it’s wild, China basically copies/imitates Western stuff and then when their local stuff has caught up they abandon the real thing (think like the movie industry, electric cars, atm), but they’re still rolling out the red carpet for global sports superstars. lol if i was a star on tour there i’d be half-jokingly wary about leaving any of my DNA (saliva, hair folicles, etc.) lying about during the tour cuz there’s a non-zero chance that they’ve got scientists in a hidden lab trying to splice Steph/Lebron/Harden/etc. DNA with Chinese DNA to create some basketball national superteam in twenty years lol
