I believe that’s what the Dodgers did for Vin Scully. I like it.
gonna be hard to watch or listen to games now that they’ve retired all the microphones
Love it. The “50 years in baseball” sign sold him short, which is pretty crazy haha
I kinda figured that was the route they’d take but it is a big improvement. I can’t think of a better way to honor him
Saw it covered when I was at Friday’s game. I thought maybe they were retiring his number, but then realized he wore 8 with the Braves in Milwaukee, and of course Braun wore 8 with the Brewers.
i’m gonna cry so much today
Maybe this just sounds better than it would actually look, but it would be neat if they had written his name using 1-2 letters from each font that the team had used throughout his tenure as broadcaster. On that note, I think they should update the plaques of the other retired numbers to the word/number font that was used when that player played. Just looks odd to have Molitor’s name and number in the 2000s font.
Nitpicky note in case some don’t know: It wasn’t a retired number before, it was “50 years in baseball”.
Some did think they might retire a number for him. I think he would have been worthy of that level of honor, but also I get why it maybe doesn’t make sense, since he was not being honored for impact as a player.
I’m on a 3 hour drive so can’t watch the ceremony, will it be available to watch later? Anyone know?
You beat me lol. Here is a more zoomed in pick I took.
I can’t even think of words. I just miss him so much. I don’t even usually feel emotions for celebrities I didn’t know on a personal level.
But Ueck was a part of summer for my whole life until now. I think we all just got to know him so well through his stories and candidness.
He’s like every Brewers fan’s favorite uncle. He’s Mr. Baseball!
The number 50 was really retired. JB Bukauskus wore it last year.
Beautiful
Gd the 50 years thing was just odd at this point. I never considered that a retired number
Yup
Timeless. You don’t need a number.
I know they’re selling pins of the retired numbers…I wonder if they’ll sell that one as well.
It wasn’t a retired number. That original sign was celebrating his 50 years as a Milwaukee Brewers Broadcaster. Since he eclipsed the 50 years – they replaced it with the microphone to immortalize his contributions to the organization.
