Hey all,
I was curious to see what MLB teams' records would be if Bananaball scoring was used as opposed to traditional MLB scoring. I am looking into data science as a possible career and thought that this would be a suitable first project to get started on to see if I would enjoy it. I got the inning logs for each game from Retrosheet and then calculated how many points each team would have to see if they had won or lost. Then calculated the records for each team and then put them into the standings. I also compared them to see how different they would be from the MLB records. If you want the link to the actual spreadsheet, you can DM me and I will give it to you. Responses to this are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have time stamps for the start of each inning? You could account for the rule that prevents new innings starting after 1:50

You get points from me because this must have taken forever to do.
White Sox still suck lol
what is banaball scoring?
Here I was thinking this was Savannah bananas scoring
Interesting.
It shows that my Detroit Tigers benefited from the one big inning more often.
It also seems to show that Banana Ball scoring incentivizes a team to score consistently throughout the game rather than put up a crooked inning and sit on the lead. A team can’t win an inning if they aren’t pushing runs across.
How do you account for foul balls caught by fans? That’s an out in Banana Ball.
Royals…small ball specialists…makes sense they’re a little better in the banana system.
