14. The thing is you guys are looking at this from the perspective of the quarterback competition. Stefanski is running a team. He’s not going to change the entire way they conduct preseason for a competition between the #3 and #4 (potentially 2 and 3) quarterbacks

    They have decisions to make about which of those guys will get cut, which will end up on the practice squad, which ones will be brought back

    The competition for the backup quarterback was not his primary goal, and the preseason game is only a small portion of what the coaching staff will take into account in the competition

Those guys out there were not focused on their assignments, so the QB should be able to instill confidence in that group who had taken the field with him. QB evaluation has a lot to do with leadership and not having a stacked deck, so one guy gets to look better than the other.
