What do you think about this possible MLB realignment after expansion?

  1. It would be tough to be an Angels and Padres fan when we’re in the same division 🙁

  2. Vegas Athletics should be South NL, it shouldn’t be called Southwest, only Arizona is in the Southwest.

  3. No more SF/LAD would be odd, but I’m all for the prospect of an awkwardly entertaining SEA/POR rivalry.

  4. Couple quick issues. No chance Giants and Dodgers are not in same division and Nashville is the favorite city to get an expansion team. The athletic has the best one I have seen.

  5. The Dodgers and A’s should switch (if we buy into the collective idea that the A’s will actually settle in Las Vegas). Two regional rivalries result (A’s vs Dbacks, Angels vs Padres), and Dodgers vs Giants can slug it out in the other bracket.

    The way it is in the example on the chart is less compelling.

    Also:

    Put Cleveland with the “Great Lakes” teams (which it literally is), move Blue Jays to the East bracket with Yankees, and move Phillies to Mid-Atlantic with Nationals, Orioles and Charlotte/Raleigh/Nashville expansion team.

    There is some weirdness to the selections on the graphics, which appear to be the wet dream of someone NYC-centric, trying to build some Premier League bracket and then putting the other teams into groupings which are almost afterthoughts.

  6. I also heard Salt Lake and Nashville getting teams, it would interesting to see how it plays out.

  7. I would prefer standings similar to nhl. Do 8 team divisions instead of 4. 4 is just weird.

  8. Move SF to NLSW so you can have a CA division. Also AZ-LV could have a sort of desert rivalry

  9. Sure, let’s just wipe out another aspect of baseball history because Manfred doesn’t understand or appreciate it.

  10. No. The way Fox does it is lazy and eliminates AL/NL and turns it into E/W. For baseball it should be similar to NFL.

    The goal with expansion/ realignment should be to have as little movement as possible. If I were to do it, it would look something like this. To help keep some Interleague and Intradivision rivalries, while kicking Houston out of the AL

    * AL West: ANA/SEA/LV/POR-SLC expansion
    * AL East: NYY/BOS/BAL/TB
    * AL North: MIN/DET/TOR/CWS
    * AL Central: TEX/KC/CLE/PIT

    * NL West: LAD/SF/SD/AZ
    * NL East: NYM/PHI/ATL/WSH
    * NL South: HOU/MIA/NSH-CHA expansion/COL (lost child tbh)
    * NL Central: CHC/MIL/CIN/StL

  11. What I like about this one is it keeps NL and AL as names even if many of the teams switch leagues

  12. Whoever came up with this map is an idiot. I dont know why it is getting spread around. MLB doesn’t want everything to be strictly regional. They want fans to care about teams half the country away and how their actions impact standings. They want Texas teams looking at California. They want California teams caring about what happens in Seattle. Shrinking the size of the region of each division shrinks the sport even if there is an expanded number of teams.

  13. Ever since the move to have every team play every other team divisions seem less necessary. Why not just rank teams, The best teams will all be in the playoffs, no strong division will end up leaving out a deserving team, tie breakers can be based on regular season record vs tied teams. This will also allow you to keep AL and NL teams in their perspective leagues instead of this setup that is basically east vs west. Then playoff spots for AL and NL will be seeded based on rank. This would do away with ALDS/NLDS if there are no divisions but im sure they can come up with some other name for what would have been the divisional rounds.

  14. Will never happen. Part of the allure to having the Angels in So CA is that they’re the only team in the AL, and forcing them into the NL is a financial no go.

  15. Not being with any of our current division rivals is a whiff and being in the NL would be weird.

    I’d also rather have 2 divisions of 8 per league instead of 4 divisions of 4.

  16. I don’t like that a Dodgers vs. Angels WS is impossible with this realignment.

    Also, how could they separate the Giants and the Dodgers? What other old school rivalries does this mess up?

  17. That is the most idiotic brain dead realignment plan I’ve ever seen. No chance of another Subway World Series? Or a North/Southside World Series? A Freeway World Series? There’s no reason at all to have teams switch leagues for realignment to work.

  18. Lol we’d never win the division again.

    Also, this list is straight up trash. There’s gotta be a better way to spilt divisions.

  19. there’s another map (remember, none of thee are official) that’s more true to current divisions and rivalries while still doing geographic realignment. i think it was Angels, Mariners, A’s, and a new team in portland or salt lake

  20. Take note: Division will be less focused on who is geographically closest and more about time zones. Some of your choices don’t reflect that reality.
