If he wants to win and have a chance at a cup in NY , he has to take a team friendly 7-8 m / year , if not , see what we can get at trade deadline. I dont see this team making the playoffs, unfortuantely… so he would need to go to open cap space.
My opinion is wait to see where we are at TD , if we're on the outside looking in and he can be moved for solid young guys i guess its gotta be done .
The Rangers need to handle the Panarin situation just like the Leafs dealt with Tavares. Does Panarin want to stay in NY? If he does he has to take a discount. Ten million+ is definitely out of the question. Yes, he is an elite player–in the regular season, but not in the playoffs where the going is too tough for him. Rangers goal is the Stanley Cup, not the President's trophy. Let's face it, Panarin is defensively irresponsible. We have a glut of left wingers, so he is not essential. A wait & see strategy is in order.
Normally, I would say move him at the TD. Because I think we are on the bubble for sure. However, there are very few guys who can laser the puck like him. So pay him, but we can't do 6 or 7 years term anymore. Those long term deals are like a albatross around the neck. If Mika gets moved then we could keep him and still add free agents. 🏒
Is this news though? Some say he will want premium dollars to resign …. unless this info comes from his agent, Panarin himself or some inside source with the Rangers, I'm skeptical. This isn't news, it's pure speculation; there's a difference between the two.
3 years @ $10M would be interesting … and yes, he'll still be a 90-100+ point player during the regular season, but that's the problem. His playoff performance is not that of an elite player. Whether that's all on him or is in part on his linemates as well is a question. Also, that type of contract puts us out of the market for any of the BIG potential UFAs, so although it may be a reasonable contract for both term and cap hit, it might not be the best. I would wait and re-evaluate come the trade deadline. I mean all the points are great, but we need more out of him … I would also demand that he shave his head if he resigns. lol
If he takes 8-9 mil per for 3 years sign him.
Sorry, after his playoff performances, he needs to sign for less per year. Pay him based on past performances!
Fire Chris Drury they didn't do shit
Panarin sucks
The Rangers are going to need a lot of money in two years to resign their savior Matt Rempe!!!
