Minnesota Vikings 53 Man Roster + Practice Squad Projection: Post 2nd Preseason Game Edition

[Music] So, I I really like cilantro. Like, I I don’t have that gene that makes cilantro taste like soap, but I always worry because, you know, we’re we’re on camera so much. And you can floss, you can brush, you can swish, you can do all you want. There’s always a piece of cilantro like in the back, like a sleeper cell cilantro agent. I think we’re fine. It’s okay. Cilantro is the via Kong of herbs. Actually, no. Ty Bas will be anyways. Uh but sec second preseason game is in the books for the Minnesota Fighting Vikings and there’s been some risers. There’s been some fallers. Uh but as of right now, uh here is our 53man rooster and practice squad because we are not cowards projection for for the Vikings quarterback wise keeping three. So McCarthy, Sam remains. somehow remains where I I feel like how had a decent enough week of practice and also had a decent first preseason game that the second one won’t be held against him. I think he’ll be fine. I I think Brosmer at this point has done enough on tape as well as in practice that teams will be sniffing around him if the Vikings try to get him on through waiverss onto the practice squad. So, he makes it and we called that at the beginning quarterback two of the future. Now, you could say, “Oh, but this is just another preseason hype for a quarterback where what I always think about quarterbacks is, is this replicable?” All right, skill setwise, right? Or there there’s a phenomenon in baseball where a young player will come up first time in the majors, you know, couple of games, just completely smack it around. All right, just do really well. But then pitchers get the dossier on the batter and then it’s not so good second time around, right? And with quarterbacks wise, especially in preseason when you’re you’re not being specifically scouted for like they can get you. All right. And also, you know, a lot of time preseason, whether it’s versus threes with threes versus twos with twos, a lot of times it it just is physical talent, right? And that’s not always replicable in the NFL. where with Brosmer like scanning the field, patience, uh doing well against the rush, buying a little extra time, being accurate, also having a hose for an arm like the fourth and 17 throw to Deshawn Jones with the anticipation look good where he plays within the framework of the Kevin McConnell offense and I feel like he will be a very good backup for a lot of years. Like I I feel like Broer will have the don’t want to say Chase Daniel because screw him. Uh he’ll have the Chad Henny uh sort of career, you know, backup adjacent for a bunch of years. Clipboard Jesus Charlie Whitehurst. Yeah. Yeah. Uh I got ripping on the practice squad. Feel like Ripin did enough in two-minute drill where Yeah. Uh but also could be quarterback TBD. you know, depending on what happens with cutdowns, because remember, if you’re cut from a uh from a team’s 53man roster, that doesn’t mean you automatically have to sign with their practice squad. I mean, you’re a free agent, literally, right? You can sign with any teams practice squad that you want. Uh that’s how the Vikings got Kyro, Ezekiel Slutter back in 2017, uh who was originally with the Broncos coming out of, let’s see, it’s a northern Colorado. And before that, he went to some random directional Arizona school. I want to say like northern Arizona too. Maybe it’s northern northern. Anyways, running back wise Aon Jones, Jordan Mason, Xavier Scott, Scott tots. Pretty straightforward. Uh it could be Tai Chan on the practice squad or running back TBD. Although Trey Story looked kind of good too in the preseason game. Uh then you got CJ Ham. They just wonder at fullback. Wide receivers a little bit of a change. So Jefferson Addison suspended does not count against the 53. Also he automatically goes on suspension. So, it’s not a spot where the Vikings have to play games with this 53 uh man spot. I believe uh Jaylen Naylor also has a jammed up wrist. So, could he be a candidate for, you know, short-term IR once the 53 is set? TBD. Lucky Jackson. That’s a pretty tenuous spot actually. You know what? All right. So, this is what we’re going to do. And I I know I’ve been criticized before because I don’t have like the uh because I have to do the manual colors as opposed to putting in a stupid formula. There we go. Anyways, Deshawn Jones on the 53, Ty Felton, the third round pick out of Maryland, as well as Miles Price, UD FA out of Indiana, uh return jobs secured. It’s good to see uh Tim Jones, Sarah Thomas, Lucky Jackson on the practice squad. I I feel like Lucky Jackson could have definitely secured himself uh a premium spot on the 53, but the drops have just been bad as of late. Uh, and for a long time I I was on the Silus Balden train, but Miles Price literally is taking over that spot one for one. It’s the battle of the short guys. You know, 57 Miles Price versus 5’5 Silus Balden. Good times. Rondell on the IR. And yeah, that’s sort of stinks. Let me try to get this a little bit better framed. Close enough. Tight end wise, uh, keeping three on the squad, one on the Pra, three on the 53, one on the practice squad. Hockets and Oliver Urak, baby carrots on there. Bryson Nesbbit. So, Nesbbit’s been a little bit up and down. I feel like he’s been good uh as a blocker as well as just hustle, you know. And also, I mean, I’m pretty sure he had that fumble setup in the end zone. Not that we’re complain about it. Whatever. Vanet Reachi, the two veterans, not so much. Also, again, Bartholomew, I don’t think that back’s getting any better. I feel like he might end up on season ending IR and we’ll try it again next year. Yeah. Offensive linewise, keeping nine. Darasaw Jackson. Woo. Ryan Kelly, Will Fry, Brian O’Neal, your starters. School as a swing backup tackle. Although, you know, they’re try uh so school didn’t play in the last preseason game. It’s pretty clear sign that he’s going to make the 53. But trying out Henry Bird at left tackle. It’s sort of interesting. Walter Rouse in that mix too. Brand uh the veteran as well as Michael Jurgens who’ve been playing some good center as of late are on the 53 practice squad. Bird, Huber, Logan Brown. Now, maybe a little bit concerned that Huber might get picked up off of waiverss. It is what it is. Uh Logan Brown had had a good first preseason game. Uh not so much. Number two. Yeah. Uh then also cut on IR Matt Nelson, Z Coral. And then Michael Gonzo who just got here, Vashan Lee and Leroy Watson cut. Defensively, couple changes here as well. Uh so defensive line keeping seven. Allan Phillips Hargrave T Elijah Williams a UDFA try out of Morgan say for some reason I kept saying Mercer and that was last year we had a bunch of the Mercer guys as UDFAS Jaylen Redmond Jay Red he’s a dog as well as Taki Tammani on the nose so we got LDR on the practice squad and I feel like it’s doable this time around uh because there hasn’t been a ton of hype or fanfare about LDR also got dinged up as of late didn’t play in the second preseason game I think he could be a candidate for short-term IR uh So, he’d have to be in the 53 first and then, you know, bring him on to IR. Uh, then you got Jonathan Harris on the practice squad as well. He’s had a couple good uh preseason games. Uh, then on the edge, living on the edge, AVG, Grard Turner, Richtor, Murphy, Batty, and Chad Shambbleia on the practice squad. Cam Gil, uh, no go. Uh, remember, so there’s 53 roster spots. There’s 16 practice squad. Uh, 17 if you count International Pathway players. I mean, you got 70 players on the 90man that are going to be on this team in some s form or fashion. That’s a lot. It’s a lot of jobs, man. Off linebacker. Uh, Pace Cashman outside. How about that? Eric Wilson. Kobe King. Not Kobe Jones. Kobe King. Uh, and then Austin Key is the pride of Auburn. A decent preseason game. I know he didn’t grade out the greatest. Uh, but frankly, he did pretty well, especially on special teams. Uh, Dory Mousie as well as Max Tulie for the second time. No go. quarterback wise, Rogers as well as Jeff Akuda Okuda also didn’t play in the preseason game. So they see him making the 53 as starter. Love that story. Murf in the slot. And then sec and second squad. Nudie Zamaya Vaughn the UDFA out of Utah as well as Mai Blackman. So keeping six on six corners on the 53. Tavier Thomas isn’t really corner isn’t really safety more of a special teams guy but you know nebulous spot taking up a practice squad uh slot. And then also safety wise, Harrison Smith, Theo Jackson, uh Josh Matelis, Kerat, my Gword son, who had a nice second preseason game. And then Khalif Hassie, uh, two picks against the Texans in preseason game number one. Uh, he gets it done there. Special teams. All right. All right. I feel like Chapman does have a chance, but also you you could easily just keep Cashman uh, excuse me, CA Chapman on the practice squad, not not counting against your rooster. Ryan Wright is fine. Also a decent holder. Although Chapman was holding for a couple of those kicks for record, so I don’t know. And then return, man. Uh we got Ty Felton, we got Miles Price, even though Felton fumbled on one kick return. Yeah. And they got Miles Price as your partner turn in place of Rond Del Moore. But that’s it. That’s it. Uh Vikings 53man roster and practice squad projection because we are not cowards. Also, no cilantro. Yeah. Anyways, uh you guys are the best. You know what to do. Happy Sunday. Skull production value.

  1. haha! I had just asked for this in another comments section.*😁 *IMHO, that's a good list!
I think that Zavier Scott & Ty Chandler are neck & neck in that race, and it may come down to the 3rd pre-season game. I don't see how both can be kept on the 53 without taking some other important chess piece elsewhere off the 53.
Unfortunately, whoever ends up on the Practice Squad is likely to be poached by another team, and the same applies to guys listed on the Practice Squad like LDR, Kahlef Hailasse, Joe Huber, Tim Jones, Thayer Thomas, Tavierre Thomas. Of those, I would hate to see LDR & either Scott/Chandler ending up on another team.
Last, given the quality of the guys who likely won't make the 53, I also wonder if Kwesi A-M will receive some calls from other GMs who may want to make a trade, especially GMs who won't get first dibs on guys put on waivers….

  2. I still feel like leaving LDR in the practice squad feels weird, but we’ll see. There is so much depth that we won’t be able to keep all the good players and we sure as hell can’t have 8 DTs

  3. I remember watching college highlights of Gavin Bartholomew. Two impressions I got: 1. Man, that guy is tough. 2. Man, that guy takes some monster hits. There is no shame in avoiding monster hits, even if you're a big, muscly dude. For all his talent, I did not see evidence that GBart does enough to protect himself out there. It may not matter when you're the biggest kid in high school ball, but when you reach the pros, every other guy can break your bones, and some of them appear to enjoy it. If Yurosek plays with a bit more sanity, he may have a decent career as a Tight End. Roll with the punches, young man.
