It wasn’t and Tucker hasn’t been playing well but people will just dog pile. Happ had an excellent game and the one time he struck out people want caissie in or were calling him a bum.
Maybe if it were somewhere with a padded wall and Tucker didn’t have to worry about cracking his skull open on bricks
Because when a team brings in a guy billed as a superstar fans will turn on him and start labeling him as a quitter as soon as things start to turn. The early narrative on him was that he doesn’t care on defense because if a ball drops anywhere within 20 feet of him he didn’t run hard, didn’t dive, quit on the ball, etc. I couldn’t believe that people were labeling that ball as catchable. But fans are gonna fan.
I’m not a doomsdayer and I find the negativity extremely frustrating.
However…
Watching it live I thought Tucker could have made more of an effort to catch the ball. As well… I don’t get how that’s 20’… Wrigley’s warning track is only 14′
It had a .05% catch rate according to Statcast, and that’s without adding in a wall adjustment for running into a brick wall.
