That was gloriously written tongue in cheek. I’m a D.C. area native and the Pirates became my team because my parents immigrated to Pittsburgh, so it’s what I grew up with. I loved watching the Pirates with my dad. I was integrated in the early 90s, so things weren’t bad. I continue to be optimistic because I’ve grown to love the city and the team. Now I’m 42 and have kids of my own, and they are Pirates fans. We go see a game once a year, either here or in Pittsburgh, and they are yet to see a loss in person. They think they are the best team ever. I’m starting to think we need to travel with the Bucs, and we will have a 162-0 record, but Nutting wouldn’t pay for that.
The Onion should do a piece about how every Pirates fan born in 1982 writes his life story about being a suffering lifelong fan every chance he gets despite watching maybe a total of 5 games in the last 10 years.
