Philadelphia Phillies vs Washington Nationals (08-15-25) MLB Game Predictions, Picks and Best Bets
955 956. We’ve got Zack Wheeler in the Phillies – 187. McKenzie Gore and the Nats at plus 164. Total of eight. Some juice to the under at minus 115. All right, Kenny, we were talking a little bit about the Phillies. They’re going to do this six-man rotation. Doesn’t seem to affect Zack Wheeler in any way, nor should it. Uh, I ended up taking the Phillies double result here. even money. Uh I’m not a big fan of Mackenzie Gore. He’s really falling off. And of course, we talked about him killing my 11 leg parlor the other day, but he’s just inefficient. Puts a lot of guys on. Wheeler is Wheeler. I think Wheeler dominates here. The one concern would be will the Phillies score early enough and a couple hitters in their lineup strug like I know Castianos is really really struggling over the last several weeks or week or so. Uh but I think the Phillies get to go here and get the double result. What do you think in this one, Kenny? Phillies Nats. I apologize, Kyle, but I I I think if I had to bet this, if I had to bet it, I think I’d be going the other way here. Um I I just I think the Nationals price is is really good. I know that Gore has been all over the place since the All-Star break. He had a couple of abysmal starts. Um but clearly found it last start. Went into San Fran against the Giants. Three hits, 10 strikeouts. Kind of what we were seeing from him pre-allar break. Um it’s also a guy that’s had a lot of success against us in this particular lineup. I think his first start of the year he struck us out like 14 times. So like I I I I think I have more faith in Gore than some of the more recent results indicate uh to start. And then secondly, man, like and long-term wise, I’m not hitting the panic button yet, but like I need to see a really quality start out of Wheeler before I start looking at him as like as like an automatic win. I mean, I watched the last game, it he was okay. Um I think very clearly like nursing the shoulder a bit, you know, when when he’s feeling good. I mean that fast ball can can float around you know 97 98. He was around you know mid 94s last game which is the kind of the lowest fast ball vo that I’ve seen from him. So again I don’t know if that was sort of a conscious choice by him to you know ease ease the shoulder a little bit. I know that they extended his uh the gap between his last start to to give him some extra rest. So I I I don’t I don’t know. I it just it’s a weird spot and I think the Nationals price is is so juicy here that I I actually think if you’re going to bet this, that’s probably the side to be on. But this is one that I’m just going to stay away from. Excuse me. Interesting. Bdub. So, I’m back in Wheeler here. And uh Kenny’s right. His last four or five starts, he has not been dominant. He’s given up what two or more runs in each of those uh five starts over his la over the last month or so. But for me here, and I’m glad he brought up that first start. I think the Phillies remember this guy. It was kind of a story for a couple days coming out and dealing striking out 13. I think the Phillies get to him here. Uh the offense makes me nervous early. Sure. And of course, Gore, there’s there’s a world where Mackenzie Gore just goes out and pitches well and neither of these teams score in the first five and I lose. I get it. Uh but in a vacuum here, give me Wheeler over Gore. What do you think in this one, Pet? I I think it might be priced a bit high, Kyle. I’ve got it at minus 145 for the Phillies and they’re in the market at minus 184. I think if you play it though, you go first five. I don’t like this Nationals bullpen. They’re 25th in baseball. You know, the offense is Philly sixth in baseball to the Nationals 24th. So, you get a big edge there. And Kenny made a good point. I think you guys both did um first of all, he’s been over his last five starts collectively. If you look at it, he’s been damn good. 41 strikeouts and only six walks. But if you look, Kenny made a good point about uh and this is sometimes when you can get an advantage I if you follow a team closely and and I know he’s Philly fan all the way, which is good because we when we’re talking about uh Zack Wheeler, he can kind of get into not only what the stats say, but what the eyes say. And uh I think that what he’s saying is the eyes don’t to the eye didn’t look very good. And there was a little bit of a a velocity tick down uh about 2 miles per hour in his last start. And so there’s talk that maybe there’s there’s a little bit of fatigue there. So for me and then then on conversely you have Gore who was really good and and Kenny mentioned uh another good point about how good he was but he did say San Fran which I’ve been told we can’t do San Fran. It’s San Francisco the city or you could refer to it as the city. So he p he pitched very well in the city. I went to college up there and they are you going to the city? I said it’s it’s not the city, it’s a city by a Bay. But anyway, I digress. I think that there’s enough enough volatility uh with Gore to kind of just stay away from this game altogether. And that’s what I’m going to do. No play for me. In fact, after the Jesus versus Lord matchup yesterday. I I don’t know if I’m play this any of these these games in this series after that one, Kyle. Yeah. Someone says that they were mad at you for not doing dad jokes yesterday for G. I’m like, we did a hundred of them. I feel like we did at least 150. Uh we we did great angles too figuring out the pitch mix, you know, new age pitching versus old age pitching. I think we did a lot. Yeah. No, I think we’re in reference to Corby’s Escapades there in Las Vegas. So yeah, the backdrop, the Corby’s backdrop, he he looked like, you know, I I didn’t get to mention this, but Corby’s backdrop yesterday looked like, you know, those old movies where they have the hotel, they have all the little cubby holes for the keys. That’s what it looked like to me. So well, he was in one of those old timey hotels in Fremont there. It’s those old tiny saloon type hotels down there. It’s pretty cool down on Fremont Street as long as you stay under the lights. But uh for purposes of the show, I’m going to lock in a controversial pick here. We’ll see what happens. I’m going to take the Phillies double result and take that at even money. Heat.
