Cardinals vs. Marlins Game Highlights (8/18/25) | MLB Highlights

ST Louis Cardinals and the Marlins in town. The Jupiter Pals getting back out here in South Florida. Marlins won the series in Saint Louis end of last month, two games to one shutting out the Redbirds in the last two games of the series. Perez last two starts, he’s given up five bombs here. His previous six have been good but the last two kind of struggling a bit with that home run. He only walked two in the last two games. So that hasn’t been an issue. Infield is shifted to pool. You will see large new bar to open up the ball game and that one locked him up. That’s a nice start right there. Good heater at 99. A lot of hitters will get locked up with that 99 in that spot. Here’s Ivo Herrera who was hitless against the Marlins back in ST Louis time to change that and that’s a good way to do it. Herrera gets a breaking ball and smashes that into left field. There goes the no hitter for Perez, a one out single in the opening inning ball, four slider and Burleson held up after the strike out a single and a walk there. Two on and one gone for wilson Contreras who back in the lineup pitch to wilson Contreras that one hammered high in the air out to left ballpark holding this Marcy shy the track makes the catch in left center and there are two men gone Herrera at second and Burleson at first. Here’s Mason. Here it comes and he hits it softly left side. So no, got it. He’ll go the long way to first, got him by a couple of strides and Yuri strands a pair. Matthew Lito. The lefty will get the start. Here’s a guy that is really increasing. A lot of innings. The numbers he is struggling as of late Lopez will lead off for the third time this season. His first pitch to Otto Lopez that was smacked out to right center field. That’s it for a base hit. It rolls right by Otto into second. He takes a turn there but he shuts it down on the first pitch. Liberator throws it is an opposite field, screaming double and the Marlins have a runner in scoring position right away. That’s got to feel good for Otto Lopez. This is Augustin ramirez 56 driven Ramirez Bangs one into center field sinking fast that is down in front of church for a base hit and the Marlins have him at 1st and 3rd with nobody out out of the gate. An early opportunity here for the Marlins batter is Jacob Marcy Marcy slams one out to left field. Burleson is going back. He’s got it tagging from third and scoring easily is Otto Lopez and just like that, it’s 1 to 0. Miami in the outside for a ball. Four batters and three base Ramirez advancing to third hernandez down to second two away. Eric Wageman is next strike three outside corner and it was a crisp fastball has his first strikeout and a big spot in the first one man next up Thomas JC 0 to 9 against the Marlins. He kicks and fires a 1 to 2 slider and he got second strikeout of the night for Yuri and ball four over cooked. That’s two walks in as many innings for Perez and is on second representing the tying run two wild pitches already in two innings for Perez. Cardinals struggles with runners in scoring position since the break. Let’s see if church can improve those statistics and tie the game got filthy sitting on 98 got 78 in the inning is over. Here is the first major league plate appearances for one. Maximo. A strike three called. Welcome to the big leagues. Two strikeouts for Liberator driven to right center on the run. What a sensational catch by the rookie church got to the track. He didn’t give up on it and turned in the play, Herrera singled in the first inning on a miss good sweeper. And again, that’s four straight breaking balls low and away his fourth punch out. He picked up strikeouts with the fastball 9899 strikeout with the slider this time with a good sweeper. There’s one man going ramirez singled and was stranded in the first and that’s a called strike three on the outside corner. He was fooled by that a bit late breaking curveball from Liberto and out number 22 pitches, a called strike three and he strikes out two in the inning and Matthew Liberto found his groove here as he’s retired eight straight and four of them are strikeouts. Looking Perez back out there. Wilson Contreras Cardinal clean up man in the first baseman that lock him up. He’s halfway back to the one here comes the express. It’s five strikeouts, two is cut on and missed a changeup and Gorman punches out. Yuri has his sixth K. Matthew Liberto retire his ninth straight batters one away. Swing out of this 94 up and out of the zone. Fifth strikeout 94 upstairs exactly where they were trying to go. Seven home runs. He has driven in 40 pitch to w that one out to center and deep church is back and it’s gone back to back games with a homer and the 82 homer. Number eight on the year 409 ft later, it’s 20 Marlins in the bottom of the fourth, maybe. This is the inning. The Cardinals put something together on the ground slowly to second. Safe Maximo about two before he caught it and Then nearly ran into the second base umpire. Well, there’s an opening to, aboard for the top of the order. S new takes a pitch in the dirt that bounces off ramirez and the runners advance to 2nd and 3rd, the base hit needed. Now, Ricky, he did it. The Cardinals are on the board goes the other way and the Redbirds cash in the third walk of the night from Yuri Perez. We’ve got a 2 to 1 game, a 3 to 2 pitch. Yvon herrera was 2nd and 3rd 1 out. Herrera takes outside. The bases are loaded for Alec Burleson. Here comes Clay, the bases loaded and one out in the top of the fifth. Yuri Perez is going to get taken out of this game and he is not going to be in line for a victory here tonight. It’s been a messy fifth inning. Really has four walks in the game for Yuri Perez. Ronnie Enriquez is coming into this one and you’ve got Burleson coming up, he’s walked and bounced out a base hit. Could give the Cardinals the lead ground ball knocked out. That is going to be a hit. It’s going to tie the game 22. Burleson an RBI, a new life for the Redbirds a little life here. This is the big inning for the Cardinals need to keep this going. The bases are loaded for wilson Contreras high fly ball to center hill, sets up green shoes blazing at third is going to tag and come home and score. It’s a sacrifice fly for Contreras comes home and the Cardinals with three runs in the fifth inning, have taken their first lead. Not a happy Yuri Perez right now , upset with himself. He got his eyes shut, rethinking every pitch he threw what could have gone differently squares to he pops it up. It’s caught by Ronnie to end the inning. The damage done three across two RB I singles and a sacrifice fly. Augustin Ramirez will lead off the bottom of the sixth and he rips one deep down the left field line into the corner and off the wall. Burleson will have to snatch it up and the Marlins have the tying run at second with nobody out one pitch into the bottom of the sixth. A couple of really good rips from Augustine tonight. Liberto works into the sixth and he’ll have to pitch out of stretch facing their sensation. Jacob Marcy who drove in a first inning run, he shoots one of the shallow left. This is big trouble that’s going to get down for a base hit. Ramirez is around third. He’s going to score. Marcy is on his way to second with an RB I. When you’re going good, you’re going good. He bloops that one into shallow left field. Great baserunning, great a pinch hitter coming up, liam Hicks a left handed batter batting for Wageman Liam Hicks, 354 with runners in scoring position, still one out and runners at 1st and 3rd base line to first and a double play. Hicks into a double play that keeps us tied, has a single, a strikeout and a walk. He hits with two outs here in the seventh inning, tired the right fielder backing him up and he is on the warning track and he flat out, drops it. He dropped the ball on the track and the second base is herrera. That’s going to be a two base error by the right fielder Myers. He just flat out dropped it. He whiffed on it, didn’t make that an infield hit and an RB I swing and a base hit. Here comes herrera around makes him pay for the mistake in right and the Cardinals are back in front. That’s been the story of the night. Offensively hits have been tough to come by Brad but extra chances lead to extra runs for the Redbirds when they matter the most. This time, Bach tried to go with that split finger. Obviously, he wants it down away to the left handed hitting Alec Burleson. That is a sacrifice punt for Jay Z and the putout goes 1 to 3. Gorman pushes to second with one away. It will be pedro Pages shot to right. That’s down for a hit. Here comes Gorman around third. Here comes the throw to the plate not cut off, does it again? He gives the Cardinals a two run lead with a base hit to right center, aggressive base running pop. Water was sending Gorman the entire way. Had no problem testing the arm of Dane myers. It’s a five to three game. The Cardinals have their ninth hit to this inning. Here’s Mason Nguyen looking to break an 0 to 90 for four tonight. Huge lead for Hampson at second. N drives this one to right myers going back, he’ll back pedal makes the catch and Hampson will tag and move up to third without a throw. So productive out for Mason 1st and 3rd now for the Cardinals and one out and here’s Nolan Gorman a swing and a miss and the ball gets away coming down the line. Hampson scores two and two on Nolan Gorman and the Cardinals have six runs up on the board leading 6 to 3. Gorman towering fly ball deep. Right. That one is on a two run homer. Lefty lefty for Gorman Gorman with a lefty, lefty hit a 365 ft homer and the Cardinals have blown it open this 12 here from Simpson, he ends up throwing them. This slider is just middle in and this is a thing of beauty wing of Gorman. Two outs go get this guy. So Noah, the Marlins third baseman strike three. That’s going to end the game with a curveball hands it for the Cardinals who blast the Marlins 8 to 3. ST Louis’s offense came to life late, but pitching was excellent.

  1. What was that for the Cards tonight? Like five unearned runs? Easy to win games when the other team spots you so many freebies.
