Stupidest Call of the Decade
There are a lot of stupid calls in the NHL, but the one I want to talk about, this one might be one of the stupidest calls I’ve watched all season. You know what? Scratch that. This is one of the stupidest calls of the last decade. Let’s talk about it. [Music] The worst picture of all time. Let’s face it, it’s been pretty quiet for hockey fans. Team USA won the Gretzky Cup earlier today and I’ve been seeing lots of interesting opinions about that tournament. But in terms of the NHL, there’s not a lot to talk about and you’re seeing it a lot with social media and creators just putting out compilation videos, highlight clips. You’re even seeing the NHL post projections and articles about certain teams. So, I looked into the grab bag and thought of some things that I could do for videos and stumbled upon this clip that I’ve already, you know, reacted to and put up on the channel, but I thought I would revisit it and focus in a little bit more on it. Before we get into it, thank you so much for all the support. It’s obvious you’re still looking for hockey content, and I hope that I’m the place that gives it to you. If you’re not already subscribed to this channel, please consider it. I’d love to have you as part of the community. We’ve hit 15,000 subscribers. Can we hit 20,000 subscribers? I’ll let you know that 15,000 subscribers was the benchmark that I really was looking to hit this summer. And before the season starts, I have a surprise for you guys, so stay tuned. So, let me try to set the stage for you. It’s October 27th. Montreal Canadians are facing off against the Philadelphia Flyers in Philadelphia. Captain Shan Couturier has come under some fire by his coaching staff, by the fans. They’re wondering where his grit is on the opposite side of the sheet. It’s the ninth game of the season for the Montreal Canadiens. Herby Doc is trying to create some sort of a reputation for himself, but we all know he’s been plagued by injuries. At the same time, defenseman Arbory is trying to kind of shed part of his reputation. He’s known first and foremost as an enforcer, and that’s not such a bad thing, but Maltan St. Louie has bigger plans for the young defenseman. He wants Arbor Jackie to reinvent himself and become a business-like strong stay-at-home defenseman. But when Jackey sees his friend and centerman Kirby Doc take one up high from Couturier, he’s uh he’s he’s not the type to let that stand. So he lines Couturier up near the corner in the defensive zone. And this proceeds to happen. Can’t fight Jack guy. That can’t happen. Cer jumps in quickly and so that one does not. Now you think that Nick Cer jumping in there that’s an automatic penalty for Caler. But what are the other penalties? Maybe you’re thinking Jackey and Couture go off although the party never really started and maybe instead of 5 minutes they get offsetting two-minute penalties. Aha. You would be wrong. Harbor Jackie is awarded a unsportsmanlike misconduct and that’s it. Cal is not going to let Couturier fight jack eye. Jack eyee only for unsportsman like conduct. Okay. And Jackie just wanted you to talk to people on the ice. What you might be asking how could that be? Well, what’s the reasoning? I don’t know, man. I don’t know. As far as I know, they didn’t ever address this. I see a lot of you in the comments saying that the officials should have to do press debriefs after the game. I don’t think any good would come of that, honestly, but this is like a situation where I really wish they did. It’s just it’s too funny. And then when you break down the video, Nick Suzuki gets in there and he’s probably thinking like, “Hey, this is not okay. This is not all right.” And there was I some confusion between the officials for sure. What surprises me the most out of this is that Jacka just hits the penalty box and his temperature seems completely normal. You would think that he’d be pretty hot after that one, but maybe he didn’t realize what was happening. I remember being very frustrated at the time that it happened because it was it was near the start of the game and I think they were tied at nothing, right? But then the Canadians scored one, Flyers scored one. Second period, Canadians scored three times in a row. Flyers tried to come back and it ended up 4-3 in the end. The Flyers couldn’t mount the comeback. So, that took the sting off of it obviously. Still a really weird moment and a memorable moment for me at least. I don’t know if you guys remember it. Let me know if you remember it down in the comments. And let me know what other weird things happened last season. And try to be a little bit creative. Don’t tell me about all the absolutely abysmal goalender interference calls uh that were made. Some of the fallout from this was that Canadians fans, you know, they this just added fuel to the fire about the theory Arbory was a wanted man and that the officials held him on a very short leash, which bugs me because I think there is some credence to that. From what I understand, the league will hand down memos to officials and say, “Hey, we’ve noticed this player does this. We’ve noticed this player does this. We noticed this player embellishes. We noticed this player so on and so forth.” Apparently, they did it with Jeff Skinner with embellishing. And I believe they’ve talked about Elvis MS Lincoln being a goalender that incites goalender interference. Like he’ll come out of his crease, initiate interference. So, when there’s pressure in the zone, you might be able to argue a goalie interference call. I think it was Ms. Lincoln. I think it was Mers Lincoln. I’m going to call it right there. I know this is a really short video, but I knew I had to get a video out because I am going on vacation. I’m going to be gone for a few days, so don’t miss me too much. I’m definitely going to miss you guys. I’m completely serious. I love updating the channel and checking to see what the heck is going on with my camera. It’s trying to find focus. This This takes a minute. There we go. Yeah, like I was trying to say, I Yeah, I love checking the status of the channel, what went on, what kind of comments I got. It’s been slow lately and that’s that bugs me, but I’m keeping myself busy. That’s not really a choice when you have two kids and my daughter who is turning 1 years old tomorrow, so there’s a lot to do with that stuff. I’ve also been playing uh the Battlefield 6 beta, which I have opinions on, but I’m not going to air them out here. did have a lot of fun playing with my buddy last night. There is no a fellow content creator. It’s always uh more fun playing those games with friends, right? But that’s going to do it for me guys. Thank you so much for all your support watching the video, hitting the like button, subscribing, whatever it is. So say it with me. Like the video, it helps me with something. I don’t know, something with YouTube. Subscribe if you’re not already subscribed. I’d love to have you. And as always, I will see you down in the comments.
In a heated matchup between the Canadiens and Flyers, Arber Xhekaj squared up with Sean Couturier, both dropping their gloves. But before a fight could even start, Flyers defenseman Nick Seeler jumped in as a third man. Despite being the one interfered with, Xhekaj somehow received the only penalty and it being an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty — one of the most baffling calls in recent NHL history.

Whiskey it’s almost Midnight!!! What are you doing up around this time 😂
I'm going to be away for a few days guys and girls. I hope you'll survive. I've got a lot left in the tank but there isn't a bunch of EASY to do videos about news and timely stuff right? I want to do a video about Patrick Roy so keep an eye out for that one.
Thanks for all of your support, love y'all.

Lowkey didn’t know what to expect clicking on this video😂😂😂
Already knew it was the Philly game before I clicked
Thanks for reminding me about this. I decided to watch this video in bed and now I'm too angry to sleep
Have a great vacation!
Most Habs fans have Arber on a pedestal. He's a 7/8 D at best. Guys like Enstrom and Struble and obvs Reinbacher have way higher ceilings. He's a novelty on a deep team who isn't getting any minutes this season. He's heading to Europe.
I'm enjoying old black and white you tube games in this period. I have been amazed watching '50's clips stunned by Gordie Howe stickhandling ragging the puck in the neutral zone — the skill of the OG's is underrated. That's part of my time killing in summer.
This call on Xekaj wasn't just stupid it was completely unethical. Happy birthday daughter!!!
Have a good rest my friend.
Enjoy your time off, dude.
Just be glad you're not a staff writer with the league's website in August, having to come up with 500 words on "Three keys for the Buffalo Sabres in 2025-26" or something like that. : )
I remember that Xhekaj call and found this entertaining. Cheers.
I remember that call, and was as baffled then as I am today. Good to know Xhekaj is such a badass that if he tries to fight anyone, it's just not fair and deserves an unsportsmanlike!
All kidding aside, being the MOST generous I can be, maybe the penalty was the result of some choice words by Arber, and nothing for fighting because, as you said, the party never really got started? My money is still on refs dropping the ball big time on that occasion, don't get me wrong…
I understand refs get some missed calls and they also make mistakes but this call is where their credibility is questioned.
I don't care about the story, or whatever had been said on the ice. Third Man In should always be respected. You don't even take a chance on that stuff. Like, imagine Xhekaj had been running his mouth about allowing 2v1. Even if he did, you don't just let a third man in with zero consequence. That's just dumb and sets a dumb precedent.
3 crosschecks to the face, no penalties. Caps player stick their own goalie on the dome, we get a penalty.
Marty should get his head out of his ass and realize that Arber has an absolute rocket of a shot, and he gets it through. Maybe put him on the power play with Marty's little pet Hutson
This is essentialy the asprin keeping me off the harder stuff until october. Thank you.
i honestly wanna see a “forgotten” impact players that played for the habs.
Enjoy your vacation time WL, the new season is inching closer.
you can concider youself lucky your the only videos i like!
Nothing to say about the call because I didn't see the game. It was "unavailable due to a regional blackout" in North Bay Ontario. Because apparently Sportsnet and/or the NHL somehow figured that although I was paying for Sportsnet+, I could/should be driving to Philly and buying a ticket to see the game live. Absolute nonsense!
Your clip doesn't start early enough. AX kept pushing Couturier to fight when he clearly did not want to, and eventually he's like, fine, I guess I have to defend myself since the refs aren't stepping in. No punches thrown, no sticks slashing, etc. Just two guys grabbing each other and a third guy that comes in and everyone loses their balance and fall down. I was confused at first too, but upon watching the replay, I thought it wasn't a bad call. Third man penalties are always following a fight with a guy that wasn't involved in the original hit/battle/scrum. Taking your gloves off is not a penalty, so that part doesn't matter at the end of the day.
I argued with my Habs fan buddy, he felt like you, worse call ever. To call it stupidest call of the decade is a heater of a take with what we've witnessed in the last few years. Again, no punches were thrown, and AX kept pushing for a fight that never materialized. He acted badly and was penalized for it.
Have a great time off. A bit of time to recharge is always useful. With a young family, you time is at a premium.
I remember the incident. I just put it down to the high level of incompetence in NHL officiating. I hadn't thought of the idea that Xhekaj is on a "short leash". This may be the reason MSL appears to not want to play him, too likely a physical play will be called a penalty.
You're so down-to-earth, kept the video rolling while your camera tried to focus. As always, insightful and well thought out take. Enjoy your vacation! We'll see you when you get back.
This was definitely one of the worst calls, I remember watching the game live and it really grinding my gears
Thought for sure this was about St.Louis not playing Arber in the playoffs
1 year already?! Happy birthday to mini Whiskey!
Have a great vacation.
I can remember when the "third man in" penalty was called every single time a player interfered with a fight in progress…..every time. Now, apparently, that rule is no longer relevant, because I swear I haven't seen it called in over twenty years.
I think that the stupidest call was that the Panthers took less penalties in the playoffs than their opponents. If the league hands down memos, how have zero memos been made about the multiple goalies that Bennett has concussed?
Deffinately one of the worst calls ever made. Absolutely embarrassing for most but for NHL referees dont have accountability so they dont feel shame so im sure there just happy they got there attention. It's such a joke like when the linesman fakes drops the puck and then kicks someone out. If your good at your job refs and linesman I shouldn't know your there. Stop looking for camera time you clowns.
Stupidest call of all time by far.
Happy holiday. I like your videos Merci
I knew exactly what this was going to be as soon as I saw the title. Sandlak is a POS. He is one of the worst regarded refs in the league. It took almost no time for him to make his way through the ranks of the player ratings every year.
He's crooked, crooked as they come. Just ask. Erik Johnson. You can Google what he has to say about Carter. Sandlak.
I do remember a game against Philly years back where gally got crossed checked in the face and no call. The ref was right there and then seemed to chirp gally. The constant bad calls against the habs has been happening for years.
One thing that has been getting worse as time goes on is the goalie interference calls, especially when reviewing goals! How many times have we seen this? A goal that should have counted not counting, and one that shouldn't count, counting! There has been no consistency in the calls, be it by ref or league. And most were not even close calls…. they were blatantly goal or no goal but called opposite.
They never let mtl play dont look any further this is because we arent a usa team just look the playoff game 1-2 not so great game 3 finally Xekhaj in the line up and it was a huge difference game 4-5 ref kill Arber always ref around him he cant terrorized the bench they maje him take a detour game 4-5 for me was pure bs even in game 1 cross check in Caufield face no call ref seen it and prefer to not call !! Harder for a canadian team to win league is totally rigged
