🔴LIVE 🔴Baltimore Orioles VS Houston Astros /August 15/ Mlb Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25
League’s ball on tap. It’s the Baltimore Orioles taking on the Houston Astros. First pitch coming your way next. Just about set to go now. And on the hill in this one, Christian Javier. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. A lot more guys striking out today, but when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and miss stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Popped up foul territory behind the plate. Diaz makes the grab. One pitch and one out. All right, let’s take a look at the Orioles lineup now. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now, Jordan Westber. And Boo, he’s their team leader in home runs. So, you know, the pitchers on that other side, man, they took a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting. You know, he’s got a lot of pop and it’s real pop. It’s not fluky at all. He can absolutely change the outlook of a game very quickly. So, watch out when he steps in. hammers that one deep left field and forget it. He’ll touch them all. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident with a low 90s fast ball. You have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient. Waited for it. Was like BP all over again. One out. Base is empty. And now the shorts stop. Gunnar Henderson. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. One out, base is empty. Next pitch misses. Two balls, no strikes. Javier maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, pitchers, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. And that one hammered and a foul ball. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? Well, partner, every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused, and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track, and then you have a great show. Uh, so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. Batting fourth, center fielder Ryan Mount Castle. Here’s Ryan Mount Castle. That one outside. One and0. You know, it didn’t take Mount Castle long to make a splash at the major league level. in 2021. He became the first rookie to lead the Orioles in home runs since Kurt Blephere in 1965. Up and in. And it’s 2 and 0. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you got a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Kick sandals just missed. Henderson leads off first with one away and fires in a fast ball at 95. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. Quick throw back in. lead runner holds it second with one gone. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Two on, one out. So, next to hit for Baltimore, Kobe Mayo fouled off left side. [Music] Two on, one out. Check swing and he went and it’s 0 and two. [Applause] fights it off. He’ll see another I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. The 02 ground ball right side. Could be two. There’s one return throw to first. Got him. Double play. And that’ll do it. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in Houston and today’s starter number 50. What do we need to know here? And a guy like this is going to keep you in the ball game. He’s going to go out there, compete, not going to see a whole lot of flare and flash, but he’s going to hand it over to the bullpen at some point. And if you’ve been able to score a few runs, you’ll be in it late. So, we’ll see if he’s able to do that for his club in this one. Bottom of the first, and the batter will be the shorts stop. Jeremy Pñena fouled off down the right side. And ball one. Curveball kind of backed up on him there. I think it just slid out of the hand a little bit too soon. [Music] The shorts stop takes a ball. And that one in the air center field. Mount Castle has a beat on it and he makes the catch. One down. Now we check out the Astros lineup. Not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games. Chris. Yeah. Boo. And that can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now. And that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs. So, we’ll see if everybody can just relax, bring things together, and perform at a level that they’re capable of. Jesus Sanchez, the next to hit, takes ball one. Next one misses and the count is 2 and 0. on the ground to third. Slings to first in time. Batting third. Second baseman Jose Altuve. Two outs. Base is empty. Jose Altuve up to hit here. That one’s in there. 0 and one. Check swing called strike. One ball, two strikes. cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. Astros go down 1, two, three. They’re down one- nothing. Second inning set to go. And now number 56. Number 56. Javier back to work. Javier 27 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. Well, a good slider from an opposite handed pitcher has to stay in that tunnel just a little bit longer. Otherwise, recognition can cause you to barrel it up. And right there, the hitter clearly couldn’t do anything with it. [Music] Swang and a miss. There’s that change up. Pitch misses and the count is two and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. makes the catch and there’s one away. Batting seven, right fielder number six. Here’s the rookie right fielder Jeremiah Jackson. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Fast ball for a strike. [Music] Jackson tries to hold up. appeal to first and he went around. That’s ruled a swing. That one blasted deep to right. That’s back there. And that one’s gone. His first homer of the year. And they tack on to their lead. It’s two nothing. [Applause] That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. So, one out, nobody on. This is Dylan Carlson. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. California kid played for his dad at Elkrove High School. His teammates there with Nick Madreal. [Music] That’s through there for a strike. One out. Base is empty and a run in here in the top of the second. Struck him out looking. Called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone. Well, that at bat seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three pitch strikeout. You’ve got to be better at the plate right there at least to foul something off. Extend that at bat. And here’s Alex Jackson. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. He swings and fouls one off. gets to it with a slide and they get the out. One in the inning and it comes from a rather unlikely power source. It’s now a two nothing ball game. Back after this on the show. Bottom half of inning number two. And now the first baseman, Christian Walker. One of the rare guys at first base that you almost think defense first. He is that good with the glove. You’re talking about top of the list elite defensive first baseman. Pitch misses inside. Ball one. First baseman are involved in just about every single play. So when you have somebody so solid over there, uh, you can breathe a little easier. swinging a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Palls it in and there’s one away. Batting fifth, designated hitter Victor. Vic Karatini at the plate. Victor slapped foul. [Music] Next offering in there for a strike. Throw and two. [Music] Got him swinging. Here’s the catcher to hit. Yer Diaz Diaz right through there for a strike. a one down. Laser could be troubled. Makes the turn and heads for second. And that’s a double. He was all over that one. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. So runner at second, two down. Raone up next for the Astros. He’s been on fire at the dish lately. can make it a five-game hitting streak with a knock in this one. Love how vocal the umpire is today. No doubt in the hitter’s mind, catcher’s mind, and even the pitcher’s mind as to the conviction in the call. Next offering is fouled back. Let’s go Astros. Man on second, two down. That misses the zone. It’s a ball in two strikes. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level, have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. Battling here as he fouls it away. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. into center and a base hit. Diaz around third. He’ll score easily. It’s an RBI single and it’s a one-run game. Comes through with the RBI. Just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field. Everything was on time. He stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center. So, next up for Houston, Cam Smith. And that’s in there at the knees. [Music] Two outs. That’s out. [Music] had a swing and a line drive at a right field. He’s there. He’s got it. And that will end the inning, but the RBI single pushes across a run and it’s now a two-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Top half of the third inning. Here’s the Orioles leadoff hitter, Jackson Holiday. Holiday. That one finds the zone. 0 and one and there’s a rocket into the outfield. Had a good start to the inning. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Now the number two hitter, Jordan Westber. He’s already homerred here in this one. And the pitch a little bit low. Ball one, the 10, and another ball. This is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play. That one misses and that’s ball three. Holiday gets his lead at first with nobody out. Let’s go Houston and ball four two aboard. Well, we’ve seen this recipe cook up a big inning plenty of times. Two runners on, nobody out. And they’re in the heart of their order. It’s just a great opportunity to put up a crooked number. First and second, no outs. And next for the Orioles, Gunnar Henderson, one for one with a single so far. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. This is an opportunity to do some damage, but you’ve got to be selective. Make sure you get a pitch that you can handle. Swinging a foul out of play. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. First and second, no outs. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. That’s down and in. One ball, two strikes. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Rounds third headed for the plate. He’ll score and it’s an RBI single. It’s 3-1. Well done. Drives in the run. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. Ryan Mount Castle now at the plate and he’s already singled in this game. Fast for a strike. You know, these Orioles doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mound. There’s a swing and a drive. This one’s out of here. Into the archways. Kiss that ball goodbye. That one felt good. His second homer of this series. And they add on. It’s 6-1. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. Chris, that ball came out hot. So, let’s see what Stackcast has to say. Yeah, it really did. Boo. 111 miles per hour off the bat and a really nice launch angle as well. Just a beautiful swing from start to finish and into the box for Baltimore. Kobe Mayo and first offering is fouled off. Well, a really rough inning out there on the mound and uh this is one of those where you learn a lot about a guy’s toughness and his ability to turn the page and keep pressing forward. And that one missing low pitch misses there. Ball two. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. From Valdez up and loosening in the pen or a hard throwing right-hander up as well. Inside corner and that’s called a strike. Two balls, two strikes way outside and it’s a full count. out of line out towards center. Melton makes the grab. One away. Here’s the designated hitter for the Orioles. Thought Chris through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. Still only one out here in the inning. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Warning track wall and you can touch them all. baseball man. It’s their second home run of the inning. It’s 7-1. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. the challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Christian Javier out of the game and the home run really bit him today as he exits on the hook for the loss. New arm coming on after the break. And from Valdez into the game and he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one in inning so he’ll be tough to get to. Base is empty, one away. Jeremiah Jackson the next to hit. He’s already homerred in this game. And first offering is fouled off. Hard ground ball base knock. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting leftielder Dylan Carlson the next to hit for the Orioles. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Slice down the right side. Here comes the one base knock center field and out to a board. So important to get into the fielding position after you deliver that baseball. That is a scary one. Watch your lips. Now the Orioles catcher, Alex Jackson. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat in the dirt. and downstairs. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. And a foul ball. That one misses. And now three in one. Jackson over at second. Carlson over at first with one away. And they’re all loaded up. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast. Jackson Holiday the next to hit for the Orioles. One for two. There’s a strike at the knees. It’s 0 and one. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. Swings through that one for strike two. fouled off and they’ll do it again. And a good eye there. 02 count. You got the opportunity to expand the zone. Could get the chase there. Let’s see what he comes back with next. the one two. Well, he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here. 2-2. He’s already seen the curveball couple of times in this at bat, so might have it timed up and ready for it. Still two and two after the foul ball. Hard hit left field base hit. One run across now. Two runs score. It’s 91. That’s backto-back singles for him. Really good swing right there. You got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. And now it’s going to be Jordan Westird. And first off is fouled off. Two on, one out. Foul ball there. [Music] [Applause] That one almost got him. That one is absolutely belted way back there. And it’s off the out of town scoreboard. Runner from second scores as they add on. Up next for the Orioles. Shortstop Gunnar Henderson. Two on with one out. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Gunner Henderson. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. Second and third here. One away. The shorts stop takes the ball. He’s getting a little frustrated out there on the mound getting hit around a little bit. Let’s see if he can settle himself down. Right through there for a strike. That one fouled off. Two and two. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. One run is in. Another scores. two runs in on the play and it’s 12 to one. We don’t see this a whole lot anymore where hitters with two strikes are willing to shorten up, tighten up and try to hit the ball back up the middle other way. He was trying to hit that hole, I believe. Very good at bat with two strikes. Manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Astros bullpen. Robert Valdez won’t go any further and as he heads off, he’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. A new pitcher in the game, Caleb Ort. Well, they need someone to stop the bleed and keep the score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging. It one gone runner at first. Ryan Mount Castle the next to hit for the Orioles. Ford keeping an eye on him. And first offering is fouled off. Hit in the air. Center field. Milton sizing this one up. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting first base Kobe Mayo. So a man aboard Kobe Mayo the next to hit for the Orioles. Bowl for two in this one. Let’s go. Fast in for a strike. 0 and one. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Fights that one away. And the count remains 0 and2. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Two outs. That’s outside and the count is one and two. [Applause] Yeah, that skips in the dirt. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Oh, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit. Try to move it around. create just a little bit of illusion at the end. Swings and misses struck him out. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Dyken Park as we go to the last of the third. Here’s the center fielder, Jacob Melton. Well, every pitcher wants run support and having a lead is nice, but it can be challenging for some pitchers. I think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse. go after hitters and get quick outs. A swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. Came after him with the fast ball on 02. And that’s a pretty good demonstration of what power pitching is all about. He’s got the stuff obviously and right there he used it to put his opponent away without needing to waste any pitches. MVP MVP and it’s fouled away. One down. Base is empty. That one ripped but fouled. And there’s a ball. One ball, two strikes. The shorts stop takes a ball. Next offering upstairs. Really good two- strike pitch right there. Surprised he was able to spit on that thing. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk man at first. Here’s the left fielder, Jesus Sanchez. He’s over for one. in for a strike. 0 and one. Come on. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Man at first, one away. on the ground is second. Might be two. There’s one over to first. Safe. Now batting. Second baseman Jose Altuve. Here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve. Struck out swinging his first time. Check. Swing. Called strike. And that’s downed away. Astros. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. nabs it and that is the third out of the inning. So the Astros leave one. They’re looking up at a 121 deficit. It’s a bit of a blowout now, which gives us a bit more freedom here in the booth. I’m not sure that’s a good thing. All right, singing. When you played, how much of a fashionista were you? Would you come to the ballpark dressed to the nines? No, I wouldn’t. Even on the road trips, I was, you know, pretty average. There were some guys that would dial it up and there’d be some outfits where you’re kind of double taking and saying, “Where in the world are you going?” But overall, I’d say I kept it lowkey. All one there. Yeah. You see some guys into the fashion nowadays and big on uh on the gram, as the kids like to say, post their their fits, right? That’s that what you say. That is that what it is? Fit. Fit. You’re fit. Your outfit. You’re fit. Got a little drip around the neck, too. Yeah. Believe it. Scale of 1 to 10, how old do we sound right now? Really old. Like close to social security benefits. Yeah. So next they hit for Baltimore, Jeremiah Jackson upstairs. Pitch misses. And that’s ball two. Two balls. No strike. Here we go. Astros. Here we go. Swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four that time. [Music] That’s a laser base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Well, when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. So, up next, Dylan Carlson. Check on the runner and he dives back in safely. Smoke to right center and this one’s going to go out of here. And they throw a pair on the board. It’s 14-1. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. That’s as big as it gets right there. You take advantage of a mistake. That is an ultimate. Here it is. Watch it. I’m going to jog around the bases. One out. Base is empty. And next for the Orioles, Alex Jackson. He’s 0 for one. That one missed. One, no strike. And there’s a fly ball deep right field. that skips over the fence. So, it’s an automatic double. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. And now Jackson Holiday, first pitch misses. Jackson the runner at second with one away. That misses the zone. Now two and 0. Just missed. [Music] Fast ball for a strike. Hit in the air right field and that one way back there and that is way gone. Really? He’ll circle the bases. Second home run of the inning for him. It’s 16-1. That was blasted. Absolutely. No doubt off the bat. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Caleb Ort departs and as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. New pitcher on now, Brian King. Definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone, makes hitters earn their way on base, and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes. Jordan Westber, the next to hit for the Orioles. Drove it off the wall last time, just missed out on a home run. Up the middle, Eluve handles it, whips it to first on the run. It’s there. And that’s a great play. Well, I’m impressed with this guy’s internal clock. He knew he had plenty of time to take that extra step, secure his grip on the baseball, and make a strong, accurate throw. Two down, base is empty. Gunner Henderson the next to hit for the Orioles. Three for three with three singles. Check swing called strike. Two out. Space is empty. And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] He goes down looking, but two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. And midway in the fourth, Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here in Houston. And now it’s Christian Walker. First baseman Christian Walker. foul ball. He’s been pitching well, but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order. We’ll know if he’s got really good stuff in this one or not. Pitch in the dirt and one and one. That’s a little bit low. upstairs. Three and one now. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. And first off is fouled off. [Music] Let’s keep it going. That’s inside. Let’s go Astros. Come on Astros. Squirts away a little bit. Tag save at second and good hustle to move up. That’s a wild pitch. Definitely trying to work down and get that double play ball, but it got away enough to erase any chance of that. Good job of moving up in the scoring position. Now a hit could make that wild pitch really sting. [Applause] swing and a ball hammered left field. Carlson ranging back on it. Gone into the Crawford box is a home run. So he blasts one out the other way. His 11th of the year. It’s 16-3. [Applause] That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. Stepping in, Yiner Diaz, known for his rocket arm behind the plate. That catches the zone for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Next pitch is outside. Swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. And down on strikes he goes. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Oh, you know that’s got to be very frustrating for this guy. He knows the strike zone extremely well. And you know what? Good hitters are not going to compromise. He’ll take that punch out, but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else. And now Raone Rias at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. that one down the line and that’s just foul [Music] and that’s outside and it’s one and two. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch. That just misses the countdown. Two and two. Didn’t get the result he wanted, but that’s a nice pitch right there. And they’ll do it again. 2-2 now. That’s down and in. Foul ball and it remains a full count. One down. Base is empty. Slice to right. Jackson squeezes it. Two down. Man, he smoked that fast ball. It’s all over it. It’s just frustrating when you can’t get it to fall. Maybe next time up he’ll find a hole. Two outs. Base is empty. Cam Smith up next for the Astros. 0 for one so far. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And there’s a ball. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. Two balls, one strike. [Music] Here’s a two-1. Hit in the air left field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that’ll do it. Two-run shot for the Astros this inning. We played four. You’re dialed into the show. And we’re back. Digging in. Ryan Mount Castle. [Music] King back to work and first offering is fouled off. You know, these Orioles really impressed me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work. So far, they have six hits in the counts where the pitcher has had the advantage. So, it hasn’t been easy for them, but they’re finding a way to get it done. Fast ball is outside. Let’s go. Stros struck him out swinging. Went back to the fast ball and it was effective. Now that and here’s the first baseman, Kobe Mayo. Mayo goes 6′ 5 in, 23 years old, and he was drafted in the fourth round in 2020. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Liner base hit. And now the DH. And that’s through there for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. And strike two. No balls. Two strikes. Mayo leads off first with one away. Got him. That K is his third of the game. I mean, there aren’t many curve balls in the sport today that break like that thing does. Huge movement. It’s so difficult to get on the same plane and even think about squaring it up, let alone get a piece and hope he throws something else to keep the at bat alive. Jackson in the box now. No balls in a strike. Swing and a base hit. Throw in holds the lead. Runner at second. Two on now with two away. And his hot hitting continues. They kept him in the yard that time, but all he’s doing now is passing the baton and everything seems to get started around this guy. Now the left fielder, Dylan Carlson outside and that’s ball one. Two aboard, two outs. [Music] Next offering is fouled back on the ground to the left and it goes just foul. [Music] Got him looking. He’s notched four strikeouts now. [Applause] And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the center fielder, Jacob Melton. Melton. And there’s the strike. Wow. That’s not even close to the zone. Next offering upstairs line drive and this might be trouble around first heading for two. The throw into second. Throws off target as he slides in with a double. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. And next to hit for Houston, Jeremy Pñena [Music] just missed. man at second. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Next offering is in for a strike. has been able to go inside as well as outside. Effectively working both sides of the plate in this at bat. And a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Now the number two hitter, Jesus Sanchez. [Applause] And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. And that is ball one. Activity in the bullpen for Baltimore. Number 76 is up and throwing for Brandon Hyde. One out and a runner at second. Last half of inning number five. on the ground to third. Throws to first in time. Good fade and sinking action of that change up. Got that hitter to roll over. Second baseman Jose Altuve. Jose Altuve will hit next. Fast ball for a strike. Melton stands at second with two gone. Hammered down the right side but foul. Let’s go Astros. Man on second, two down. Shoots a line, drive single into right center. Coming home. Here’s the throw to the plate. Not in time. He’s safe as a run scores. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. We’re under at first with two away. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Christian Walker. That’s in for a strike at 95 going one. Very well executed change up right there. If he can command the fast ball consistently, that’s going to be an important pitch in terms of him turning this outing around. That one ripped [Applause] and that’s a foul ball. Highf fly ball pretty well struck out towards right center. And that ball is gone. He sends one out the opposite way. It’s 16- six. [Applause] That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that and probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. Here comes the skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. number 50 won’t go any further. Got them some innings, but they didn’t come easy. New pitcher coming on and we’ll be back after a quick break. [Music] Yeah, baby. So, a new arm out of the bullpen for the Orioles. Number 76 hasn’t pitched in the last three days. [Applause] Yeah, that’s right. Victor Keratini up next for the Astros. And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] Two down and that misses and now it’s even one and one. Swing and a ball rip right field and that one back and that one is gone. They do it again. Backto back homers. his second home run of the game. It’s 16-7. [Applause] Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, Boo. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow. Two outs, nobody on. Yiner Diaz getting ready to hit. Tap foul at the plate. And now the one that one fouled off [Music] in the air pretty deep out to center field. brings it in for the third out. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. We’re through five. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. And now the catcher comes up to him, Alex Jackson. And that one fouled off. And the lefty with the 01 late with the swing there. Action in the pen down there. Jordan Williams getting ready to go. Do Santos getting loose as well. Astro. Come on. Just misses with that one. Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. Caught him looking for the K. Oh, nice job right there. He struck him out twice. The pitch before looked like it was strike three. Doesn’t get the call. Bears down. Throws another quality pitch for the strikeout. [Music] Swinging a foul straight back. Base is empty. One away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And that’s fouled off. And that’s a little bit high now. One and two. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. That one hammered left field. Sanchez ranging back. Just missed it. Jordan Westber the next to hit for the Orioles drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. That one hops against the fence around second now going for three. Safe at third with a triple. His third hit of the day. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension. And he met it out front for the line drive knock. Runner at third. Two gone. And now the shorts stop. Gunnar Henderson swinging a foul straight back. with a short stop. Takes a ball. Westber on third with two out. The one-1 is fouled off. Houston in the air left field. Sanchez gets under it and that is that back here in Houston. Well, we go bottom six. And stepping in for the Astros, Ramon Ras. Urias. Fast for a strike. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Tommoyuki Seagano is up and throwing for Brandon Hyde. lifted in the air out to left and that’ll fall for a base hit and the leadoff man aboard. [Applause] Now batting. So next up for Houston, Cam Smith outside low and that’s ball one. Rudder at first with no outs here. Highf fly ball out to center field. Mount Castle has this one sized up and there’s one down. Now batting center fielder Jacob [Music] So man aboard and next to hit for Houston, Jacob Melton hit headed towards the corner and a foul ball. [Music] Check swing called strike. Let’s get the win. Swings and blasts one deep to left center and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases coming home. He will score. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. So digging in Jeremy Pñena that’s in there. To third, slinging it to first in time. Now batting left fielder Jesus Sanchez. Jesus Sanchez up next for the Astros. 0 for three with three ground outs. Ball one there. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Carlson makes the catch and that’s the inning. One run, a pair of hits, no errors, and one left on. We’re through six full. The O’s lead this thing 16-8. Top of inning number seven. Here’s the center fielder, Ryan Mount Castle. That one missing inside. Swinging a drive deep right field. That one is back. Are you kidding me? And it’s caught just in front of the wall. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. And now the first baseman, Kobe Mayo, fought off foul. Little early on that fast. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an offspe pitch on this next one. One down. Base is empty. Check swing. Called strike. [Music] That one the other way. Altuve throw to first in time. Here we go. Come on. Now batting number 56. Next is the designated hitter. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. Swing at a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field and that extends the inning. Boo. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Now it’s the right fielder Jeremiah Jackson swing and a ground ball out to short and it finds its way through for a hit. So that’s two straight two out hits. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Now it’s going to be Dylan Carlson on the inside corner for a strike. First and second, two down here in the top half of inning number seven. And that is out of play. [Music] That one missed. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit coming home. The throw is wild and it gets away and this ball’s going to wind up out of play. So, a big time costly mistake there. Very costly error in the outfield on that one. Two runs come across. So, that’s just a tough one to swallow. You know, some errors you can get bailed out by your pitcher if he’s able to work around it, but not here. The damage is already done. Next to hit, Alex Jackson. And that drops in for a strike. Carlson at third with two away. That one inside and it’s a ball and a strike. The one-1 is fouled off. This one in the dirt and well done to keep it close. Two outs with a runner at third. [Music] Fouls it back with two strikes. and down on strikes. Good job at damage control right there. So, two runs in the inning on three hits, an error, and one left on. Seventh inning stretch time, Baltimore out front. 18-8. Bottom of the seventh and stepping in for the Astros, Jose Altuve. Jose Altuve. Altou, a guy who loves the first pitch. That time taking and it’s nothing in one. Here we go. Swinging a foul out of play. That one ripped left field. Gone. It finds the Crawford boxes. A home run. He flexes his power with that swing. His 22nd homer of the year. It’s 18 to nine. [Applause] Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. Now the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Number 76 is done. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. [Music] Tommoyuki Seigado takes over on the mound and he’s coming in to pitch on four days rest right here. And that might not be a factor at all in terms of being rusty, but he should definitely be well rested. And here’s the first baseman, Christian Walker, [Applause] and misses inside. One more. Let’s go. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in near the bottom of the seventh. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Mount Castle in position. Hauls it in for the out. Now batting the designated hitter, Victor Keratin. Now here’s the Astros designated hitter, Victor Keratini. And the way he’s going in this one, we’ve been waiting for his spot to come around again. All right, listen everyone. Stop what you’re doing right now. This guy’s got two home runs already. Now he’s going for number three. And that misses ball one. He swings and hits a fly ball center field that gets down for a hit. Hitting is really easy for some guys. It’s one thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. That’s in there. One ball, one strike. And that’s outside. Little bit low. And now three balls and a strike. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] Liner base hit. They fired in quickly. So it’s first and second with only one away. Now batting third base Ramon Ramon Ras now at the plate. And first offering is fouled off. [Music] And the slider catches the zone. One out. Runners at first and second. Ouch. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Now Cam Smith 0 for three in this one. and fouls one off. Line drive. Base hit. One run across the throw to third. In there safely. Now the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Tommoyuki Seagado done for the night and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching coming out for the Orioles, Kade Povich. Well, he struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit perennium pitch so far this season. So, one out with two aboard. Jacob Melton up next for the Astros. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Hey partner, how’s your scorecard looking right now? Little dicey kind of hieroglyphics style at the moment. You know what it’s like? Singy, remember our trip to London Yankees and Red Sox in 2019? I think there were there 50 runs scored in the two games combined. My scorecard was ugly for that series. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Pulled down the line. This one hammered, but it’s fouled. Yeah, pretty ridiculous. And you use like five different colors of pens, so like it’s just a mosaic over there. Yeah, I mean I I know you’re always judging the different pens. Like, you know, I got the skinny scoring pen and then I have the red and then the black and then I got a highlighter. So, there is a lot going on. Two on, one out. Swinging a miss. Struck him out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater now. So, two down now. And here is Jeremy Pñena. [Applause] That one ripped left field out of here. A threerun dinger. It’s their second home run of the inning and they cut into the deficit. It’s 18-4 and their fifth home run of the game. Some things in this sport are contagious, Boo. And right now for this team, clearly it’s the long ball. So, Singy, this is a little bit of a surprise. A guy known for line drives going over the fence. Well, if you’re a little too early, you’ll get some elevation in the ball. Get out of the ballpark. For him, it’s kind of a mistake, but you know what? When you have such a good approach, every now and then you’re going to run into one. Base is empty with two away. So, next up for Houston, Jesus Sanchez. Ball one, no strikes to the right side. And that one handled. throws to first. Inning over. Although plenty of damage done, but two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. Eighth inning coming up. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Daniel de los Santos. He’s been so good against lefties. And here is Jackson Holiday. Second base, Jackson Holiday. And a foul ball. Swanging a ball drilled center field. Melton moving under this one. And a quick out number one. Now batting third base Jordan Westber. So up next, Jordan Westber. He had a big swing for these guys way back in the first inning. Yeah, Boo. He didn’t waste any time in this one. The solo shot really got his team going and he’s looking for more right here. Pitch is in there. Strike one. Movement in the bullpen. Jordan Williams appears to be getting loose. base is empty, one away. And we’re in the top of the eighth just missed. Liner snagged it first. Well, baseball can be cruel, can’t it? I mean, sometimes it gives and sometimes it takes away. He did everything right on that swing, but he’s got nothing to show for it. Two down, base is empty. Gunner Henderson the next to hit for the Orioles. Stros. Smoked on the ground to second. fires over to first and that is the inning. Back here in Houston now it’s the second baseman Jose Altuve. Jose Alu Povich back to work. Povich goes 6′ 3 in 185 lbs and he was a third round pick in 2021. Flying drive and that’s a base hit out into center field. Solo runner aboard to start the inning. [Applause] Up next for the Astros. So now it’s the fourhole hitter Christian Walker. Walker. There’s the strike. Well, the laid-off man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully, the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. Do it again. And a foul ball. Nobody out. Runner at first. And a swing and a miss. down on strikes. Now one away. Now it’s the DH Victor Keratini Keratini just off the outside edge. The one swing and a miss. Strike one. Here we go. So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Music] Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Altuve the base runner at first with one out. bows it off. Still one and two [Music] ground ball could be two. Here’s Holiday for one. And it’s a double play to end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Ninth inning coming up. The Orioles lead it 18-4. And we’re back now. Here is Ryan Mount Castle. Ryan Mount Castle. And first offering is fouled off. And there’s a ball. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Foul ball there. The 2-2. We got full count. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Well, that’s the money maker right there. two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. Mayo now at the plate as he swings through strike one. Delos Santos, a guy that features an absolute power slider, throws that pitch a lot. He throws it hard and gets a ton of swings and misses. And that one wrapped foul and that’s way high. Two and two. And I think being able to expand with that pitch as you start to offer at it that he can move it just a little bit further away. Before you know it, you’re trying to hit a pitch that’s off the plate. One down, base is empty. That one not close. And it’s three and two. And that one pulled foul. [Music] strike three and that’s two in a row. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. So now here’s the DH number 56. He blasted one out earlier in the third. Just a solo home run, but an important swing of the bat in this game. We’ve already seen him do it once. Can he do it again? And the slider just misses. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the ninth. Check swing called strike and the count even at one. on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Nothing across here this half. 678 scheduled to start the bottom of the ninth. The Orioles on top 18-4. Back here at Dyken Park, we head to the bottom of the ninth. At the plate is the Astros catcher, Yiner Diaz. Yes, there’s the strike and ball one. That one back up the middle and it gets through. man aboard on the leadoff single. Ramon Rias up next for the Astros. Third base Ramonas. [Music] And that’s in the dirt. The Orioles leading by four here in the last half of inning number nine. Line to left. Fair ball. Throw comes in. Runner stopped. Second and third. Nobody out. Oh, this has been a really nice game at the plate for him. He looks locked in. He got a pitch he could get to out front, kept his bat through the ball and didn’t pull off or roll his hands over. And that allowed him to rip that ball down the line for the double. Now the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Cade Povich won’t go any further tonight. And he’s on the hook for the runners at second and third. So looking for some help there. Back in a minute. So they turn to their closer Year Cano. He comes in with a chance for his second save of the season. And now the right fielder Cam Smith. And that one missing low. Base runners at second and third here. No outs in the air right field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s one away. Now batting center fielder Jacob. He’s two outs away. Jacob Melton up next for the Astros. Fly ball to the outfield for a sack fly. Soft ground ball to the right side. Find a hole. He can attack this a few ways, but the one thing he can’t do is strike out. Off the mark there. Ball one. And that drops in for a strike. Fouled off to the right. [Music] Astros up the middle. Now two away as they get a run across. So, it’s their last chance in this one. Here’s the Astros leadoff man, Jeremy Pñena. You just have to find a way to keep this game alive. This place will go nuts if you do. right through there for a strike. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Coming home, the throw in. Tag. Got him. And that’s the ball game. Nice work out of the bullpin for that first MLB WBoo. They’ve turned to him when they didn’t have the lead. He kept things steady and he’s rewarded with the W. Highscoring ball game in this one as the Orioles win this one. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
