I’m amused that people second guess the manager of a team that is 19 games over .500…..but that’s just me I guess.
The point of getting better bench players is supposed to be to enable resting regulars regularly and being able to pinch-hit more mid-game.
Counsell’s instead using it to limit rookies’ playing time.
Ok let me play optimist 4D chess grandmaster Counsell. Medreos has a 5.54 ERA over 13IP pitched this season. Happ, Suzuki, PCA and Tucker have been hurting since the all star break. Maybe he lets these guys feast tonight to get their confidence back up, and have Shaw and Caissie sit.
We probably see Shaw and Caissie in tomorrow then head out to SF for a tough 3 game series, and then easy series against the Rockies. Then head back home Sep 1 for a homestand and hopefully the big 4 are all straightened out for October baseball.

As a Redditor with no access to any information outside of publicly available stat pages, I can confidently say there is zero plan at work for rookie matchups and usage down the stretch and that Craig Counsell actually hates winning at baseball.
Being essentially tied for 3rd best record in baseball with this roster and despite career worst slumps from our best players is a great indicator of this
