Fitzgerald DONE ADDING To The NJ Devils AFTER Luke Hughes SIGNS Extension?

Is Tom Fitzgerald DONE with adding to the New Jersey Devils? The Top Priority Fitzgerald said was next was to SIGN Star Defenseman Luke Hughes to his extension and this was said almost 50 days ago.
With NHL prospect tournament coming up soon and NHL training camps opening soon, can the NJ Devils make some cap room available to bring in a top 6 forward?

  1. I think Fitzgerald is done after he re-signs Luke Hughes.

Bordeleau will probably be sent down to Utica before the regular season starts & he'll play there all, or most of the, season (and possibly Lammikko, too). If that's the case, the salary cap space will rise more than $1.5 million.

  2. Fitz needs to pick up his damn phone and do his job. If Luke misses any time in camp because he isn't signed Fitz should be fired on the spot. Fitz also should be freeing up Palats 6m, if the rags could get rid of Goodrow, Trouba and Krieder who all had no move/no trade clauses it's unacceptable if Fitz can't do the same.

  3. We also signed Hameenaho to an entry level contract. We signed Lammikko to a 1 year deal and we signed Lachance to a 2 year contract. Kind of excited to see what Lachance and Hameenaho can do to force their way onto the team during the pre-season. We need to give Grits every opportunity to be in the top 6. The Juho Lammikko signing has me scratching my head, but who knows…. Honestly, they all have potential to be on the roster once the injuries start to pile up as they inevitably will…sigh…

  4. Can’t believe Fitz made the comment about the team not being good enough and then refused to buy out Palat’s contract. My hope is that he picks up 1-2 decent players from teams that’re currently over the cap and puts Kovi on IR.

  5. Forgot to mention Lammiko, Hameenaho, Lachance and the other players re-signed and brought in at the trade deadline with the other additions, but have done videos on them in the past

  6. Given how poor Fitz has been at addressing glaring problems mid-season, you'd better hope see sorts the top 6 before the season

  7. Another top 6 would be a nice luxury, but not a need imo. Usually teams sport 4 core forwards and 2 supportive #3s to complete the lines. We have that, so our money is better elsewhere.

Now a 3rd line center? Nope. Center depth was an issue last year; which shows when Nico or Jack gets hurt and we are forced to have a 4th line caliber center in our top 6. And Fitz's solution was to trade Haula (good move in a vacuum), our versatile center depth, and make our thinnest position even thinner. He needs to bring a bonified 3rd line center in for us to truly compete.

  8. I still feel like Fitz didn't address positions of need (3C, top six LW), and the biggest issue with it is that the offseason is where Fitz historically makes his biggest moves. He always sputters or is outmanuevered leading up to the trade deadline as he has the past 2 seasons. How is Palat still on this team? Drury was able to move Trouba and other bloated contracts to free up cap space. It's a make it or break it season for Fitz. I really feel like the Devils need a new GM who is willing to take big swings. The future is not bright, the future is now. This chore will age quickly, and the window will close if it continues going this way.

  9. FITZ is destroying this team. Fitz is a garbage GM who has this middling team in total cap hell.
Fitz failed to sign Mercer timely last seasonn and now Luke "the top priority of the summer" , the summer is over and he is STILL unsigned.
I have zero faith in Tom Fitzgerald and NJ will never be a consistent legitimate contender while he is the GM

  10. I think Fitz has come around to the idea that team, as currently constructed, is what last seasons team SHOULD have been. I believe he feels a healthy Jack, and Hamilton, with a scoring bottom 6, will make up for not having 2 complete top lines. Grits is guaranteed to make the 3rd line so that leaves 1 spot for LeChance, Hameenaho, et all to fight over. Not to mention that we might be carrying 3 goal tenders all season! Fitz is the worst at drafting guys then c@*% blocking them from playing.

  11. I feel like the biggest hangup on the Luke deal is term… NJD obviously wants 7-8yrs. Luke probably wants to be lined up with Jack's 5 years remaining – giving the Hughes Bros full flexibility in where they decide to play, as well as a chance to make more money with a rising cap. We'll see how it shakes out, but anything less than 6 years for Luke will be viewed as a failure by myself, personally.

  12. Fitzgerald is asleep at the wheel. We are just the same old (young) team. Bring in more ex Jersey Devils players into management and the team will be able to compete for the Cup.
