All Steelers Highlights from Preseason Week 2 vs. Buccaneers | Pittsburgh Steelers
Tonight, Bucky Irving is in the back field and he gets the handoff. Trying to spin away from tackles. He’s going to end up losing yardage as a result. The second effort did not work well. Juan Thornhill comes up and he had a big hit last week and he comes up and diagnoses that thing beautifully. And they love what he’s doing on the backside. Last week he had one tackle, 29 on the season. But here he is understanding where the cut back is happening and he cuts off the defender right there. Beautiful play by Thornhill. All right, so it’s second and 16 now. A loss on the first play, penalty on that one. Up the middle goes Irving. And again, this is Cole Hul. Big play there and he’s coming back from that injury we talked about on the rehab that followed and he’d be great to add to that interior of the defense. Yes, we saw the change of direction last week against Jacksonville with one tackle last week, but here he is right here. Clean up. Back to you. All right, Missy, thanks very much. Always good information on the sideline. There’s a pass that’s intercepted right there by Zion McCullum. He threw in the coverage of Mason Rudolph that was intended for Kenneth Gainwell. Looks like eight or a starter for them. All right, second and eight now. Bridgewwater has his pass block and that’s Keanu Benton who gets his big ball up on that one. Defensive lineman always aware and he’s gotten better at that. He needed to see more of it in 2025. It was a nice play action there. They had the linebacker fooled but Bon he was not fooled. He read the quarterback all the way. If not, you see right behind him, that could have been a potential big game right there. Beautiful play by Ben after the loss of three for Teddy Bridgewwater. Going to the end zone here looking for his man and he has Bucky Irving. That’s a touchdown of 15 yds. He beats the coverage. Irving’s been running the ball with no success. This time he lines up, gets a pass. Pton Manning Pton Wilson was back there and that is a touchdown for Tampa Bay. And they take three off the board. They put three more on and Peyton Wilson was in good coverage just wasn’t able to locate the football. Nice pitch and catch by the Bucks. All right, so that running into roughing the kick or whatever they call that’s critical to this touchdown. All right, it’s under review. All the scoring plays are under review. Question is, it looks like he has possession of the ball. But the but the ball Steelers defense trying to get off the field settle for three in the end zone. Eckles in cover has that one and it’s a touchdown. He’s the number one pick out of Ohio State. That’s a five yd score from Bridgewwater to Ibuka and Nicholls was there but it was just a really good pass and catch. It really it really was. And as we look at this replay here, how much room does he have to the sidelines as he dives out? Secure the catch. That’s a touchdown. Wow. He was looking high. It was Eckles and the ball was underneath that. But good concentration Jack Sawyer and Will Howard last year. This is Chase McGlaughlin now with the extra point. It’s up and good. And he’s going to go deep down the middle of the field and he has his man Roman Wilson. He beats the defense and that’s good for 43 yd. And that’s right in Mason Rudolph’s wheelhouse. He loves the bomb and that one delivers for 43 to Roman Wilson. Big play. This is how you respond. Reading coverage the safety flatfooted. He’s able to now throw the post deep over top. Hindsight, you would like to put the ball out more in front to allow Wilson to go get it, but either way, nice pitching catch. Going to get on the scoreboard. Rudolph survey pressure evades it. Throws down Brandon Johnson. He gets rid of Dean who did not have a good series there. It’s a two-yd score. The Steelers are on the board. Mason Rudolph to Brandon Johnson. Beautiful individual play by Mason Rudolph looking right. Nothing there. Felt pressure. Slides to the left and Johnson is just working with him. He’s playing toy back there using that big body for the touchdown and celebrate big fella. Ben Sauls is on to attempt the extra point. Good job there. time even when they brought Baker Mayfield in the first time. There’s pressure once again and that’s going to be a good sack there by the main Derek Harman number one pick out of Oregon and they want more of that and we saw him last week play about 32 snaps. That’s what he can do on passing down. You see just with the bull rush right up front pushes the lineman right in the quarterback’s lap. Not much Tra could do right there. Play action. Thompson down the middle of the field has a man and that’s Roman Wilson again. He can’t keep his footing but he was all alone. Beautiful route and we saw him last week a couple of plays. Two big plays here so far in this one. Thompson now rolling throwing and getting his receiver. And that’s first down there for Scotty Miller who continues to do good things every time he’s in there. Charlie Scotty Miller gets it done. Green’s finest middle. Yeah, he I mean, look, Aaron’s come in and he’s been everything you could ask for in terms of excited. The the ticket demand is unbelievable. So, I think it’s going to be a big a big event for Ireland and it’ll be great for us to be there short. First and 10, Skyler Thompson so far in this game, two for Caleb Johnson. Caleb miss they got the yard necessary. So, a new set of downs for the Steelers. Thompson feels pressure, runs to his right, trying to avoid it, dumps it off Caleb Johnson. He made something out of nothing and they get eight yards as a result. Really nice play by Skyler Thompson who continues to do nice things at quarterback. This time fake pitch to Johnson. Thompson delivers over the middle right on the money. A sliding reception there. And that’s Scotty Miller once again with the Rams. Thompson delivers up in the air and it’s picked off. It was intended for McCutchen and that’s going to be intercepted by Kindell Vor and he’s still running trying to go across the floor. We do have a flag on the play. So that was in and out of the hands of McCuten the intended receiving receiver and Vor picks it up and goes the other way and it was good in the first quarter. Not so good in this one. That’s good right there. That’s a good play there once again by Harrison. Malik Harrison who’s made a couple of tackles tonight and 10 now facing Skyler Thompson. Looks left. Late blitz comes. He evades it. He now has time. He’s going to tuck it in and get back to the line of scrimmage there. But good job just to get there. Kind of a delayed blitz situation by Tampa. And he got rid of that quickly. Nice coverage. Still Skyler Thompson. He’s rolling to his left and he fires to Galbre. He gets first down. takes a big hit there by Javian Far as he goes head over heels, but that’s a first downp and that’s what you want from the leader. He is unquestionably the leader of this offense. There’s a good run by Caleb Johnson gets an opening, takes advantage and gets close to first down, if not close first down. It’s depends on where they mark it. Looks like it’s very close, but they’re not going to give it to him. Nice job by the offensive line right there, Bob. You could have ran through that hole right there. No, I couldn’t have. 20 years ago, Missy Charlie. 20 years ago. It’s already been 20 years. Unbelievable. Speaking of 20, here goes Caleb Johnson to the outside turning a corner, picking up some good yardage there. You saw a little bit of that burst that the Steelers really like when they saw him in action at Iowa. The other one is left foot. So, the loser of this battle will be on a roster somewhere. Logan Lee may be on a roster just for that ability. You know, the injury to Christian Coons and he made a nice snap and this is going to be fumbled and recovered by the Steelers. A punt right there. A 59 yd kick by Wakeman. Max Hurlman was the guy who came up with it. Johnson was the guy who hit it off his trying to make a return. Didn’t do it. Hurlman on special teams makes a play and the Steelers are in business and brings this crowd to life. Johnson is trying to make a play. When that ball hits the ground, you got to let it go. And here he is trying to pick it up as the ball is coming down. Unfortunately, you see Pastro knocking off the returner. Steelers able to recover. Let’s see if they can capitalize on this big turnover that happened. When you talk about field flipping plays, that is one right there. And that’s a young man trying to make a play. He got a little too aggressive left. Third quarter, Steelers down trying to equalize this game. Caleb Johnson cutting back to the right now. Getting to the outside. He has near first yardage, but he was weaving to get through. Johnson again. This time he gets first down much more to the four. First and goal for Skyler Thompson. Steelers in a hurry up. Johnson again gets the go the middle. Hits a tough yard or two. Surman up the middle. He plows head first close to the goal line and it is going to be short even though the Steelers thought it was in. It’ll be marked very short. Thompson sermon head down and into the end zone. It’s a touchdown for the Spurs Steelers. And that’s a nice drive taking full advantage of the mistake by TZ Johnson recovers it. Steelers go to work and now they’re an extra point away from tying this football game. And that’s what you want to see from that offensive front dominating that offensive line right there. You see him with the push. Surman puts his head down. Easy touchdown. And last week as well extra point is up and it’s good. going to be something that we all pay attention to. Lou Nichols now in the game came in last week and made an impact. And there’s number 35 getting first down and more. He breaks it with the 40. Cutting back inside now with the 50. Beautiful run there by Lou Nicholls before Jam knocks him down. That’s a 38 yd run after what he did last week in Jacksonville. And this is exactly what you want. You got to show a little Central Michigan love. Mid- American Conference right there. This guy able to keep his balance. Breaks through a tackle here. You can see his eyes up the field looking to make bigger plays. And this is beautiful vision by Nicholls right here to hold for a left footed kicker. You don’t see him too often. Not that that was the issue there. Here’s another pass and a good one. The ball comes out after the reception and the Steelers are going to recover. It was Tanner Tala and Quindell Johnson it looked like came away with it and he does recover. It’s a catch and a fumble the Steelers after the Renegade come to life and the fans love it. Beautiful hit to force the ball out after a big play potentially for the Buccaneers. The Steelers able to deliver, but like you mentioned, it was about renegade right there. Good hit. We’ll talk about that play and show it back to you. In fact, you’ll look at it right now as we go to break. Good reception, but the hit right there. Steelers have the ball when we return. I’m sure was chomping at the bit to get Mulligan after he missed one. This is Evan Hall. Hall with a good burst after he was hit. Yenty of him there. It’s 12 yards overall for Evan Hall. And another Steelers first down. Owen right in the back field. He gets the hand off and he’s going nowhere. Steelers defense all over the place right there. Nothing available. The Steelers are going to call timeouts. So they want an opportunity preserves if they can get one here. But the Steelers did a good job up front. You see Leota was another guy there. He’s been all over the place. Bruner joins him. Nowhere to go for right trying to win this game for Tampa. And the kick is up and it is right down Broadway. And that’s how this game will
