Miami Heat Get HUGE NEWS From The NBA
[Music] We got some big news that we got to discuss here at the Heat Report by Chat Sports. I am Nick Rolloloff. Well, the Heat schedule was announced yesterday and I want to talk about it because there is a lot of stuff that I took away from the 82 game schedule release from Miami. And well, I’ll say this, make sure you do follow me over on social media, specifically Twitter. Nick_rolloff is my handle. I tweeted out my takeaways and full schedule in picture on my social media before coming here and making this video for you guys today. So, if you want wall- to- wall coverage on the Miami Heat, you got to go follow me over on Twitter. All right, so I got a lot of takeaways. My first takeaway, the NBA doesn’t respect the Heat nearly as much as they once did. And the Heat only got five national TV games. And to me, respect, notoriety, whatever you want to call it, goes into prime time, like the best teams usually do get a lot of prime time games. Yes. But it also comes in with the biggest brands in the NBA. And Miami simply having one of the lowest marks in the NBA tells us a lot of what the NBA thinks of the Heat roster as well as their brand nationalwise at this point. the five national TV games for Miami. Couple of them early on, then the other three in the new year. Both in November, in the same span of seven days, they play in New York against the Knicks on Amazon Prime. They host the Golden State Warriors, which we’ll talk about a little bit later on ESPN. They play in Minnesota on NBC at home against Houston and Philadelphia on Prime and Peacock respectively near the end of the year. They had five prime time games on this schedule. They had seven national TV games last season. So, a slight decrease. And if you just look at the trajectory of the Miami Heat, it has been on a downward trend over the last four or five years. Ever since Jimmy Butler joined this organization, they just simply have not gotten as many national TV games as you would usually see. And if you actually look at the entire landscape of the NBA, Miami has the eighth lowest amount of prime time games. They have five. There’s a couple teams in Chicago and Charlotte with three. And then the bottom of the barrel, Brooklyn, New Orleans, Washington, Toronto, Utah, all with two games. Like, I’ll be honest, like it’s a little crazy to see Miami grouped up in the bottom eight of the NBA with those other seven games, respectively. You would think Miami to be much better and much more of a national brand. But if we’re going to be honest in face the cold hard truth of this Heat organization over the last 3, four years, they have not been entertaining. They have been very mid and this is what happens when both of those things happen continuously. Even with Jimmy Butler, the lack of effort that this Heat team would give in the regular season and the amount of times that you they’d have star players miss time. Yeah, that led to a decrease in national TV games. And now with Hero and Bam, as much as I love them as your two leading guys, those aren’t going to draw eyeballs on TV, they might be a solid 500 basketball team, but no one’s going to care to tune in and watch them. And you got to be at least entertaining if you’re not going to be good to get more national TV games. What say you? Are you shocked by the amount of prime time games the NBA gave Miami this year? I tweeted out. I thought five was really low. Um, but I do understand where the NBA is coming from and I can’t really complain with it if we’re going to be honest. Type for yes or type for no. Second takeaway on the schedule, the Heat have 15 instances where they have to play in a backtoback. It’s obviously not ideal. It’s actually the second highest number in the NBA. Now, they also had 15, I believe, last year. I could be mistaken on that. I thought I saw that come across the timeline that they played in 15 backtobacks last year. Um, but it’s not like it’s egregious. There were only five teams in the association that have to play more backto-backs than Miami. Philadelphia, Denver, Phoenix, Charlotte, and Washington. All five of these teams play 16 back-to-back games this season. So, it’s not the craziest thing in the world. There are seven teams that play 15 back-to-back games like Miami. The six teams that join the Heat, Utah, Golden State, New Orleans, Portland, Toronto, and the Clippers. I will say usually if you are a really good basketball team, the NBA will do its best to help you out and not give many backtobacks. Like you notice that the Lakers aren’t in the top about 12. You notice that the Thunder aren’t. The Knicks aren’t. The Celtics aren’t. Sure, a couple good teams are like the Clippers, like the Warriors, but if you are in the top 10, I would say, of teams in the NBA, they’re probably not going to give you as many backtobacks. Don’t think it’s the biggest thing in the world. Like, I’m not going to overreact. I just wanted to share the big takeaways and prime time games and backtobacks are certainly some of those big items and that’s why we brought it up. But listen, everyone plays backtoback. So the truth is you’re good basketball team. You should be able to win back to backs and you shouldn’t be able to use it as an excuse. And I will tell you this folks, the first two weeks, three weeks of the year will be a very early indication on how this year will go. The first 10 games are brutal, man. You start on the road against two projected playoff teams. ignore the Orlando Magic and Memphis Grizzlies. I think the Magic are a top three, four team in the Eastern Conference this year. Memphis isn’t as good as the Magic are in my opinion, but they certainly are a playoff team. The Knicks are obviously at the top of the East. You get a break at home against the Hornets, but then you go on a 4-ame road trip against the Spurs, who are projected to be much better. the Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets, three playoff top six caliber teams in the West before returning home against the Horonets and Blazers. I’ll be honest here, folks, with that four-game road trip and the two games on the road to start the year, those six games on the road are tough, man. And the games you’re playing at home, those four aren’t easy either. If the Miami Heat are able to find a way to go 500 in those first five or 10 games, I think that would be a pretty solid start to the season. Like I I just feel like expectations should be tempered here with this basketball team. Do I think they will be better than they were last year? Absolutely. I would project a winning record for the Heat this season or at least 41 and 41 splitting the year. But it might not be a good start. So, if they’re able to show some teeth, show some strength and either come out of the first 10 games 500 or even with a winning record, I think that will be an indictment and very indicative of how well this season may actually go for this new look Heat squad. One more time, chatsports.com/miah hoodie sale. Fourth takeaway, there is always one massive West Coast strip. You had four straight road games in the first 10 games playing the Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets, and Spurs, but I would not classify as that as the classic West Coast trip for the Miami Heat. It comes in late January, which is actually a great time for the West Coast trip to happen. And the five teams that you’ll play in that week-long West Coast trip, play five games in less than seven days. Buckle up, folks. Warriors, Kings, Blazers, Jazz, and Suns. You see there, two backto backs in those five game span. And if we’re just going to be completely honest about this West Coast strip, it could be worse. Like I’m looking at those five teams like I think the Heat are going to be better than the Kings this year. I think they’re better to be better than the Blazers. I think they’re going to be better than the Jazz. I think they’re going to be better than the Suns. So when you think of four of those five teams on that West Coast trip, Miami is the better team in my opinion before the year than four of them. So you should be able to go three and two in that span. And I know you’re going to say, “Well, if the Heat are better than four or those teams, shouldn’t they do better?” Well, two backto backs and five straight games on the West Coast. It’s going to temper my expectations a little bit. But a three and two, fivegame West Coast trip in January, assuming the Heat aren’t absolutely dog by that time and the season hasn’t gone off the rails. Yeah, I’m pretty fine with that. It could be a gauntlet and you have to play the Warriors, Lakers, Nuggets, and Clippers in that span. At least you get three of those teams I just mentioned early on in the year. So, I’m not that mad with the West Coast trip that Miami is forced to play this year. Final takeaway, we kind of alluded to it a little bit earlier. Jimmy Butler returns back to Miami on Wednesday, November 19th. Is that going to be an interesting game? Oh, it absolutely will. Second time that he returns to the 305 to play his former team since the Jimmy Butler trade. We know how the first one went in late March. It was belt to ass. It was probably the best game Miami played all year long. No Steph Curry, yes, but they basically locked up Jimmy in that game and trounced the Warriors by 25 plus. So, will that happen this year? Probably not, but it will at least be interesting to see Jimmy return back to Miami once again. I hope that the relationship between the two sides eventually gets better over time. We know it’s not at the best position now. You blame Jimmy, you can blame Pat Riley, probably blame both. But hey, when that schedule comes out, when it’s a prime time game as well on ESPN, I know the Heat fans are going to be turned up for that one, especially since it’s early in the year. All right, I’m going to give you my early early early record prediction for the Miami Heat. But I want to get yours in first after seeing some of the highlights of the schedule. What will the Heat’s record be this year? Get down in the comments section and let me know. My prediction, I said I’m going to think of winning record. I’m high. Starting lineup of hero, Powell, Wiggins, Bam, and wear. It moves me. I think it’s solid with DaVon Yovic, Larson, and some others on the bench. Maybe you get some nice additions from Casper, Yakonis. I have the Heat being a winning record, 43 and 39. So, four games above 500. And I think that would be good enough to be the six seed in the Eastern Conference this year. Like, it’s going to be very bunched up. I I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. You look back at last season, the Detroit Pistons ended up being the six seed, which is the first team to get, I wouldn’t say a buy, but not in the playin. They went 44 and 38. So, one game worse can absolutely be the six seed with the Pacers taking a step back. You would think without Hallebertton, the Celtics are not going to be a good basketball team this year. I am very low on the Milwaukee Bucks roster. Sure, some teams will be improved like Toronto, like Philadelphia if they’re able to stay healthy, but I believe Miami will be able to do better than those five teams we just mentioned, which is why I think they could just ease their way out of the playin for the first time in three years, go 43 and 39, and make the playoffs and hopefully maybe even give a little bit of a problem for one of the top three teams. Do I think they’ll win a playoff series? No, I do not. But I think they could be scrappy and give the Cavs Magic or Knicks if those are in the top three seeds, which is what I expect and anticipate a tough series. Whether it goes five, well, probably not five, six, or seven. I wouldn’t classify five. It’s a tough series. All right, that’ll do it for today’s show. Appreciate everybody hanging out with us here. Hope everyone was informed by the schedule news. I know it’s not the most exciting topic, but I tried to make it a little bit more exciting and give you my takeaways, prime time games, and everything in between. Subscribe for more heat content.
