  1. This is one of those games where a HR could have changed the outcome, and the only player who’s been hitting them was sitting. We rolled out the same lineup we’ve been for the past 6 weeks, and got the same result. Tucker and Seiya bring absolutely nothing to this team when they aren’t hitting the ball hard. Dansby, PCA, and Happ can lean on their defense when the bats go cold. 2 days off isn’t going to cut it for Tuck, but I doubt we see more.

Hard to get too upset about taking 3 of 5, but that very likely locks up the division. It was kind of a pipe dream anyway at this point. I really don’t know what to do with Tucker. Between that dropped fly ball (tough play, but still), and his abysmal hitting he nearly single handedly cost us the game today.

  2. 3-0 without Tucker
    0-2 with Tucker?

I think dudes just folding under the pressure of his contract year, which would make sense since Astro fans call him a playoff choker

  3. Questionable day from counsel, I liked sticking with shota (of course the bullpen ruins his great day) but playing Tucker, and then wasting Shaw’s potential to pinch hit.

Unlucky day offensively in terms of outfield hits but also lacked some plate discipline and man we need to be better with RISP. No extra base hits either. Kept getting under the balls.

Drawing 8 BBs and only getting 1 run is criminal, especially in a game that essentially guarantees the brewers win the division if we lose.

Really should’ve gotten to 4-1 this week.

  4. So the hottest hitter Shaw is benched against our rival we are trying to catch up to….why are we paying counsel more money than any other manager?

  5. Taking 3 out 5 games and season/series wins over the best team in baseball. I’ll take that every single day

  6. Sucks we couldn’t win the 5th one, but ultimately we did what we needed to do against the Brewers this year overall. We beat the Brewers in the season series and took 4 of the 8 second half games against them. We’ve been slumping, but we were still winning enough to keep up with every other team in the league. Just nothing the Cubs can do to help 28 other MLB teams beat the Brewers lol

Edit: to be clear, I’m not commenting on the lineup today or any players. Strictly speaking about the season series against the Brewers and the central standings.

  7. Yet another quality start from Imanaga where we couldn’t give him the help he deserved. 7 innings of 2 run ball. Man.. kinda feels like we’re the Padres behind Yu Darvish from a couple years ago.

  8. 3 out of 5 ain’t bad against the current best team in MLB, weather’s heating up here in SoCal so I hope that won’t affect them this weekend.

  9. 3/5 is good. We can beat these chumps. But tuck needs to be batting 7th. Also pretty inexcusable that 2 of our hottest hitters atm weren’t in the lineup.

  10. I hoped for 3 of 5 and got it. That seemed like a long shot after Monday’s game, so I don’t wanna be ungrateful.

STILL, this felt like a very winnable game. I didn’t love the lineup, but let’s be real, this team is still gonna be in trouble if they aren’t getting anything from Seiya, PCA, and Tucker the rest of the way.

  11. CC overthought the lineup today. Keep the lighting in the lineup for at least the last brewers game.

Could have given Tucker one more day and a chance to get right vs angels pitching. Now he’s going back on the road with another 0 for.

  12. You gotta respect them for the scientific method here. Hypothesis – lineup better without Tucker. Test – BIG L with him in Monday, test – HUGE W’s with him out Tu/W, just to be sure – check again, super disappointing L with him in Th.

Hypothesis proven – lineup worse with Tucker.

  13. Who was the driving force behind our last three win? Shaw and Cassie? Let’s sit those fuckers.

  14. I dont even mind playing tucker today but he shouldnt have been batting 2nd and we shouldnt have benched Caissie to do it. That is what is really irritating about all of this. Now he walks up and has another shit game all around and if there was some sort of “mental reset” that reset is gone. Hoping its one game closer to him figuring it out but dude that was just awful decision making full stop. Go all platoon against Priester dont half ass it.

  15. A chance to take 4 out of 5 from the division leaders and CC sat ONKC and the hottest hitter on this team currently in Shaw. Tucker and Happ should not have been in the lineup today, especially Tucker.

  16. 13 baserunners, 1 run. The offensive woes continue. Shota was great after a shaky start.

Pretty happy to get 3 out of 5 but this offense is far from fixed.

Hopefully they can take at least 2 in Anaheim and stay on top of the wildcard race.

  17. What will happen first, Tucker hitting a HR, or people in this subreddit correctly spelling “Counsell”?

  18. I had a feeling we would lose this after hearing Tucker would play. No way it magically took 2 games for him to get out of it, especially when he’s nursing an injury

  19. That 7th inning stretch today was very classy and appreciated.

Much love – and thank you for that. Uecker’s Day of Remembrance is this Sunday at AmFam and this leading up to it was amazing.

(Fun fact Ilene Graf who played his wife on Mr Belvedere is signing the National Athem)

Cheers – and sorry for being in the post game thread, but figured this was okay.
