a reset. Maybe he can figure it out and be BACK for the September push!
Poor Sam….he's dying, and so am i.
The slump will end soon and they will get hot in September right before the playoffs. The Dodgers, Yankees, and Mets aren’t playing well either.
When your relying on 1 run to win a game, you're in trouble. Right now it seems that if they get down early in a game it just feels like an L, even if it's just 1 run. That's how bad the offense is right now. Once again, Swanson, Happ, Tucker can't drive a key run in to save their lives.
The problem with the Cubs is they keep swinging for the fences so they overswing and strikeout instead.
Make it or break it with Cassie!!
It is a pattern win one and lose two if not three. Yeah, we are contenders. It is over for me.
Root for the brews we're not winning the division….would love to be wrong.
I think the Cubs brass did nothing to help this team. And the team is responding to that by going down the drain. Someone needs to flip a f'ing table in the locker room!
Tell me again why Bellinger is playing left field for the Yankees and not for the Cubs. Belli batting .270 22HR 69rbi and only 62Ks…oh but he doesn't hit the ball hard enough…right?
I haven't heard anyone mention who I believe is largely responsible for the Brewers success.Pat Murphy. Counsell's previous bench coach. Now that Craig is out of his way he can make all the right moves. Think about it. Look at the Brewers record and the Cubs record since Craig left.
This team is tough to watch right now, and I’m limiting my attention to preserve my mental health. In fairness though almost every team has had bad stretches this season, even the Brewers. It’s just that the Brewers are playing out of their heads now that makes this swoon so painful.
Another theory. A possible cause for the letdown since the deadline. The players are sincerely disappointed about no major moves happening when EVERYONE was screaming big time help is on the way.
PCA could use a week in AAA. Seriously.
PLEASE GET RID OF HAPP. I AM TIRED OF IT.
Lately it’s been wash, rinse and repeat. Please let Tucker be Ted Williams for another team next year. Put the money into star pitching and players who have good bat to ball skills with slug. Tell Suzuki and Happ to waive no trade contracts or become utility players. For now, shake up the lineup. How about moving up Shaw, who has been the Cubs best hitter since the All Star break.
Can't say it was the trade deadline and then point to Tucker being bad since the beginning of July and Suzuki not far behind. PCA's funk may correlate to the end of July, but this team started their offensive f6nk way before that. Otherwise, why were we screaming for another bat? It was just Shaw.
"Continue to put good strings together!" What is Tim talking about???
Do you guys remember the first half when we had a stretch of 21 games vs under .500 teams. The bats were going crazy and we won 15 or 16 of the 21. Sure you have to play those games at some point but luckily they were in succession so we got extremely hot. You take that stretch away and we are pretty much average. Sam you mentioned earlier in the year, that you had a friend tell you that the cubs offensive barrage was kind of a fluke and they would all regress to the norm. Well that pretty much sums it up. Now we did lose our Ace for the season. Obviously that was eventually going to take its toll. But its not the P. Its the offense. It has always been the offense. It is who they are. I loved the way Sam asked the Sabermetrician on X about the analytics of Hoerner not batting 2nd. I never saw an answer there Sam. I get there is a level of respect between you two, but I think the guy has blocked me or something because he never answers me and continues to back this offense and more wierd that CC has never made a mistake to him.
Tucker is costing himself about 250 million. He’s looked disinterested and now frustrated. Superstars have to hit and carry the load. He does neither. I said it before, the Astros knew. Suzuki looks lost. Happ is this guy: .245, .325, .450 with 20 HRs, but having a slightly off year. The league has figured out how to pitch PCA. No strikes. He’ll swing. Kelly is a good story, but his numbers are skewed by a ridiculous start. I’m fine with Busch, Shaw, and Nico. Pitching is solid.
Happs gotta go… he hasnt been good for a long time.
Cubs fans – am I saying you’re overreacting? No. But baseball is a funny game. If you’ve played competitively you know what I’m talking about. All it takes is one thing. And I’m talking anything. A new inside joke to loosen things up. A sick comeback. A speech that hits you hard. As long as they get in they’ll have a shot. And I think they will
What can be said the whole team and organization sucks thats all I got to say .Love the broadcast have a nice day ,go Cubs I hope.
The brewers would not tank to eliminate the cubs 😭😭 they probably wouldn’t throw their 123 if they’re already clinched but they wouldn’t deliberately throw it away lol
Happ to the bench HAS to happen… Cassie starts in LF = upgrade… our bench then with a solid switch hitting proven player = upgrade
Since all-star break ..since trade deadline… bottom of order hitting better than top. Shaw and Hoerner many times get on base and top 4 or 5 guys can't get them around to score. It's really difficult to watch Cubs games these days
