Marlins vs Red Sox Game Highlights (8/17/25) | MLB Highlights

Garrick Rocher 13-5 to 48 RA lost for the first time last time out since May 26th. That in Houston and the Socks trying for another home sweep with their ace on the mound. And with a win today, the Red Sox would sweep their seventh series of the year. They have already surpassed their total number of sweeps from last year, which was five. How about this? If they win today, it’s 25 of 30 games here at Finway Park they’ve won. That’s the first time they will done that since 2008. Bat boy on the Red Sox side of the field and gets a new ball for Garrett Crochet. Eric Wagman right-handed hitting first baseman. Oh, this is driven high and deep out towards left center field. Way back there and gone. Eric Wagaman hammered one off of Garrett Crochet to give the Marlins a one- nothing lead. He drilled that. That was a fast ball. Four seam fast. Got on top of it. 416 ft, 111 m an hour off of that bat. So, the Marlins jump out in front. It’ll bring up Derek Hill, the center fielder with one away and a swing and a miss to strike him out and two gone. Edwards fanned his first time up. He’ll sting that one on the move. Anthony will make the catch on a sinking line drive. Waggman got his. One- nothing Miami. Miami with a solo home run and the lead one- nothing. Oh, we have time. Let’s take a look at Jansen Junk’s pitching arsenal. Four seam sliders sweeper curve change. That curve ball change up mainly just to lefties. The sweeper to righties likes that sweeper a lot for strikeouts. He’s retired to first six. Abraham Toro is playing third base today. That’s going to drop down for a base hit. Toro aboard and first base runner for the Socks today. First pitch to Raphaela. That one is swinging bunt on the ground over the third baseman Senoha. He’s got it. He fires on the move. Up to second goes Toro. And there’s one away now for Narvayz, the catcher. Up the middle, but right to Xavier Edwards who throws out Narvay. Toro goes to third, but now there are two out. And we’ll go back to the top of the order. Ground ball towards first. That’s a fair ball. Wagamin’s got will take it to the bag himself and jump works around the leadoff single. Augustine Ramirez is 0 for one again. He has pop in the bat with 18 home runs and that’s going to be in there. Caught him looking. Great pitch. 98 to freeze him and struck him out. One away. Five for Garrett. Moto Lopez 0 for one. He’s grounded a short reaches out. A grounder up the middle. Sedon gets him. Red Sox 10 and two in the last 12 starts for Garrett Crochet. Here’s Hernandez 0 for one with a strikeout. Lunging and a fly ball into left field for Anthony. All the way to the track. He’s got it. That took nine pitches. 27 pitches, 20 strikes from the right-hander. He struck out Jiren Durant in the first inning and that’s going to be inside. He walks him. He goes, pitches low. Here’s the throw down and not going to get him. He hangs on to the bag. He’s safe with number 20. That’s a big play right there. And I’m telling you, in games like this, you got to get on the board. You have to manufacture runs. You’re not stringing together a ton of hits against this guy the way he’s throwing the ball. Got to use the speed and athleticism that this team has on the roster. Red Sox just their second base runner today. Ground ball to the first baseman. Wagamin will handle that. Red Sox get a man down to third with two down. So it falls on Willard Breu to pick up this RBI. He’s 0 for one with a fly out to center. Two innings in a row. Get a runner over to third base with two outs and cash in right here. Willard swinging a hot fly ball to right field. driving back. Meyers back all the way to the bullpin and trying to make the catch and the ball goes over the fence. The ball is gone. How about that? Myers went all the way to the 380 mark. That winds up a two-run homer. Obie, that was in his glove. It was. He had that robbed in the way Fenway is. the low wall out there in right. It hit him under his arm and jarred the ball from his glove and it fell over the fence for the homer. He had that in his glove. William Abra with his 22nd. This is incredible. Nothing safe today. Miami continues to put men on. Senoa is going to take a four pitch walk. And now they’ve got the leadoff man in the seventh. Little bounding ball to third. Toro will fire on to first base and got him. Romy hanging on to the bag and once again they’ve got a man in scoring position with less than two out. Now the one two pitch that one is strike three. Tried to check his swing at another sweeper and could not. So Weame in his Marlins debut was 0 for three with three strikeouts and Crochet has fanned eight. And a ground ball up the middle stopped by Son and he got it and Crochet gets on that and Strands a runner at third base. Good start for the Red Sox here in the bottom of the seventh. That’s nice. Get your lead off batter on. Need to get a run or two here. Need a little bit of separation. Trying to get on track. He struck out twice today. There’s a ricochet off junk into right field. He’s got a hit. Down to third goes William Bra. A glancing blow. The Red Sox have them on the corners and nobody out. Toro offers it. The first one, lifts a fly ball to left. Should be deep enough to score a run. We the catch. She’ll throw to second base. And on to score. The Red Sox lead three to one. And William has scored two of the three Red Sox runs. The Riby for Abraham is his 27th. So that makes things a bit more comfortable. Two rattle up the middle. That rolls to center. A sliding stab. The runner will hold at third. Romy will stay put at third. Nice play there by Lopez. If that does get into center, that’s scoring Romy Gonzalez. No doubt about it. And now Junk sees Roman Anthony and the one pitch. Anthony rolls to the backand of X. He’s got it. He sets his feet, tosses to first, and the inning is over. So junk strands two, but a run comes in on a sacrifice fly. And Boston has some breathing room. But Whitlock has some good numbers. She pitched on Friday, a third of an inn, and gave up a hit. And Marcy bounces one through the right side in a pinch off the bench. He’s now one for two pinch hitting this season. Leadoff man aboard in the tying run. Kevin coming to the plate just like that for the Marlins. Oh, got him. Augustine hit for the second time today. He’s got his eyes closed and that one really hurt. You know, Whitlock’s trying to come inside. Let’s see where this gets him. He lifts his arm. Yeah. Right. Might be just enough fat and muscle right there instead of getting him in the ribs in the upper tricep underneath the shoulder blade. Longest will go to first. We’ll jog it out. Liam stays put. He’ll get an eighth pitch of the atbat and he’s fouled off three in a row. Pitch again. That one past the dive of the third baseman Bregman into left for a base hit. That brings in X and Liam Hicks waits out Whitlock. He shoots an RBI single the other way and it’s a one-run game. The tying run in scoring position with two men gone in the top of the eighth. It’s 32 Boston. 19 pitches, 14 strikes. Yeah, we got him two here. You got to finish him. Got to put him away. Swing and a miss. He got him. He struck him out with that slider. They do get one but two stranded. Red Sox up 3-2. Middle of the eighth. Do the Marlins have one more comeback in them? Let’s see. 01 coming to Dane Meers. A shot in the air to right center field. Pretty deep. Raphael is going back. Warning track. Wall gone. Tied. The great DNE ties it here in the ninth. That ball just kept on carrying. Dane Meyers with a leadoff solo shot to right center into the Boston bullpen. knots this game at three. Weisser comes on immediately allows a solo opposite field homer to Meyers. You just can’t overstate how unacceptable that was yesterday to burn the closer in a game you led by five. Now Coral won’t bring on the lefty to take on Marcy. Steven Mats is on. He has not yet allowed an earned run with the Red Sox. Marcy rips one down the right field line. This is deep for the lead. Jacob Marcy gets the Marlins a 5-3 lead here in the ninth. How about this rookie Jacob Marcy? You are unbelievable, man. Left on left. He yanks a homer out to right in Boston. He takes Wagamman with him and the two-run shot makes it 53 fish in the top of the ninth. We’ll see if they can bounce back and Bregman will lead it off here in the bottom of the ninth inning. Red Sox with a lot of work to do. Down two off the middle [Applause] leadoff man on in the ninth inning. Bregman with a single. The Socks are down to their last man and Son Raphaela and he takes ball four. Red Sox are still breathing. First and second, two down for Narvay. Red Sox are still breathing. First and second, two down for Narvz. The 02 popped him buff. This should do it. Edward started in. Now he’s going out. Dane Meyers is coming in and the ball game is over. Dane Meyers and Jacob Marcy win it for the Marlins in the ninth. Miami wins on a Sunday. Red Sox were hopeful of the sweep. This one, even though the Red Sox take two out of three, leaves a rather bitter taste.

  1. Since Boston's bullpen made Chapman have to work on his off day yesterday! He wasn't available when they really needed him. Crochet set the table for a sweep to.🀦 Smh

  2. INEXCUSABLE TO BE A TOP 5 BIG MARKET TEAM AND NOT INVEST IN QUALITY AND SUSTAINABLE STARTING PITCHING AND A SOLID BULLPEN. BESIDES Chapman, WILSON AND SLATEN NO ONE ELSE IS WORTHY TO BE IN THE BULLPEN!!! F JOHN HENRY AND F BRESLOW.

  3. What an ABSOLUTE WASTE for Crochet. Furthermore, it's Truly Amazing how pathetic in general mid relievers and especially closers lose game after game after game. Yet they get paid Obscene Amounts of Money !!!
