Edmonton Oilers Most Likely To Be TRADED… As Of Right Now
Hey friends, this is Dolly TV live from the studio for the first time in a little while. Feels good to be back down and relaxing after what was a busy weekend down there at Country Thunder Old Dominion. Topping off what was a fantastic weekend, that’s for sure. So, I’m looking forward to getting back to Oilers news. Obviously, we’re closing in now. What? It’s August 18th. We’re almost 12 days away from September. Starting tomorrow, I guess. So, uh let’s get to it. What do we need to know? What do we need to figure out? Well, a whole bunch of extensions. First off, Connor’s still not signed. And then ultimately, there are going to still need to be some roster decisions made, even possibly before training camp truly gets underway. I know for those of you that listen to Oilers now every single day, specifically through the summer and summer 2025 at that Bob Staer has been mentioning all summer that the Oilers are one forward too heavy and that a trade will be necessary if the Oilers truly want to capture the best roster and of course the cap space available to them if they so choose. So before we get too too much further, if you are new to the channel, consider hitting that subscribe button over here on Dolly TV. would love to have you aboard as a regular subscriber. It just kind of helps you get the videos that much easier when they come out. So, what do we know? Well, we know there’s possibly from my look at the roster here, possibly three guys really that the Oilers will have to explore. And that’s the big key term here, explore, trading either during camp or before camp, kind of between now and then. So, you know, it’s it’s tough to say because obviously these are guys that, you know, came in over the past year or so and maybe in a case of another one a couple of years and has contributed. And for the Oilers, you know, we’ve had so much shuffle. We’ve had so much change specifically in both off seasons following the Stanley Cup finals. And it’s weird to sit here and say that we need more change again simply because I think the answer last year for everybody would have been less change and the answer this year is more change. So make of it what you will to that I say here’s the names and let’s get further. as the players to trade. I I think it’s been made honestly out to be that it’ll be Matias Yanmark as the odd man out for the Edmonton Oilers with the additions of Ike Howard, with the addition of Matt Seavoy, obviously Curtis Lazar, um the necessary need to get one Noah Phillip into the lineup in regular action this year. That makes Matias Yanmark, but also Max Jones, who again, you’d be wondering, well, why Max Jones? Why would you trade him? He’s a great call up from Bakersfield if you need him. The reason why you’d be looking at Max Jones is what actually shocked me is he’s on a million-doll contract this year. I thought he was sitting somewhere around that, you know, 700 800 range, but he’s actually on a million- dollar contract. And what that hurts for the Edmonton Oilers is simply, you know, Matias Yanmark’s at 1.45, Max Jones at 1 million, you got Josh Brown in there as well at the million-doll mark. And these are three guys that again, if they’re not going to play play regularly, they are going to be chewing up a considerable part of your cap space, whether they’re sitting down there on the bench in the press box, whatever you want to say, or in Josh Brown’s case, just organizational money. I think the Oilers quite honestly are very happy from everything it looks like to pay Josh Brown the million dollars to sit in the minor, a million dollars not to play. But for the Oilers, when it comes to Matias Yanmark and Max Jones, I don’t think he can necessarily justify that as much. Max Jones again at a million-dollar cap hit, I don’t think that’s the worst situation to have him down in the minor. That’s why he’s just on the list as opposed to at the top of the list where we find Matias Yanmark and everything that’s gone on for Yanmar last year, right? Never scored a goal, passed a goalie with his stick, I think is the old adage until playoffs. And yeah, Mark, again, he’s been a playoff performer for us, but there’s two Stanley Cup finals in a row where everybody just kind of goes a lot more quiet once you get up against the Florida Panthers. So, you know, trying to find that shuffle or trying to, you know, build a better lineup that’ll break through against a possible third matchup against the Florida Panthers because I I’m going to tell you, if anything looks the most likely right now, that’s exactly what looks the most likely for the Edmonton Oilers. And you know, rightfully so, is you’ve got guys that have been here the full time. And not saying that Connor, Leon, Nooj, uh we would have loved to have Heyman, but all those guys have to step up against the Florida Panthers if there is a third rematch. But again, the guys that have been here the longest as well are going to have to step up. And whether you know you can justify that with Matias Yanmark having another hoham nothing to write home about regular season and then you know a couple of flashes in the playoffs. I don’t think necessarily that’s a good strategy this time around. Right. The Oilers have allowed players to have quite a runway here and same can be said for Adam Henrique. I know Henrik’s kind of got a different story because the no movements uh no trade clause situation, but for the Oilers, it’s it’s really coming down to there will be a roster crunch this year. And no matter what, I I think these are three guys on the outside looking in. Whether you want to talk about the regular 12 up front playing and the regular seven on the back playing uh or if you want to talk about just overall a roster of 22 or 23 Matias Yanmark Max Jones and Josh Brown are being very tough to make it again that that Max Jones and Matias Yanmark thing Matias Yanmark’s more of just it makes sense to move the $1.45 four or five million cap hit alleviate a roster spot fill that with somebody less pricey like a Noah Phelp and then all of a sudden look at what you’ve got right you’ve got you know 600k of cap space acrewing over the course to the trade deadline and you filled it with a guy that needs playing time so for the Oilers I don’t know I I mean you know these are maybe names that everybody has looked at or whatever and Josh Brown and Max Jones I will also caution you if you’ve gotten this far are guys that if you lose on the waiver wire It’s not going to be a big deal either way that settles up. I think the end goal for the organization would just not be having both of them playing in Bakersfield at the same time this year. Uh at least, you know, Bakersfield is going to be a really fun young team to watch this year. The average age is going to be somewhere around that 26 year old mark. And that’s going to be a lot of fun for an organization that has had a vet problem in Bakersfield for two years running now. So for an Oilers team that’s on the up and up in the prospect rankings and obviously on the up and up in the Stanley Cup rankings as well to see that uh you’ve got a couple of guys that question marks remain around at you know August 18th maybe not the biggest deal but again getting closer and closer to training camp and starting to build the roster and starting to see where the contending points are because we still have eight preseason games yet on this CBA. uh basically figuring out what what is to happen and three guys right there that you can very easily make some arguments might not have a place. I think Matias Yanmark again maybe the most notable Max Jones again if you send him to the minor not a big deal. Josh Brown. I think definitely trying to find something there from an organization standpoint to alleviate that million dollars would be huge. But again, that’s just million dollars spent against the team as opposed to the cap if he’s not on the roster because he can bury that $1.15 million. So for the Oilers, you know, right? I I don’t know. Can you can you figure it out a little bit there and move Matias Yanmark, you know, cut down the roster by one player and allow a minor leager to come up like a James Hamlin, like a Noah Phelp, somebody to get in there and get the job done in a different capacity than maybe, you know, Matiasmark did. Well, we’ll find out. But again, these are my three players that I’m looking at the organization likely maybe finding a trade for pre-trade uh or pre waiver wire period here for the NHL and training camp. Now, that’ll also add to Max Jones is Max Jones is one where I I don’t think you necessarily have to find a trade because there is a maybe more comfortable spot for him on the Bakersfield Condors. Friends, for right now though, I am up on out of here. Thank you for being aboard. Just wanted to chat some Oilers today. I got the day off, so who really cares, right? Get something up and get you talking. So definitely in the comments below, if you’re thinking it’s Matias Yanmark, let me know. Right now though, I’m up on gone.
In today’s Edmonton Oilers video on Dolynny TV, I take a look at three players I believe are most likely to be traded by the Oilers right now.
