Minnesota Vikings News Dump (8.17.2025) | THE PRICE IS RIGHT, Jefferson Update, QB2 Race

[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Happy Sunday. It’s beautiful. Birds are chirping and stuff. And it’s time for another Vikings news dump. So, of course, yesterday the game that was Vikings, Patriots, Patriots win 20 to 12 where it’s really funny. So, Vel playing his starters on offense and defense, you know, the bulk of them, right? And everyone’s kissing Vable’s ass just like, “Hey, you know, he’s building a winning culture there in New England.” Like they haven’t won recently. Decade. Decade. Decade. Uh but also, hey, where was this winning culture during joint practices? What happened? What happened Thursday? What happened? Where obviously you never root for injury? It’s terrible, right? But I was just waiting because like Murphy’s law always takes over where it’s just like I I really hope that a New England star does not get hurt in just a preseason game of Raels and there’s like oh you had a bad practice you’re going to play. I don’t know. I don’t know man. But either way uh so you know we talked about the game and basically it was sort of whatever. All right. No sacks for the Vikings defense. Fist full of pressures though. Second team offensive line. Uh Sam H how quarter Korea’s quarterback. Uh there are some highs, there are some lows. Miles Price was that Miles Price is definitely a high because his 81 yard kick return a good return and punts as well. You could get both return jobs would save a rooster spot. But then also he had his mitts on the brosmer game-winning touchdown throw and just like ah yeah but Price like we said uh he said this after the game uh price on uh Vikage Miles Price on playing punt return that’s my favorite position in the world as long as it gets in my hands I feel like I got an opportunity every time and what’s interesting we’ve talked about this before and it’s always like hey if you can return kicks how come you don’t return punts. If you could return punts, how come you don’t return kicks? They’re two completely different skill sets, right? And there there’s something to be said about following the rotation of the ball, tracking it, fielding it cleanly, and it’s a lot different spin in English uh coming uh from a ball that’s kicked off a te versus a punt that, as we’ve seen, banana ball, uh can certainly be manipulated, uh spin, everything like that. Plus, you punt, I mean, well, the the the new kick return, like literally, you’re never going to get touched, right? But punt punt returns, if you don’t call a fair catch or hey, Cooper Deene, legal fair catch, uh, you get popped. All right, so the fact that Miles Price has the skill set and the wherewithal to do both, it’s pretty damn amazing. It’s pretty damn fantastic. So room for Miles Price also or guy Kyrie. I I hope if Price makes the 53 that he keeps 31. Getting it done. Why not? Cuz that that’d be great. Wouldn’t it that that would just be full circle, you know. Uh you know, last year Kyrie’s number retired. This year Miles Price wears it and has a punt or kick return in the Super Bowl. Oh, come on. Come on, man. That’d be fantastic. Also, a funny part of the game was of course Kevin Khan dropping fbomb when he was miked up interviewing in the third quarter with you know PA and Bersich and stuff which is good because I feel like so Kevin McConnell has this clean cut image doesn’t really cost much. I I I even think like when he’s miked up on the sidelines for like NFL films and stuff like he understands he’s miked up and kind of tamps it down just a little little false start little f me. It’s good stuff. Also you know story of the day was a Max Bros, right? And and Bros was really impressive. Did not get any help what whatsoever. I mean receivers you know four or five drops official numbers come out. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was like 67, right? Uh pressures wise, sacked four times, pressured about uh 8, nine, 10 times. It was just the fact that he took a licking and kept on ticking. It’s pretty good. Also, uh this is good, too. Fourth and 17, Deshawn Jones, Alkalus Athletic. This throw was pretty nuts. Look where Deshawn Jones is where Max Bros is releasing it with a defender in his face. And the throw is arched over the the zone Patriots defender. Th this is an NFL throw. This is a big- time throw. And there’s so many quarterbacks that come out of college, especially, you know, like Bromer was at New Hampshire for for 17,000 years, one year with the Gophers. It they’re always they’re more throwers than passers. It’s see it, throw it, see it, throw it. And you you’ve seen it a bunch with McCarthy. You see it now bro like throwing with anticipation. And you know, Kevin McConnell, he he just beats it into the their brains like, “Hey, Jesus, take the wheel.” Was Justin Jefferson, take the wheat. Same thing, right? But, you know, with bros, this is a big time throw. And you know, I I understand like at a certain point it sounds hyperbolic as well as you know, we we’re firmly in love with the backup quarterbacks always always with the squad, but Vikings have a little something something here with Brosmer. And I I want hell I want him to play the entire preseason game against Tennessee on Friday. Why not? Let’s just do it, right? because there there’s so much to like about his game. How quickly he picked up the offense. How even when he even when he was under duress yesterday, like he didn’t seem skittish, wasn’t dear in headlights, wasn’t seeing ghosts, he was just like, “Ah, whatever.” Gets the ball out quick, you know, processes quickly, gets through his progressions, arm is accurate, as well as he’s got more arm than he gets credit for, certainly. and also just the demeanor and you hear him in interviews like he’s very mature has a lot of starting experience yes you know from New Hampshire FCS uh but you know with the Gophers last year like he was operating and you almost wish that hey what how come we got one year bros we’re in 17 years of Tanner Morgan huh or 17,000 years of Mitch Lidner four whatever but I truly think that something’s there now part of it is our guy slinging Sam How aka quarter of Korea’s quarterback. Now I I know that Howell’s mom is going to be in our comments. Whatever. But Vik page Sam Sam How’s day seems to be done. Brett Rip and ass chickening in. Ripen was was sort of slow to start, but then two-minute drill. All right. How ended with one of five passing. The one completion was a low dump off to Nick Bennett. Uh 13 passing yards, one interception, and zero pass rate. The interception was quite possibly the worst throw that I’ve seen a Vikas Horback throw. And we live through we live through Josh Freeman. We live through when Passion was bad. We lived through um gosh, what was Kurt Cousins? Sure. Spurgeon win. Yeah. Todd Bowman uh St. Cloud State. He he actually he was all right. All right. Was Rush Rushton Tyler Ruthon? It’s probably correct. Go check it out. Uh, again, my brain is very stupid. Like, ask me Ezra’s middle name. Ask me my my third kid’s middle name. It’s pro probably Yao or something. I don’t know. Uh, but yeah, Howal was not good. Like, honestly, so at a certain point, like pressure is just pressure, right? And I I I understand that Howal was was going against the Patriots first teamers for, you know, the bulk of his time is out there, but pressure is pressure at a certain point. How do you react to how do you react to pass rushers in your face? How and we’ve seen this at joint practice. We’ve seen this on Saturday. We saw this all through training camp going against Flores. Halen gets a little skittish and it it hearkens back to another quarterback that wore number eight in Vikings purple. Don’t know. And now you’re starting to see why how threw so many interceptions for the commies. And you see how Ripen reacts to pressure. A little bit skittish. You know, mechanics go out the window. But with Brosmer, again, at a certain point, it seems like we’re just blowing smoke up the kid’s ass. I do not care. Right. But when Brosman was facing pressure, like calm, dialed in, get the ball out quick, uh, you know, quicken up that that clock in in your head, slightly move from the pocket, buy more time. I I feel like if you take the name plates off the jersey and you know the resume from the player and just tell me who looks better. I mean it’s Brosmer all the way right. Uh now will will the Vikings give the job to an undrafted free agent quarterback? I don’t know. I don’t know. But what’s the point? You’re just going to give him the job next year. So who cares, right? Plus, how as well as ripening ass are on league minimum deals and they’re not under contract through uh after this year. So, I don’t know. But Kevin Seafford, ESPN who’s not Carl Gerber. Uh Vikings head coach Kevin McConnell on the number two quarterback job. There’s a reason why we’re playing all three of them. As far as what that means in overall competition, I think I would just say that it’s still open and we’re trying to figure out what that room is going to look like for the season. So, I I think that they hang on to at least two of them. Maybe they bring in a fourth quarterback for the practice squad because Bro, first off, Broener was making the 53. I I I don’t think there’s any way that you get him through waiverss onto the practice squad at this point. So, if I was to cut one, it’d be ripping cuz I just feel like his ceiling is not there. Howal does have a ceiling. He just needs to calm down. Now, you know, god forbid knock on wood. If anything happened to JJ, who would you put in? How or don’t know. Don’t know at this point. Uh so, and also there’s a couple ways to read uh Kevin McConnell’s comments. So, like, okay, he has a named a quarterback too. That means open. May Bromer has a chance. Also, on the other hand, he doesn’t really have to name a quarterback, too. And also he technically hasn’t named JJ McCarthy quarterback one either, right? And he never named Howal officially quarterback 2, but everything about him is quarterback 2. You know, second team reps through most of training camp did get benched once. Uh then obviously the first one taking snaps after JJ McCarthy if applicable in preseason. So I don’t know. I don’t know. Uh also great update here about Justin Friaking Jefferson and his mild hamstring strain. Kevin Sebert again. Kevin McConnell when asked if Justin Jefferson hamstring will return to practice this week. He’s definitely going to hopefully start doing more and more. Non-answer answer. Kevin McConnell’s starting to learn how to play the game. I can’t say what that’s going to look like from a practice standpoint yet. Uh said there have been no setbacks, which is good to see. And as we we point out, Jefferson’s out here running, jumping, having fun. Doesn’t have a sleeve on that left hamstring. So yeah, also Jefferson last practiced 23 days ago. Anyone who has been to camp has seen him bouncing around. I just said that bouncing around the practice field. Team Jefferson have prioritize health for week one over whatever benefits exist for working with the rest of the offense. So I I feel like that’s been the major concern for us and for a lot of Vikings fans like well I mean JJ is building up JJ as a McCarthy. He’s building up this great chemistry with Addison, building up great chemistry with Hawinson. He’s not gonna have that with Jefferson. Ah, who cares? They’ll figure it out. It’s just a freaking Jefferson. That’s all. All right. Also, injuries in the wide receiver department. Alky at Kevin Connell was asked by Jud about Jaylen Naylor. Kevin Connell said he’s still in Eval phase for that jammed hand, but Kevin McConnell said the hope is that it’s not a long-term injury. and Vikings depthwise. So, Jefferson pretty confident he’ll be right for week one and whatever happens happens. Addison three-game suspension. Naylor jammed hand. Lucky Jackson, maybe he has two jammed hands because he’s dropping balls all over the place as of late. Whether it’s in games, he he had like two or three drops in the game. Uh and also, uh during joint practice, he had several drops and it’s kind of Yeah. Uh Rond Del Moore, Deshawn Jones, uh Thera Thomas has put put on some good tape as of late. Shawn Jones, you know, was the star of the drive with uh Brosmer. Also Tim Tim Jones, who Tim Jones uh has been out here doing some good work with Brosmer as well. Uh then you got uh Flemings had some moments. Miles Price is definitely going to make it. Silus Balden, eh, he was our guy, but I think Miles Price has certainly overtaken him. The pride of Indiana. Go Hoosiers. That’s right. Also, what’s kind of funny, too, while Ty Felton had a couple catches, but you know, bring him along slowly. Sure, what happen what whatever happens happens. Also, this is kind of funny. Uh Ty or Brandon Powell, a former Vikings wide receiver, uh former Rams, also has some experience with Kevin Okonnell as well as Wes Phillips. Uh it was in attendance at the game. They posted on Instagram, “Here for my kids, Deshawn Jones as well as Theater Thomas, two former teammates. Brandon Powell, I love it, man.” And you know, if you’re gonna bring back a player that knows the offense, I mean, Powell wouldn’t be bad. KJ Osborne, if he doesn’t make the commies, wouldn’t be mad. Tristan Jackson would have been great, except he got hurt, got placed on injured reserve by the Cardinals. So, who knows? Yeah. Also, two players that should make the 53. Oh. Oh. So, Elijah Williams needs to make the 53. You know, the pride of Mercer uh 90man uh edition after rookie mini camp UDFA tryyout. Just he’s so sleek. He gets in the back field, stops the run, able to get pressure, and he’s just out there working every single down, every single way. And I I think that he does have a a shot to make the 53 because Levi Drake Rodriguez suddenly with that injury I I feel like he could be a candidate for short-term IR and maybe Elijah Williams takes that spot. Certainly possible because Allan Hardra Phillips Redmond T are locks. Li Taki possibly maybe get him on the practice squad to start. LDR maybe short-term IR to start. I I think Elijah Williams has definitely shown enough that he needs to be considered for the 53. Also in consideration also one of the reasons why the Vikings part of ASMA is that Austin Keys been rising up. He’s been doing good. He’s been run with the twos quite a bit in in practice as well. Uh he and Kobe King got the got the start uh against the Patriots in the game. Uh seven tackles, three solo, also recovered the Tyfeldon fumble on the kick return. And you know, the pride of Auburn’s been sort of been Johnny on the spot. 56 getting things done. He’s he’s he’s definitely interesting where I I feel like he he has has a shot at minimum practice squad and maybe rising up from there. Who knows, man. Anyways, that’s it. That’s it. Uh, Vikings news dump for this beautiful, glorious Sunday. You guys are the best yo to do. Skull production value.

  1. Three pre-caffeine morning thoughts..
    1. IMHO, Brosmer needs to start the final preseason game. Seeing him against the best players that Tennessee will field should be an upgrade in competition & a good litmus test.🤔🤔
    2. I have a hunch that one of the reasons that the Vikes moved on from Nick Mullens & the Passtronaut was that they had too many turnovers. Clearly KOC wants a backup who isn't going to put the Vikes further behind the 8-ball if they need to come in to the game. That would suggest that Brosmer is going to get serious consideration as the Vikes #2, or at least, #3.🤔
    3. Last, but not least. Did anyone else notice Bradbury getting totally bulldozed during one on the Patriot's first-quarter offensive plays? He looked a bit sore when he went back to the huddle. File this under "Deja vu, all over again." [Yogi Berra] !😁

  2. Not sure why Special Teams Coach Daniels isn’t feeling some heat. I know he is good behind the mic but our return stats suck( last year) and can he coach up Jones to avoid penalties ?

  3. The ability to keep calm when your OL line breaks down. Maybe even take a sack and still drop dimes the next play or 3. That's Brosmer!! He has a future in this league! Hopefully with us long term. Alot of room for growth! Eye opening! SKOL Brosmer!!

  4. I grew up watching Christian Ponder being nothing to the Vikings whatsoever and if his wife wasn’t a 100/10 and eye candy for every player and coach in Minnesota he would not have been there half as long as he was

  5. If Howell and Brosmer are JJ's backups, you keep them both on a very short leash, and be ready to make an offer for somebody else.
Also, lookout for Myles Price. That guy might just fight his way into the lineup. He's got spunk!
Agreed on E Williams. Guy looks like a football player!
