Cowboys Winners & Losers vs. Ravens Ft. Joe Milton, Andrew Booth, Damone Clark & James Houston

[Music] Week two of the NFL preseason is over for the Dallas Cowboys. We’re going to break down some winners and losers. I’ll be honest, I had a tougher time finding the winners than I did the losers side. That was a bad performance from the Cowboys. They lose 31-13. We did our instant reaction video last night. We were live for the entire Cowboys game as well. hour 15 before kickoff. If you have enjoyed our Cowboys preseason coverage, even if the game itself hasn’t maybe been that entertaining for you, show it by liking today’s video, please. And thank you. Let’s dive into the winners. And we’re going to start with the linebackers. I liked what I saw when they were kept clean. We’ll discuss that part later on in today’s show. I thought the linebackers played pretty well. No Kenneth Murray in this one, but almost everyone else who played I thought was pretty good. Dimone Clark looked pretty good, too. He looked impactful. He looked like he had good instincts, which hasn’t always been a thing for Dimone Clark. I liked what I saw from him. Seven tackles, two TFLs in this one. I thought looked like kind of how like Maurice Leel like the best linebacker, best player really on defense in week one. Kind of thought maybe Demone Clark was was the best player tonight outside of one corner who made a nice interception. We’ll discuss later on. Thought Shamar James played pretty well. Seven tackles. It was, by the way, uh 33 snaps for Clark, 56 for Shamar James. He played a lot in this one. Um got beat one time in coverage, but like overall was was fine. Darius Harris was up and down. Uh there were some good he had a couple tackles, nice quarterback hit, good TFL, also didn’t have the best stuff in coverage, and most had a bad penalty uh going with the crown of the helmet. Can’t have that. Jack Sanborn did play after Kenneth Murray was supposed to play but actually didn’t. You know, the even the starters got like, you know, uh half dozen or a dozen and a half change of snaps. Like it was like 16 or something. Sam I thought played pretty well. I thought overall the linebackers showcased some some pretty good stuff in this particular matchup. I will give credit where it is due. Andrew Booth I thought played really well. Obviously the big highlight reel play the pick six. That’s awesome. That’s the stuff you want to have out of your corners. Targeted seven times in coverage. Had to play a lot because of injury. Uh other corners got hurt in this game, so Booth had to go back in the game. The pick six was electric high and tight though. Put that ball away for me. Had a pass break up too. Seven of four in the early PFF coverage stats, but only 31 yards. You know, one yard after catch. I like him better when he’s not playing eight yards off the ball. Put him closer to the receivers. She’s typically better from what I saw tonight, but I thought given the sheer uncertainty at corner was a good showing from Andrew Booth. Kean Hall also I thought played pretty well. Uh was targeted seven times again in coverage, 51 yards. Did have some yak that was allowed. That is an issue. Has to get that dialed in, but continues to be a good tackler. I think if you’re kind of trying to figure out who makes this Cowboys team, who doesn’t, Khal’s got a chance. Shout out to Zion Childris by the way as well. I thought he also played relatively well. Again, it’s backups. Those guys should be doing well. I still have big picture concerns about this secondary. How do they fare until Trayvon Diggs is healthy? Till Savone Rebel’s healthy, but they at least play, I thought, relatively well. Two interceptions always valuable. Kaman Hall, of course, had one of those interceptions. 6.3 yards per attempt is actually less than the Cowboys had. Cowboys averaged 6.7. We’ll talk about the QBs tonight and or from Saturday night, I should say. The secondary I thought was fine for the Cowboys. So, how are you feeling confidence-wise? One to 10 is your scale. I don’t know how he makes this team. I think it’s going to be a tough path, but I thought James Houston played pretty damn well tonight. Two tackles, couple quarterback hits, couple pressures as well. Um, he played 43 snaps per PFF and he got pressures. Thought Tyrus Wheat had a pretty low-key decent night as the C the Cowboys got pressures tonight. There there weren’t really there weren’t sacks, but you know, James Houston had two in which he hit the quarterback and led to an incomplete throw. It’s not a sack, but like, you know, it kind of counts in the end. A tough path to make the 53, but he’s impactful as a pass rusher. Not so much as a run stopper. I will say I think it’s it’s pretty hard to evaluate the wide receivers um when the quarterback plays bad like it has been for the Cowboys so far. I thought Ryan Fenoy played pretty well. Two catches, 27 yards for Fenoy uh didn’t have the drops that other players had. Overall, I thought Fenoy playing ahead of guys like Tayon Holden who didn’t make an impact but didn’t get very many looks his way anyway. I think he’s still fighting for that wide receiver six job. It’s going to be tough. But I also saw Fenoy on special teams in the second half. That matters because that extra spot at receiver might come down to special teams. Who is the biggest Cowboys preseason winner? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Let me know who the Cowboys biggest preseason winner was in this particular matchup. We’ll keep it positive here in the comments of today’s show. In a way, maybe those who didn’t play, didn’t mean to rhyme, are some of the bigger winners. Javvante Williams did not play at all tonight. He is clearly RB1. You know, Miles Sanders wasn’t great. Seven carries, 15 yards, long as seven. The run blocking could have been a little bit better at times, too, but he didn’t really do a lot after contact. Solomon Thomas did not play. Kenneth Murray did not play. Both Donovan Wiler, Donovan Wilson, and Lee Cooker did not play. if you had any doubts that like if if you actually thought that Joe M was going to come for Dak Prescott’s job this year, you were always insane. But like clearly these guys who didn’t play who like are going to be key contributors, their roles are obvious. The Cowboys need them. That’s how they’re viewing them because they didn’t even bother playing them in this second preseason game. This Cowboys hoodie is on sale. chatsports.com hoodie link will be in the comments section and the description of today’s show. That’s chatsports.comd hoodie was 55 bucks. Now it is just 33. Let’s go to the offensive line. I thought for the most part, not perfect, but for the most part they fared pretty well. Uh they didn’t allow that many pressures. I kind of thought Nick Brock Hoffman didn’t have a great game tonight. I thought he got beat a couple times. Um Awesome Richards didn’t have that great of a game. I thought Booker got beat maybe one time, but I thought guys like Ajani Cornelius played well. Again, he didn’t allow a pressure per the early PFF numbers. Um, I thought Hakee Deni was better tonight. I thought Cooper BB did a good job. I thought Tyler Booker still like growth like there were I saw a couple like I noticed him in a good way making blocks. I was kind of cute on him, but I thought the offensive line again it did a pretty good job outside of some really like fourth quarter pressures. Um I I thought that he had plenty of time. I thought both Joe Milton and Will Greer had had time to drop back and throw. And like I I thought that if anything like there were a handful of drop backs of pressure for for Will for Joe Milton and probably even more so for Will Greer. I thought the offensive line for the most part did a pretty solid job. Perion Winfrey, want to give him some love. Couple times I noticed him making some pass rush not uh some pass rush flashes getting in the back field with some penetration too. A couple pressures for Winfrey tonight. Only the one tackle, but I thought watching live like I noticed. Okay. Hey, there he is again. And there they there there’s Winfrey doing something like positive being around the football. I noticed number number 99 a few times in the way I I didn’t notice other players on that Cowboys front. If you haven’t already, make sure you guys are subscribed. YouTube.comcowboys TV. Free Cowboys videos each and every single day right here on the channel. Plus, every Cowboys game is live. Let’s talk losers. I mean, come on. This is obvious. The quarterbacks were bad. Like, we don’t have to pretend anything other than the quarterback stunk tonight, or I should say Saturday night. Joe Milton was nine of 18 for 122 yards and an interception. He began the game one of four for two yards with a net of negative one. The first half he was two of eight for 14 yards in a pick. What are we doing out here? He has to be better. You know, Shotty kind of said like, “Oh, you know, I got to believe the quarterbacks are good.” Are they? This is back-to-back games. Milton looked like pre-season. Joe Milton, who was bad in New England, by the way, but people only watch the highlights last year. Will Greer had a great 33 yard strike down the field to Princeton Fant and then was 0 of five after that. Like I can’t win games going 10 of 23. Couple big plays mixed in there, but like the down in down out consistency wasn’t good. You might want to start Will Greer next week cuz I I don’t have faith in Joe Milton right now. Who’s your backup QB if the games began today? JM for Joe Milton, WG for Will Greer. Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. I want to mention the actual competition because Brian Shottenhammer got up there and said, you know, we liked what we saw from from Phil Mafa. You know, we Tan Holden moving up the depth chart. But are they? There weren’t any changes outside of Zion to getting reps with the ones at at nickel. Phil Mafa was again behind my Sanders. He was again behind Duce Vaughn. MafA had a great eight-yard run. had another penalty involved on one two but 2.3 yards per carry doesn’t do much for me. He he he based on the Cowboys rotation who plays first is a good indication of what the depth chart is. Phil Mafa is still behind Deuce Vaughn Tan Holden. Brian Sh says he played great up the depth chart. No, he’s not. He was the last receiver in the game again. He’s not moving up the depth chart based on how the Cowboys actually play him. If you wanted to see him do stuff, you would have put him out there earlier in the actual game. Like I don’t need to see more Jaylen Craropper. I’m sorry. Now those are different receivers. Craropper plays slot. I get that stuff. But like we get holding on the field. Craropper is a great loser by the way. Had a horrible drop on Milton’s best throw of the first like almost three quarters. Had a had a bad drop. like I I need more and it is the preseason but this next loser look expectations are always high with the Dallas Cowboys the goals are always high the lack of faith around Brian Shottimer was was real going in he made a point hey pregame like hey you know what do you want to do better Brian we we got to stop start harder stop start start hotter what were the results negative five yards of offense defense in the first quarter. They stunk again. This is back-to-back preseason games. It’s the preseason. You’re being vanilla. I know that the Cowboys have come out and look unprepared and look wildly inferior. Even if it is the backups, shotty says they’re going to be vanilla. They’re going to hit the seven iron. Okay. Hit the seven iron. L don’t sit out there and say you’re being conservative when you’re trying to hit a seven iron 165 in the middle of the fairway and you’re hitting it 45 yards left of of the fairway. What are you doing? You can be vanilla. You have to be good with vanilla. People like vanilla ice cream because it tastes good. If it tastes crappy, no one wants it. Right now it’s the preseason. I know that. need to see a lot more from this Cowboys team or else those concerns around Bryant Shottimer we all had when they hired him aren’t going to go away. So, what is the who who do you think I should say is the biggest Cowboys preseason loser against the Ravens? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Kind of mentioned the run game earlier. I think the run defense was was also pretty bad. Um the the final numbers look okay. It’s 3.8 8 yards per carry. I thought that they allowed too many big runs at key moments. Deionis Johnson ran all over them. 5.5 yards per carry. Rasheen Ali got bottled up a few times. It’s It’s tough to win games when you’re out there to be fair. 79 snaps on offense, 50 in the first half. I just I I think I think more is needed from this Cowboys run defense. You know, I Where was Mazy Smith? Did anyone notice him really watching live? Did anyone kind of I I noticed him a few times getting pushed six yards downfield? I can’t have that from my defensive tackle. My big guy in the middle has to be better. I know he ain’t 337 anymore, but I need a lot more from this Cowboys run defense. I get that it’s the preseason. You’re not playing OSA and Salomon Thomas, etc., but like all my concerns I had going to the preseason going to the run defense are still there. [Music]

  1. Our first two games are against the 2024 Super Bowl champions and a transformed 2-0 Giants team that now has Russel Wilson throwing to Malik Nabers and the #1 ranked D-Line in the league. Yeah if you can’t already tell it’s gonna be a long season

  2. This is going to be a long, long year. Everyone keeps dismissing the importance of preseason games. I say, not so fast. The blade is sharpened in training camp, and it's honed to a fine edge during the preseason games. I think the first two preseason games have given us a preview of what's coming. Teams will simply be running the ball against a front seven that can't stop a girl scout troop from pushing past them to get to the front door of a Walmart to set up their stand to sell cookies. Opposing teams will be jamming the ball down their throats all year. Get ready to see teams get up on them by three or four points late in games and then just wear down the defense and run out the clock. This could be the making of a five win season. They will not finish above .500. And if Dak goes down with another season ending injury, this could be a two or three win season.

  3. The biggest loser of the preseason so far, the fans. The Jones d-bags seriously just don't care about the product on the field and here we are 30 years later with nothing to show for it.

  4. My take is simple. And a person that was online said during the live feed of the game. How can anyone, possibly evaluate WR talent? When the QB play is Horrible.

  5. 110 PERCENT AGREED, SHOTTY HAS ME WORRIED AND THE MICAH DEAL HAS ME WORRIED MORE MILTON WAS THE BIG LOSER, LOOK HE HAD NUMBER 2 AND NOW MAYBE NOT, THERE ARE RUNNERS UP, MAZI, CRAPPER,

  6. If you never play starters is pre season, that means our first pre season game will be the first regular season game against the Eagles. 2- 14 or 3 – 14 prediction that might reveal a 1st round pick. However, JJ/SJ would most likely mess that up…. But, go, Dallas.

  7. If Dak goes down we will 100% have the first round pick next year. Because these bum QBs are worse than Cooper Rush and as such will win way less games than last year.

  8. Okay its fine for Schotty to play with this "Vanilla" playstyle that he is got going on but you can NOT be acting all coy and suspicious in the preseason. We have to understand that this offense has to be better and I gave them a top 10 offense this year with the additions of GP, Williams, and Sanders (if he makes the team). Plus the 2 rookies in Blue and Mafah as well. I need to see more this Friday when we play the Falcons because I am TIRED of coming into games and being unprepared for a matchup. Does this team NOT realized that we have a massive game coming up in week 1 at Philly on banner night where we will be on national TV and we MIGHT get our butts kicked?!?!? Im sorry but Schotty needs to do more and I need to see RESULTS from this team because if I do NOT see some ideas drawn up from Schotty and if the defense does NOT step up come week 1, I will have MAJOR concerns going into this season and I will NOT like what the outcomes will be.

  9. Another year of watching teams gash the defense for six to ten yards on every running play. The 'Boys don't know how to find big men in the middle of the D-line.

  10. When Milton was drafted last yr he was a project…to expect him to be our #2 this yr is not realistic. Mazi was a reach in first rd and is just not good. He's getting pushed around by players who probably won't make their teams.

  11. Given how inept the front office is, I wouldn't be surprised if Stephen and Jerry came up with a trade package… Micah Parsons and next year's first rounder for Gardner Minshew or something similar. That's sarcasm btw. So tired of billionaires, like Jerah, who ruin it for everyone.

  12. Naw compare it to will mcclays passing on tj watt and picked taco Charlton . He + mazi two typical mcclay busts Marshawn knee land. Doesn't even get in the way . Gets run over + around . Another where was sam williams . Never mention bass or Hoffman. Bias again tommy you got to appease your woke following . Uaer gonna dog groer to keep him . Off roster bias again . Where's your expertise come from . No playing experience . Other than Madden video games . Well turning on y'all's woken heimer . He was woke pick . You can't have it anymore .gonna have a long year tommy boy . Once again as will mcclay is personall director and scouting . Same old same old busts . 23 years and count ing what has he accomplished got new contract . Making a laughing stock out of once proud organization mclays a big problem . 🐺👀

  13. Preseason or not, we all know but don't want to admit that the Dallas Cowboys are not going to be good this year. We hear every year that "we're all in," but nothing really improves or changes; if anything, we are getting worse. We had a decent team four years ago, but we can never retain good players. Instead, we trade or replace them with mediocre to poor players from other teams, or we acquire individuals like Mazzi, who shouldn't even be playing football with his poor skills and abilities. Every year, there is some on-field drama, off-field drama, and always Jerry Drama (which he loves by the way). So, again, football has not even begun, and I'm already looking forward to the start of other fall and spring sports to watch. Go…(fill in the blank with a good team that will actually play well). Sorry, Dallas fans, but another disgraceful year is upon us.

  14. Need Shedeur…at least it will give Jerry another distraction. Dak is likely to be hurt as usual, and this back up is a disaster in the making. Coach Shott has been dealt a non-winning hand, but he has definitely learned quickly how not to answer any relevant question. There is not one casual observer who doesn't know this team is in trouble, as far as wins are concerned.
