Brady Tkachuk Says Harassment over Gambling Must Stop

  1. Maybe they should call out the NHL for shoving gambling ads down our throats every chance they get. The NHL has put gambling into every facit of the game, and unfortunately, that will have positive and negative outcomes.

  2. Nothing will be done until someone in one of these leagues has something bad actually happen to them as a result of the commissioners getting in bed with sportsbooks. Then the commissioners will magically try to sort it out.

  3. Maybe start to restrict or outlaw gambling again. Gambling from a cell phone is awful. It is bad enough when it’s in casinos and when sports leagues are in bed with legalized gambling.

  4. NHL: *Shoves gambling down our throats every possible second, a particular risk for former addicts.*

Gamblings addicts: *Starts harrassing the league/players over losing money.*

    NHL: *Shocked Pikachu face.*

I’m not condoning the harassment, there really isn’t an excuse, but the league can’t be encouraging something addictive then be surprised that addicts act like addicts.

  5. Maybe tell the league you work for to stop promoting gambling every single minute then?

  6. The harassment over gambling should stop for sure. But the players are also paid a cut of gambling income through revenue sharing.

Here’s the solution… Get rid of gambling and/or stop the constant gambling advertising, which many players participate in.

If the NHL proposed to players that gambling is finished, and there will be a corresponding reduction in salary, how many players will sign on?

You can’t have it both ways, Brady.

  7. Extremely predictable that there will be a bunch of spot fixing scandals across sports within the next few years, because why wouldn’t you if you were a player. Then the commissioners will finally have to act

  8. He’s not wrong but if you read the article it just amounts to people trolling him online and him being a huge baby about it. I don’t think he could handle being a baseball player.

  9. Never bet more than you can afford to lose or just don’t bet at all. Even then, that’s hockey. Absolutely well said for him to tell those losers off.

  10. Wasn’t it so much better when the NHL pedalled military service and alcoholism and it only affected the viewers?

  11. Could you imagine if Gretzky was commissioner, the gambling would be ramped up.
They’ll be laying down bets on what the player ate that morning, whether he went right to sleep, or had sex last night,
how badly his toddler wore him out the night before, if he took a shit in the morning.
The gamblers anonymous toll free number, (that’s already really small on the screen) would be shrunken down more.

  12. It won’t end anytime soon. Gambling ads are everywhere and people are pushing gambling on every platform. Shit is so annoying.

  13. Canada’s star hockey player? Dude he is American. He plays in Canada and what was the comment about his physique? Is this r/hockeycirclejerk ?

  14. Gambling shouldn’t partner with sports, you are just asking for problems by creating these perverse incentives.

Maybe focus on ending blackouts and letting fans see all of their teams game on a streaming platform.

  15. Completely anecdotal but it does seem most game day threads since the introduction of gambling have become a lot more anger filled and win urgent than years past. Star players bashed for not out performing. Young players slagged for developing too slowly. Roll players given unrealistic expectations.

Maybe it is just social media in general but I feel like the heightened emotions have actual money riding on it.

  16. This is the worst interview I have ever read. Did an intern write this? Reads like it was written by AI.

  17. If I was a pro athlete, there is zero chance that I’d be on social media.

You see some who use someone to run their accounts just to boost their image, but outside of that, there is no value.

  18. I really started to hate it when the betting companies are sponsoring the podcasters that are just talking about my team.

I was a delivery driver and listening to the podcast daily and hearing that shit everyday was annoying as hell. I still listen every now and again, but it shouldn’t be as pervasive as it is.

Fuck off with the gambling. Didnt Evander Kane and some Senator get caught gambling on games they were a part of? It probably should’ve ended there.

  19. The game is over with sports gambling unless it is made illegal again. I mean look at the progression in how other leagues have dealt this. 35 years ago Pete Rose got a lifetime suspension for gambling. The NBA made MJ take a few years off when he got caught. And then last year, MLB covered up the Ohatani situation when it was clear he was using an intermediary to place his bets. There is very little keeping any of the major sports leagues from becoming boxing at this point. And when fans realize it’s a rigged casino and no longer a sport, many will lose interest.

  20. If we’re going to post AI slop can it at least be proofread AI slop?

    >Tkachuk did not hold the bag. He said people were constantly sniping at him for certain plays that didn’t come up with the bookie, accusing him of bearing responsibility, or even demanding refunds.

  21. How about gambling must stop. The fact that everything is gambling based in sports these days and people lose everything because of it, including players, is beyond comprehension to me.

  22. The insidious thing about sports gambling is that they can cut you off for any reason, including winning. So if you’re actually good at it, you’re also screwed.

  23. Addicts dont have the executive function for reason.

Gamblers are just as bad as crack heads.

  24. Maybe he should stfu or tell the NHL that partnering with gambling sites is a net loss for society

  25. The purpose of legalizing vices is to mitigate the societal effects. They’re legalized, but we control how they’re legalized. Alcohol and tobacco are legal, but we regulate the shit out of them. There are age restrictions, restrictions on how they can be sold and advertised, invest in education, prison sentences for people who break the laws, support for addicts, etc. We’ve lifted the stigma from alcohol and drug addiction; I have friends who are recovering alcoholics, I don’t drink in front of them and we’ll do stuff that don’t involve it.

It’s the Wild West with gambling and the sportsbooks, nobody seems willing to put the safety guardrails.

  26. Can someone explain to me why gambling is the thing everyone is against companies advertising? I’ve never understood it.

  27. So he can harass my favourite player and expect me not to get my lick back 😂

  28. Gambling sites have the NHL in handcuffs now. No way anything changes unless it makes them money.

  29. The 2 pitchers for the Cleveland Guardians being suspended for their suspicious pitches in games recently is a scary example of the fact that maybe not all pro athletes “don’t care about your parlay.”

  30. When you take the ad revenue that pays for the tv contracts that pays for your salary maybe there is a cost for that. These ads annoy the hell out of me.

  31. It needs to go back to the underground market. People are way too comfortable being pricks over their own shit decisions to gamble their money and blame the people they wagered on.
