VIKINGS-PATRIOTS RECAP: WINNERS & LOSERS!

[Music] Shimmy, shimmy, yaw, shimmy, yaw, shimmy, yaw. What’s going on, Jeromes? That was maybe the most invested I’ve been in uh a preseason game in quite some time. Just like right at the end, Vikings go for the tie. You know, obviously no pre no uh overtime in preseason games, but just couldn’t do it. Just couldn’t do it. Also the highlight Kevin Oonnell miked up for the third quarter dropping fbomb. It’s great stuff. But uh Max Maximus Brosmer just couldn’t get it done at the end where you know Brazmer is going to get blamed for a lot of things but overall he was definitely a winner for the game for me and we we’ll get into it. The O line as receivers didn’t do him any favors. Hya hya. Also, we talk about Miles Price. Like, this was a game where it’s like there was a lot of good and also some bad, right? So, Miles Price, you busting off those kick returns, but then dropping the potential game-winning pass. Aya, but either way, I understand that Howell was going up against the Patriots first team defense. Bros, we’ve said this for weeks. I feel like Brosmer is the second best quarterback on the team. And hey, let let’s find out. Put them with the twos against the twos. Have them play all the preseason game uh next Friday against Tennessee. Do it up. So, we’ll see. Anyways, we got winners and losers from the game that was uh first up, punt returner, Miles Price, not wide receiver, Miles Price, punt returner. Actually, no. Uh just return man in general. So he he had a couple nice uh punt returns including a 20- yard and then bust out that 81 yard kick return which is such a Vikings thing. Hey 81 yard kick return. We’re down at the eight. We settle for three. Great. Awesome. Uh but like we said dropped the potential game winner just like it was right there like yeah it was in triple coverages right in the hands. Tried to one-hand it. Hiya. Hiya. Uh Max Bromer. Bro I’m sorry. Bromer bromer. Bros, Bromer Slutter, slaughter slaughter, whatever. Uh, but he he’s going up tempo right away. Uh, playing the full second half and it was just it was clear that they’re trying to see what they had, right? And you 15 to 26 for a buck 56 interception right right at the end. Uh, so don’t even count that one. It’s whatever. But four sacks, eight pressures by the offensive line, second team line, no bueno. And then also four drops by his receivers. It’s not great. It’s not great. But I I do think because of his accuracy, his placement, his his uh ability to sense pressure, buy himself a little extra time. I just getting rid of the ball quick. I feel like there’s something there. Certainly feel like there’s something there. Uh winner number three, where the throw rocker, he’s the the dirty man is back for a four long 54 w with both holders as well. It’s good to go. It was like right in John Parker Roma’s face like we don’t need you. Yeah. Uh winner number four running back Xavier Scott. Uh so I mean Ty Chandler was fine. Also had some some good pass blocking reps especially against Milton Williams was in there early. But I think Xavier Scott should be running back three. Scott he’s actually a better receiver than Ty Chandler which is kind of saying a lot. But yeah but again former wide receiver converted running back. He runs weird, but I I can’t take my eyes off him. He’s a tough dude. He’s tough to tackle. Uh 10 and 28 rushing, three for 44. The Vikings screen game. And we said like in training camp, the Vikings have been working on a ton of screens. And you you always wonder, it’s like, hey, is this what they’re working on today specifically, or is this going to be is this a feature or a bug? Like, is this going to be part of the offense? Looks like it’s going to be part of the offense. All right. Also, winner number five, Carrie Jay Woodson. So, yes, did have the missed tackle on the on the ChiSM touchdown, whatever. But, uh, pass break up on Henderson with the wheel route, had six tackles, and overall just flying around making plays. He he really did look like, uh, one of the best Vikings defenders out there today. One of the other great Vikings defenders, defensive tackle, Elijah Williams. Elijah for the 53. I feel like we’re at that point, especially with Levi Drake Rodriguez dinged up. He may start the season on the injur on injured reserve, right? So, I I think Elijah Williams is definitely proven it. Uh and also, as we said, always bet on the UDFA try out guy. Uh but he’s got a shimmy. He’s got a shake. He blows up a gap. Great against the run hustle as well. Four tackles, four pressures. Like he a couple tackles for loss. Like he was doing work, man. Winner number seven, wide receiver Tim Jones. Again, wide receiver Tim Jones. Uh five for 68 from Bros. The connection is legit. And it’s so funny because you see it in practice where, you know, Tim Jones on a nine round on the left sideline, you know, from the X spot and and Bros are just like whatever. Connection, connection, connection. Then they do it in a game. It’s like, oh, it’s why they lift all them weights. Yeah. A Shawn Jones also uh you know, four for uh four for 39 on six uh plus the big time fourth and 17 conversion. Yeah, I have something there. All right. uh Tier Ingam Dawkins uh who’s been getting some work with the the first team defense as of late. I think that he’ll actually have a role uh come regular season because especially early down he’s solid against the run and he’s very good at setting the edge. Uh also nice tackle for loss on Michael Anwenu. That’s right. Uh the the stud Patrius right guard 20 million a year. The pride of Michigan. So T doing some good things also getting pressure on fourth downs. Good. Zomaya Vaughn awesome. So he was uh he started along with with Nudy and Dwight Mcloth uh or excuse me Nudy and Mai Blackman uh had a couple nice tackles was in on a corner blitz as well. He his length is stunning and also definitely held his own in one-on- ones. It just he’s like a power forward to playing cornerback. It’s cool to see. Uh winner number 11 uh linebacker Kobe Jones. Uh the was it six round pick out of Penn State. Yeah. Uh but also you he’s known as a two-down thumper, but uh he was solid in coverage, you know, covering Trevian Henderson, who’s going to be a star in this league, by the way. I I it really sucks that Trevian is just busting out because now he’s not no longer a fantasy sleeper. So, whatever. But, uh Kobe was out there, you know, playing three downs when he was there, wearing the green dot, getting the defense called and lined up. Uh he’s a true leader. Five tackles out there as well. And plus, coverage-wise, I feel like things are coming along. Yeah, Gabriel Murphy, you know, setting the edge against the run, which is a huge part, uh, which is a huge part about being a three down player because, you know, you can rush the passer, right? Also got a bunch of quick pressures out there. Hey, Bo Richtor almost had the gink six, which is cool to see. Austin Keys. So, one of the reasons why Osmo’s let go because I feel like they like Austin Keys, they like Mosy, they like some of these younger offball linebackers. Uh, but good work on defense. uh recovered the the Ty Felton fumble on the kick return, which Aya Versan Lee, I’m sure his PFF grade is going to get shredded, but he did have a couple nice reps coming up for Blake Brandle at at right guard. Then, you know, nice block for Xavier Scott on the screen. So, Lee like he he is mobile, agile, hostile. Could be something there. Also, no tackle Takammani. Uh huge throwdown stop late in the game. Gave the Vikings a shot. Uh then putter Oscar Chapman, banana ball. Uh had a long of 58 yards u and two good holds for Will the Thrill, which is a major part about getting the punting spot. So I don’t know. I I feel like the Vikings will hang on to right because of his chemistry with Depala and Riker. And Chapman, international pathway player, doesn’t count against you on the practice squad. So maybe they’ll just do it like that for now. But I mean, Chapman might might have a spot. Who knows? Uh, room for improvement. Room for improvement. Sam Hall. I Yeah, like I I I know we’re gonna get Sam Hall’s mom in the comments again just like shredding us. Don’t care. Like Sam Hall was just not good, right? The his again I I know that he was against a first team defense for the Patriots. Milton Williams out there and stuff and the Vikings, you know, playing second and third teamers around Sam, but also I I do not care. Uh, one for five for 13 yards and the one completion. uh was, you know, the dump off the the veteran tight end Bennett. Uh the interception was just terrible, right? And I I don’t know if it’s it’s his game or if it’s it’s a byproduct of going up against Florida every single day, but he was seeing ghosts. Like he was seeing fan of pressure. He was actually getting pressure, but also the interception, he literally spun into into pressure, right? He had a clean pocket. He spun into pressure and the interception he literally just threw the ball away like like now you see why he led the league in interceptions his one year starting in 2023 for the commies. Yeah. Lucky Jackson drops. So yeah, two in game. He he’s had a bunch during this week. Like he probably has like five or six drops this week. And for Lucky he Let me tell you about a wide receiver named Lucky. Lucky had a chance. He he’s been running with the ones. I I I don’t know if he has a firm grip on a 53man spot anymore. I don’t know because Deshawn Jones, especially with Addison uh suspension, Naylor left hand is jammed up. I mean, excuse me. Uh Lucky Jacks, I I don’t know. Yeah, I just don’t know. Like, he could have been getting some run early in the season, but who knows now? Who knows at this point? Also, um the second team offensive line, like we said, four sacks, eight pressures for Brosmer in the Bromer in the second half. Hey, hey, yeah. Starting defense against the Patriots. Uh so, first first drive wasn’t bad. Second drive, they just got dogwalked. Uh nine plays, 53 yards, and a touchdown. Uh but also, I mean, Trevan Henderson was like a cheat code. I mean, third and 10, you you just dive dive it up with Henderson in the two-hole, you get 11 yards. That’s just disrespectful. punt and kick kick coverage. I mean, coach hat, come on. Uh, we got to get something going here because they allowed a 37 yard punt return and then a 60 yard kick return before the half is just lane discipline breaking down. Maybe some guys playing trying to play some hero ball. Don’t know, but wasn’t good. Uh, Felton fumbled kick return. Yeah, just ball security is major part of it. Uh, Tim Jones special teams. So, we had to separate because Tim Jones wide receiver good. Tim Jones special teams bad, right? because he he got called for another special teams penalty. That’s he had three and like five quarters of football in the preseason. Uh the rest virtual measurement. So clearly I mean even the lines weren’t there like you eyeballs like oh this is a full yard short but they they took the time out and then they’re like ah it’s short. No no no poop. I I understand that it’s new technology and stuff, but yeah. Uh but that’s the reason why, you know, beers are, you know, 12, 13, $14 at these NFL stadiums because they have to they have to have the six cameras that triangulate where the football is. Can we just look first down? Uh number nine, Brett Brett Ripen asks, so Ripen was okay in two-minute drill, but the rest of it. And lastly, number 10. All off seasonason dur in the draft season, I was championing at the bit just a little bit for Fton Chisum III as a UDFA guy. Bring him on in like Eastern Washington. Go Eagles. It’s the only time I say go Eagles, but I don’t know. Like we we deserve like a souped-up Chad BB. We we deserve like a souped-up Thomas. Chisum could have been it. What? Chisum like destroyed uh the the Vikings uh starting defense or starting defense. Six for 71 and one on six targets. He ate. Come on, man. Come on. Anyways, overall like like I said, that that’s probably the most dialed in I’ve been in a for the ending of a preseason game in quite some time. Probably going back to like Kyle Slutter had the game winner, was it against Seattle or something? That was good. But I think we got some in Bromer. I think we got some in Mouse Price. I h just put M have Miles Price make the 53. Have both return jobs. Oh, by the way, my guy Silus Balden that one punt return that he had where we let the ball bounce.
