Q’s explanation for why he stuck with long. Bullpen is in a bad place in terms of rest.

  1. I don’t know how falter is doing health and rest wise but he is a starter so to me hes way more trustworthy of going more than 1 inning than long is

  2. I mean yea but falter was a starter half the season he can go like 5 innings in extras if needed. Planning on a game going to extras when it’s tied and bases loaded is not good management

  3. We also had the top of the lineup due up in the bottom half of the 9th. Play to win it there. Not 12 innings

  4. I think the issue might be that you go two innings with literally anyone else who pitched tonight over Long. He’s the one guy you can’t do that with. Push Erceg or Lynch or Clark longer if you have to. Not Long.

  5. Worst reliever on the team, despite the error this was terrible management, sam long getting the last 6 outs was a prayer for a miracle that didn’t work and everyone knew it wouldn’t. Dude can not miss bats 5 hits a walk (and the error) over 2 innings of work. You don’t save relievers for extra innings by hoping a 7 era pitcher is suddenly is good enough to get you there.

  6. I buy it. We don’t have a team rest day until next Thursday, and although every game feels must win, if we push too hard now, we just won’t make it to October. Its a marathon, and yes, we have to keep pace, but there are more demanding series in our headlights than our taillights.

  7. Should’ve been Estevez regardless. Closer goes in tied or winning at home. Keep him available on the road.
