Steelers Meeting With Gabe Davis Again

The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing in a familiar face for meeting number two. According to ESPN’s Adam Shfter, Gabe Davis is on his way here to UPMC Rooney Sports Complex to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a second time. The first one happened in June. He left. They probably took him through a physical, tested the knee after he tore his meniscus last season and things did not work out. He left. He continued to visit teams like the Saints looking for a home this season. Now he comes back. He’s signed nowhere. In the meantime, the Pittsburgh Steelers have dealt with injuries at wide receiver. They still continue to look for that second option next to DK Metaf. Roman Wilson has looked good. Calvin Austin’s supposed to be that guy, but he’s dealing with an oblique injury that we don’t know when he’ll be back. The Steelers don’t really know when he’ll be back. With two weeks before the first game of the regular season, I think everybody in Pittsburgh is looking around going, “It’s time for action.” And that action apparently is Gabe Davis. Or at least it looks like it could be Gabe Davis. He’ll come here. Chances are him, Omar Khan, Mike Tomlin, Arthur Smith, maybe even Aaron Rogers will meet, talk, discuss some things about now, the future in the season, where they can go to in terms of a contract and where he is health-wise. They might test that knee once again. But Gabe Davis is expected to be cheap. He signed a a multi-year deal with the Jaguars last season. Spent one year with them. Struggles, got injured. The offense didn’t really look good. They drafted Travis Hunter. And before then, even Gabe Davis ended up in the free agency market. The Steelers aren’t expected to sign anybody for a lot of money at this point in the offseason, but Gabe Davis isn’t going to cost much. And the Steelers can most likely look at him as an outside option with plenty of experience and a lot of good games against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I mean, we could all remember sitting there in the press box in Buffalo, watching Gabe Davis reach over Levi Wallace for a touchdown, and really, it was just that moment where you thought Gabe Davis might end up in a black and gold uniform one day. Seven touchdowns, three out of his four years in Buffalo. The fourth year is six touchdowns. Again, I don’t think it changes anything for Roman Wilson. We’ll touch on this more on the podcast tomorrow, but I I I think it’s just uh hey, we need somebody on the outside. We don’t know what’s going on with Calvin right now. Maybe he’s going to be back for week one, but maybe he’s not. And at the same time, he’s missed so much time that we don’t know if he’s jumping on a moving train and how ready he’ll be immediately. I think it’s just a have a fourth option. Get that guy in here, get somebody else for the outside, and then work your inside guys and Roman and Calvin when Calvin’s healthy and not have to really stress about this anymore. We’re getting to the point where the Pittsburgh Steelers want to make a move. They’ve shown their hand that they want to make a move. Well, Gabe Davis comes to Pittsburgh once again. He’ll be here, the building right through that door there in I don’t know who I don’t know how how soon or how late, but him, Omar, Mike T, chances are a couple other people will meet, talk, and discuss the future. We’ll see what happens.

  4. Gabe Davis played hurt last year for the Jags. That's a lot different than playing healthy with the Bills. If he's healthy this is a good add for the Steelers. He's in his prime and only 26 years old.

  17. Why is everyone sad about releasing a 4th string wide receiver that didn’t look very good in camp 😂 yes release a guy who might not even make the practice squad for a player who will actually play!

  23. Good fit for Smith's O. Don't need another $30M star for WR2. Just a big body deep threat who can block and play Z. Perfect replacement for Robert Woods. He is both young and experinced. And he can fill the X-reciever role in a pinch if DK needs a beather. They definitly have too many slot guys right Now. Calvin, Roman, Muuth, Smith, Scotty are slot only. They only other Z is Ben S and if he has to play Z for more than a couple snaps, we are in trouble.

  24. What they need to do is find someone to replace Broderick Jones immediately. I know it’s preseason, but last two games I’ve watched him straight up give up on blocks, his footwork is trash, and he has no drive. Yes Gabe would be nice, but the Steelers have a huge problem at Left Tackle!

  28. 2nd visit ? How stupid. You had him in once, its either a yes or no then. Are you gonna wait until week 1 to sign an outside wr ? Complete stupidity by Kahn. Should have had that outside guy here weeks ago and learning the offense
