I still believe

  1. We wouldn’t play all 5 games as the away team in the playoffs. If we hosted this series, I bet we’d have won three of them

  2. It’s baseball, can’t read too much into any single series. Look at the Dodgers, swept San Diego then lost 2 of 3 to the Rockies (though it looks like they’ll get a split, based on the score now).

  3. I don’t think we throw Chad Patrick into a playoff series….no offense to Chad Patrick. Supposed to be double header that moved to a double header the next day…5 game road series…in the middle of a 19 games in 20 day stretch. Nothing typical about any of this

Edit: 19 games in 18 days

  4. no Chourio or Hoskins, pitched Chad Patrick, Miz had a bad outing, all games on the road…

  5. We outscored them 17-11 in a 5 game road series in 4 days. Also the Cubs are really good. We’re fine

  6. Baseball works this way. Streak, bit of coolness, mediocre pitching / hot hitting, great pitching / poor hitting. Lot of baseball to be had and this is a long stretch.

We played every game and came up close and this is why I think we are a playoff team. There’s no quit.

  7. Good time for a wake up call for a young team. We just need to get healthy over the next month.

  8. Doesn’t playing a good team on the road really closely in all 5 games kind of mean we are, in fact, built for the playoffs?

  9. It’s one series, this was always going to be a tough stretch of games. That’s why the hot streak was so nice, it helps cushion some losses we are going to take now.

I was hoping for 3-2, fine with 2-3. This series could have been very different imo if the double header happened Monday. Brewers were a lot more prepared for playing another game than the cubs were. Weather lucked out again for them.

It’s not like they got outclassed either, each game they lost was close. I’m more concerned about the rotation getting pounced on, Peralta was the only one that gave any kind of length.

  10. Brewers will crash out in NLCS. It will be devastating yet again to the Wallbanging Faithful. Sausages will droop, Ueckers’ ghost will spin in his grave, and Attanasio will go back to stealing sand.

  11. That Monday night rainout was a blessing to the Cubs.

The Cubs are good. They got to play 5 at HOME. Got blown out once and the rest were close games.

    Ain’t sweatin’ it.

  12. If you actually feel this way about the team you are probably over invested and need to go outside. Stop posting on Brewers reddit every 5 minutes.

I’ve not felt any different about this team during this stretch, this is the team of destiny people

  13. Brewers are fine. They’ve just been getting pretty unlucky on balls in play. They had batted balls in play in yesterday’s game with the following expected batting averages (xBA) that all went for outs:

    .960
    .790
    .730
    .580
    .430
    .430

That’s baseball. And the Cubs were on the other side of it getting some very lucky hits. It happens.

  14. Are you guys that mentally weak? A 4-4 road trip after a 26-4 stretch and you’re afraid about the playoffs? Good grief

  15. The rain out on Monday night was definitely a factor. I firmly believe we’d have taken gm 2 if it was that night since we had the momentum coming off a shut-out win

  16. Cuck the Fubs and just keep them in our rearview mirror. That 4 game series they have in September at Cincy should be a battle.

  17. Jesus we are fine lol we took 2-3 from them in Wrigley after we came down off a 13 game streak. We also were competitive in all games

  18. 2 wins in a 5 games road series against a playoff contender is fine. And two of those losses could easily have gone the other way.

  19. They’re still seven games back. All that, and they gained a game on us. The rough equivalent of us holding steady. Playoffs will be far different conditions, also.

  20. We took 2 of 5 on the road against a tough team. If we take care of business any playoff series we would be the home team.

  21. Cubs fan here. You’ll be fine. Nothing to hang heads about with this series.

In playoffs, you have strong pitching, strong defense, strong baserunning….strong fundamentals and those don’t slump. Just a matter of getting enough timely hits.

  22. This is exactly what I was talking about in another thread. We are fresh off a 14 game win streak. 2-3 on the road against a team with one of the better records in the NL isn’t some doom and gloom situation. We were bound for a cold streak and this cold streak isn’t even that cold yet. We had some very unlucky batted ball luck yesterday. We had like 5-6 outs that had an expected batting average over .500. That stuff happens in baseball. During the win streak, we scored plenty of runs on balls with pretty low expected averages. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

Anyone reading into us going 2-3 in a 5 game series against our rivals but ignoring going 6-0 against the dodgers is why it’s so hard to be in the threads sometimes. We have 34 games to play and have a 7 game lead in the division and a 5.5 game lead for the 1 seed. That’s a really good spot to be in.

  23. I am normally NOT an advocate for resting before the playoffs. Across all sports how many times have we seen a team lock up their spot early, rest players, then get absolutely clobbered in the first round. Rusty or rested they say. Having said that, I am for whatever reason hoping the Brewers stretch out a six or seven game lead over the second seed. Play half assed the final week and chill at home watching the first round. Idk I feel like Murphy can handle players downtime while still keeping them focused. No real reason I guess that’s just my gut feeling with this team.

  24. It will be totally different.

You let the vets (Woody, Peralta, Quintana) and Priester start. You stick to those four to start games then go straight to the bullpen whenever you need to. Fully utilize all those arms. Throwing in someone like Patrick or especially Miz to eat up one or two/possibly more innings in relief if they need to. Ride the hot hand.

We are in the middle a 20 game in 19 day stretch. We are in the opposite situation trying to preserve arms right now for the long haul.

I had this thought after getting shook by “damn we just lost 3/5 in a head to head but we will be carrying a different stance come October with how we’re handling pitchers.

Not to mention there will be home days with a day off in the middle of the series. Assuming we won’t play the Wild Card and hopefully be the highest seed and therefore home field advantage.

All that to be said I’m not too worried about the playoffs from this series. At least not anymore than I would be otherwise.
